- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28KotOR 2's dismal final stages are a crime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24hell yeah, what a dissapointing ending to what could have been one of the best adventure games of all time
I'm also going to disagree with Super Mario, and say Super Mario Bros 2 had a far worse ending (was all just a dream!) - Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Seinfeld: The Video Game.
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21YEAH, BRING IT ON SUCKA! THIS MY KIND OF *****!
- trevorsm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19The game was called Link's *Awakening*... I mean, it was kind of obvious that it was all a dream from the start.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20You can't have a twist to a plot that doesn't exist.
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy isn't even in there.
WTF was that?
They'd worked so well on creating a good storyline, then they pissed it up the wall with Mayan prophecies and superpowers. - tdhurst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Damnit, You ruined it for me! I still haven't finished SMB2!
- MrChocolate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Isn't that the point?
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16What's better is to watch some yourself.

Check out MDK's ending. Reminds me of a fever dream. - Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Well, that's, just, like, your opinion, man.
Some people may, uhh, *****' hold that worst is, like, an objective term.
***** nihilists. - DiscoLando, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I think the best game ending of all time has to be World of Warcraft... after all those countless hours spent playing, the ending was far and away better than I could have ever thought. If you've never beaten WoW, I suggest you take the time to do so!
- tapo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Gears of War. UGH.
Fantastic game but a terrible ending. I wanted to fight something huge, not shoot RAAM a few times. I wanted there to be some sort of resolution or twist to the plot, not "Lightmass bomb finally explodes"
I did NOT want to hear "The Cole Train" rapping for five minutes. - attractivetb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@ Achalemoipas
So, to summarize - you rented the game. Made it to the last level - LOVED IT. Then read some internet spoilers about the ending and stopped playing?
This sounds ridiculous. - heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Pong. Absolute worst ending to a game ever.
- TheThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Actually, it did end fighting an ape with a hammer. The brutes in the game were ape-like and the leader carried a powerful hammer.
- RedStateRetard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
The gameplay was great but when you finally "beat" the final guy. All you get are a bunch of cuts-scenes for the "next" game.
I was waiting for the coin-op like screen "please insert $39.99 to continue" - LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I didn't think the ending of MGS2 was so bad... but it was anti-climactic. That was just the very nature of the story that Kojima was trying to tell that time. At the end, there's many questions left unanswered (at least until MGS4 of course) and you're supposed to be left feeling like Raiden... a little lost, not sure what to do next with your life because you didn't achieve a clear cut victory.
I understand if people got really turned off by this ending though... however, I honestly think that the next game in the series, MGS3, has one of the most satisfying game endings of all time... It finishes with a satisfying feeling that you've given the bad guys a big beat down, but at the same time, it's emotional, it's sad, and epic. The final Boss battle is too much for words to describe in terms of beauty and scope. - grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That was among the best endings in video game history.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Good god, I already know the answer to this one. 1942 for the NES. "CONGRATULATION" in white text on a black screen is your reward for fighting through 100+ impossibly hard levels. But I'll RTFA now and see which one they actually picked.
- EatingPie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Halo 2 is one of the most misunderstood game endings in history. It was pretty much universally reviled, even though it was obviously a cliff-hanger, a set up for the next installment... and it did a great job. The story struck me as so well thought out, in fact, I considered the movie idea totally redundant.
So far, the Covenant is the Universe's biggest Suicide Cult, and we don't know why. Nor do we know why they were on earth... though I'm pretty sure it's because they were Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In terms of gameply, however, he is right. But the Halo 1 Race Against the Clock is probably the best gameplay endings ever done, so there's no way Bungie could have topped that!
-Pie - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You've beat Episode Two? Amazing, considering the game isn't out yet.
- DaveTheBrave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I nominate Aladdin on SNES.
After playing for several days trying to get all the red gems thinking I'd get an alternate ending or something special, the only difference was that instead of it saying "You are GREAT player!" it said, "You are SUPER player".
Woo. - Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You're too bad enough dudes for medals.
- apescissors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The ending for Quake on the PC:
CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DONE! YOU HAVE
BEATEN THE HIDEOUS SHUB-NIGGURATH, AND
HER HUNDREDS OF UGLY CHANGELINGS AND
MONSTERS. YOU HAVE PROVEN THAT YOUR
SKILL AND YOUR CUNNING ARE GREATER THAN
ALL THE POWERS OF QUAKE. YOU ARE THE
MASTER NOW. ID SOFTWARE SALUTES YOU.
I could have cried. With all that fancy new 3d stuff all they did for the ending was fill the screen with text. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The worst ending I've ever played has to probably by NFS:Carbon. I was expecting some amazing race or chase like in Most Wanted, but nooo...it was just another race. I didn't get to have his car in career mode! The game was very disappointing, at least compared to Most Wanted.
- Mb246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8 Ghost and Goblins for the NES anyone? First off you have to go through the game TWICE, then when you do that it rewards you by saying, "You get the happy ending!". Its one of the hardest games too.
- payndz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9MGS2's ending was severely flawed because it took the theme of reminding the player that this is only a game (which runs through all the MGS games) to a ridiculous extent. Raiden and Solidus are about to face off in a battle to the death when...
...you have to sit through a 20-minute codec conversation discussing the nature of free will?!?
There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's hanging it by the neck until dead. What's Solidus doing this whole time while Raiden's standing there with his finger to his ear? Polishing his Doc Ock tentacles?
And then you win the rather anticlimactic battle, and the sun comes out, and happy people stroll through the streets of New York while Raiden's reunited with his girlfriend. Ignoring the fact that a ***** huge floating nuclear platform has just demolished half of Lower Manhattan.
MGS and MGS3 had their share of philosobabble, but at least they backed it up with rewarding gameplay. MGS2, on the other hand, was like being trapped in an elevator with 20 pretentious philosophy students, each of whom has a different opinion on the meaning of existence. And damn it, they're going to make you listen to *every single word* they have to say on the subject. - synae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@tdhurst
I think there's a statute of limitations on video game spoilers...something like 15 years?
;-] - HAKdragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You bought a game based on a television show and expected it to be good? I think you learned a 50 lesson that most of us were already aware of.
- Arcadian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Did you not see this coming?
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Okay, looks like the folks who made this list were born in 1988. Only one NES game, and one that had a decent ending where you finally saw the princess, had level select capability, and got to play the game again with little goombahs upgraded to.... those armored thingys.
Very stupid top 10 list, but then again, what top 10 list is good? - ragekaje, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The Path of Neo, anyone?
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8http://prettycake.ytmnd.com/
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17MGS2 does NOT have a bad ending. The storyline is fantastic. Maybe if you're a moron, and don't understand the complexity of it...
Upon further investigation, this list sucks. At least 2 good games on there with good endings.
Burried for inaccurate. - zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Original Doom.
Jump in that trapdoor and be wiped out....that was pants..... - ShadySpace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Anyone else notice how dated the writing style used is here? Didn't complaining about MGS2's confusing plot and references to being attacked by "rabid Nintendo fanboys" die out a while ago? Yeah, and in Prince of Persia your character slid around like he was on ice! Comedy gold.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Neverwinter Nights 2 wasn't a very good ending. For the final ending, they switched from Animated to stills for the cutscenes, and the voice over guy sucked for the last few, it couldn't have been the same guy they used in the beginning.
Don't get me wrong, fantastic game...but the ending...... :( - quanta88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I recalled that when you beat 1941 (the vertical scrolling WWII fighterplane shooter), the ending was just the word "CONGRATULATION!" Yes, that's right, not "Congratulations". Not only is your ending just one word, it's mispelled. >:(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6myst really depends on which ending you take, same for riven
- Neem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah that list was lacking in both depth of reason ( for the disappointing ending ) and actual bad endings... a much better list with a lot more to say about them can be compiled with a little more research, or just asking around the office.
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Found another site, but it's very slow.
http://www.game-endings.co.uk/ - dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Jurassic Park for SNES. despite giving you no clue on what to accomplish or almost no direction, the ending is just the introduction in reverse.
- Malcx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5>>the endings to text adventure games on old 8bit platforms like the ZX spectrum
If you could even get the thing to load: http://www.rtapeloadingerror.com - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Even the lead designer behind Indigo Prophecy was disappointed with the ending.
Read a very in-depth and fascinating post-release interview here - http://gamasutra.com/features/20060620/cage_01.shtml - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Super Mario Bros was just added to take a jab at Nintendo and they think they're edgy for doing it. Seriously, most early NES games didn't do much better with endings back then. Games were about the game, not the ending. Most kids back then didn't even know there were an ending. How about a game like Ice Climbers, Wrecking Crew, Donkey Kong or Balloon Fight where the "ending" just starts you back at stage 1?
- TH3W1R3D, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8***** list.
- vaxguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's apparently because a lot of content was cut out cos the developers were being rushed by Lucasarts to get the game out in time for a holiday release. A group of people are however working on restoring some of that lost content as it was included on the game cd.
Here's a link to the project site: http://www.team-gizka.org/ - Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4WTF are you talking about?, you get cool music, see the ship get beamed into a mother ship, then it zooms off into the horizon. It's a pretty damn good ending IMHO.
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I disagree with their views on the end of Mario. You see SMB1 didn't need a big ending. I didn't need someone to come over to my house to jack me off for beating the game. The game was so hard, beating it was a reward within its self. Now in the world of save anywhere at any time for any reason video games, it's no longer a question of will I beat the game, it's a question of when. And it takes so long that they might just need to reward me with a porno at the end.
