http://www.wirelesssensorbar.com/images/wireless-wii-censor-title.jpg - crcurran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Two good reasons for getting this: Projector and cat.
My cat is going to see that sensor bar's micro filament cable someday and slice right through it just by looking at it. It's that f'n thin (and she is just that viscious)
The projector is ceiling mounted 13 feet away. If I hook up my new component cables for the wii then how do I get the sensor bar to just below the screen? long comonent cables? Alternative sensor bar? Candles aren't cool for the long term and they slowly put soot in the air. I need a battery or just something I can plug the sensor bar into that gives power.
Maybe I should just go over to make.com and find that artixle on making my own wii sensor bar. - velvet396, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I don't need the sensor bar to be wireless, but a stronger IR signal would be nice for those of us with larger TV's that sit back over the 8 foot range Nintendo (and this wireless bar) specifies.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Can't you just boost the sensitivity? My wiimote actually picks up xmas lights from well over 8 feet with the sensitivity cranked up....
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16It's a Logo 2.0
Gradients, reflections, radiant circles
It has all the characteristics of crap... - Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19WII COMPATIBLE!
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm just glad they let me know it was wii compatible. I was starting to wonder if it would be and it would have kept me up at night if they hadn't said so, over and over and over again...
I was thinking of buying one till I saw how many times they put "Wii Compatible" on their site.. I'm sorry but I don't fund stupid.
I'll wait for the madcatz version. - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Yep, I had the same problem until i cranked up the sensitivity to 3, now i can play from my couch, over 10 ft away
- tolldog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Or you can make your own like my friend did:
http://www.kevinvassey.com/wiiwiring
Wires are all fine and good until your wii is far from the top of the TV or you have a cat (as in my friends case). - ryodoan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I personally could make one of these for less than $5, for people lacking the wide array of electric junk I have, it could easily be done for less than $10.
For a company making them in mass quantities, I would go even lower to less than a dollar a sensor bar, they are making an insane profit off these selling them for $24.99 plus shipping.
Not that it is a bad thing to make money, gotta make it somehow. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Skip the blog and his useless opinion, and just go to the real site:
http://www.wirelesssensorbar.com/ - DatoeDakari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6One of the benefits is 'No more tripping over the cord!'. Wtf, who is walking in between the system and the tv, and if so, what about the others cords??
Not putting it down, I'm all for wireless, I just though I'd ask that question. - Linh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6because candles aren't practical.
- Rooker156, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5seems like alot of people are complaining about their cats slicing wires for the hell of it. simple solution, get rid of your cat.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The wire on the sensor bar is thin, and if you take your console to friends' houses, you don't always get a chance to tuck the wire away. It's seems easy to snap.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If it wasn't so damn ugly it might be worth checking out
- wolrah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5>If I hook up my new component cables for the wii then how do I get the sensor bar to just below the screen? long comonent cables?
You have a projector, but no A/V switching system? Receiver plugs in to projector, everything else (Wii included) plugs in to receiver.
Obviously that still doesn't solve the distance-to-screen issue, but the idea of plugging a console straight in to the projector just boggled my mind.
I solved this problem with a pack of resistors, 4 IR LEDs, a piece of spare PVC pipe, and an old cell phone power supply. Total cost around $7, total time around 30 minutes, and it works perfectly. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like ass. How hard is it to make a slim, rectangular, black bar like Nintento's, add batteries, and put a tiny switch on the side? Obviously very.
- Goosey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Two very good uses. It kind of startled me when the author in the article comes off so venomous as if it was an insult that such a product was ever created.
I enjoy Destroid's articles often, but when you read something so needlessly and aimlessly angry and aggressive.. It is kind of a put off. - BuddhaManFizz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7actually, your an idiot, you can use candles instead of a sensor bar
thanks for comin' out though - CrazyForSW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks terrible, and it still has the same range of the Wii sensor bar. They should put in more IR lights for better range.
My Destructoid complaints continue: This guy says he doesn't understand the purpose of a wireless sensor bar. All it takes is a little thinking, and he answers his own question (partly) later in the post. I can't stand dumb news posts like these. - tolldog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@pathdaemon
My friend describes it "three prong, like a peace symbol".
Hope that helps. - gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"actually, your an idiot"
His an idiot?
Actually... I wouldn't say 'you're an idiot'. But you need to learn the difference between "your" and "you're". - BuddhaManFizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You mean "he's an idiot"? And, for that matter, periods go inside of quotation marks.
- YoHenYo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dont understand why people are having trouble with the thin cable. Just hook up the sensor bar and dont leave wires hanging around, and should be fine.
That may just be my obsessive "i hate tangled wires" compulsive disorder talking. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome... by the way, can someone post a picture of those screws? I want to see if it's something odd and Japanese or just a torx.
- walkingcrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a very detailed video on How to make your own Wireless Sensor Bar with an on/off switch http://www.wiihacking101.com/node/9
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is easy to make your own Battery powered sensor bar, or better yet A/C plugged sensor bar WITHOUT cutting any wires:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9102614#post9102614
6 volts works perfectly, without the sensor bar overheating. You can use 4 D, C, AA, or AAA batteries for this, or a 9v though it will run hotter.
I didn't want to mess with batteries, so I used an A/C to 6v transformer instead. You can get these anywhere. - burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could mount your Wii right next to the projector and then run the wire across the ceiling to the top of the screen.
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:( My max is about 8 feet with the sensitivity all the way up. I'm thinking theres too much ambient light in the room I'm playing, but I would definately love to see a more powerful sensor bar.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds vaguely familiar. Thanks, tolldog.
- SteveChisnall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I want to see is a USB sensor bar that can hook onto the top of a laptop screen or be used to turn the Wiimote into a wireless mouse/controller for a computer when giving a business presentation. The Wiimote uses bluetooth and has buttons and everything a presenter could want in a clicker for giving a speech and controlling a slideshow. If a USB sensor bar could be made available, Nintendo could market the Wiimote as a computer input device too!
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a rabbit. I have cats. Both are notorious in this household for chewing on or slashing wires. The fewer wires, the better it is for me when I don't have to worry about waking up in the morning and finding that something else is damaged.
- tolldog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This happened to my friend as well (the cat) as is mentioned in my post below. Instead of replacing, he decided to rebuild it as a wireless one. You can see below for a writeup on how to .
His cat will chew at about anything. - cvh™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1true... but they can be very pimp.
- cvh™, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2why is he getting dugg down if that is the truth?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wByP5QfZcOU&mode=related&search= - Darkrazor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I really hate wireless, wireless almost always mean buy batteries, batteries cost money, money is time!
Stop wasting my time with the wireless crap third party companies!
~Nice find though! - Technopope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How about portability?
Want to take your Wii to a friend's house, but don't want to remove the Nintendo sensor bar from your TV? How many time will that double sided tape hold?
An extra, wireless sensor bar is just the thing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4That is the only thing keeping me from getting a Wii. I don't want to have to mac gyuver up some sort of sensor bar hack so I can use my potential wii with my projector!
- fiestaninja16, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7why not relive the good ol' days and just play by candlelight?
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10yeah, the good old days when people played video games by candlelight. You're an idiot.
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Why are the LEDs so off centered?
- SineNomen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, it isn't that hard to make your own, all you need is a battery, a switch and the proper LEDs.
The Wii sensor bar has 4 on each side, just remove two and use those (yes, two LEDs are good enough) to keep your wired bar, and make you own wireless one. - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Darn I had this idea weeks ago... i should have made these and sold them myself!
Guess I missed that opertunety... XD - earobinson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the point is moot, if you zoom in on the image from google you get the yahoo logo
- Morsetlis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Your "solution" is "inefficient," as we scientists call it.
- lordg100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yo that's cool man!
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Maybe I should just go over to make.com and find that artixle on making my own wii sensor bar."
... or get rid of your cat... - Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9would be great for my projector. Right now me and my cousin have 2 Wii's in our apartment are using one Wii to power the sensor bar while playing on the other. It works but its a bit of over kill this would free up one Wii.
