I've been missing out! - agdtinman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+72OMG, in the past nintendo made a wired remote control!
Sorry, but I've had those things for about 15 years now. In fact, there have been remote controls that have looked like that since the 80s. - Innagadadavida, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Nintendo has always made weird looking controllers. Remember looking at the N64 controller for the first time? "OMG! THREE HANDLES!? WTF!?".
- altosaxon, on 10/12/2007, -15/+44Oh No! It looks like Sony is working on making their own version of the Wii also!
Could be trouble for Nintendo...

- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I can only assume that the poster here has never flewn on an airliner. Complete bollocks, it has nothing to do with a wiimote and is a below average looking wired remote control.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Yeah, that is just what controllers on airplanes look like. When I first saw the Wii controller I thought "hey, slap a credit card reader on the side of that thing and you can put it on a plane." Unfortunately, I don't think the Wii will be very playable on an airplane or in a car . . . it might cause your excite truck to undergo some pretty serious turbulence.
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Who would have known that there weren't color photographs just 13 years ago...
I've yet to see a conspiracy photograph in color. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Heh heh - "flewn." I'm no spelling nazi, I just think that small mistake is a funny one. Flewn!
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yes!
- emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11@Innagadadavida
3 handles FTW... still the best controller design made IMO. - elined, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4this isn't exactly news....anyone who has travelled internationally in the past 15 years will have seen this. Standard games include Super Mario World and F-Zero, among others.
- Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5this is pretty damn lame... A controller in the shape of a rectangle, held vertically is NOT the same thing as a wii-mote...
- pmpc00, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Take an international flight just about anywhere, and you'll have this build into your arm-rest, they've been around for years..
- mechayakuza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Question: does adding an exclamation mark to a headline somehow make the story more incredible or amazing!!!
- wisebob134, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so has sony Their Sixaxis or w/e controller was an old third party controller remade and the old one had rumble
- Trams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it cool that it's a throwback. It's very smart to revisit old ideas and make them new (as long as they are your own ideas of course).
- robche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they have had a similar 'controller' on singapore airlines for years
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I played one one of those on Air Malasia.

Edit: Hmm, it wasnt working for me a second ago. Site seems to be working now. - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just because it's a rectangle and it's by Nintendo doesn't mean it's a damn Wii-mote.
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh my god!
It's a rectangle! - Sagags, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no thats not true, the Wiimote is modeled after my TV remote, not that one.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1um... ok?
ive played plenty of snes games systems on airlines, like singapore airlines etc...
not that time angry, but why is this news? - Valnar300, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That controller reminds me of the current ones used on the Airbus A320
- bassman730, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10If at first you don't succeed...
- gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Total was THE BEST Nintendo magazine. Nothing has come close since in capturing my enthusiasm for gaming. It was a character led magazine, and that s what made it unique. I will always have a place in my heart for early day Total.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol Nintendo submitted a dupe to their console controllers. RTFA Nintendo.
- kevmann16, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I used something very similar to this on a Virgin flight from Manchester to the Us in 94, it was on the back of every chair even in standard class, I played Super Mario and that Unicycle game that was out for the Snes. It was pretty cool made the flight miles better
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I've seen those things on airplanes plenty of times before, they're just cheesy controllers for in-flight games that are designed that way so they can snap into the armrest.
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's called the Power Glove.
- TxCub420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Weakest Digg ever.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1wii love to fly!
- rtilford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i don't think it really matters they could release another console with the n64 control and i would not give a fig!
- BloodyRids, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This just goes to show you the kind of garbage that can make it to front page. All you have to do is add wii, and presto! This is why digg is broken.
- gandalfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thats Gross!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Uh oh, looks like Microsoft isn't the only company that steals ideas! Or maybe all the television companies stole the remote from Nintendo.
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2actually, sonys controller 10 years ago had motion sensing. so no, sony didn't steal it.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1OMG turn the Wimote sideways and it looks like a controller form 1985!
- phoenixp3k, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Color picture did not exist yet. How come it's black and white (yellowish). At least now we have it wireless can't imagine the price it would of been back in 1993
- Goosemaster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2The point is, if it works, why not use it...
I don't know about you people, but I still have two hands, a good controller is a good controller, and if the Wii is based on old technology, it will in no way impact my love for it if I enjoy playing it.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Wii Wii Wi Wii Jeez!
You Wii-brained nuts act like your messiah is about to be born. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3more proof that nintendo loves to milk everything they have to the last drop
- unrealmp3, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Scary :o
- ericeman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Well it shows that Nintendo has done some disigning of remote controls in the past. Just funny how it looks like the wii-mote with it being a remote with Nintendo buttons on it. Sure it's not 'omigosh, the wii mote has been done before' but it's still pretty cool.
- markingtime, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1we already knew that. There's this little company called Sony that steals ideas too.
- 501337, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0OMG a story about Wii. I was wondering what happened when I must've went almost an hour without seeing a front page story about Wii.
- bluemansteele, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I wonder if any other companies will try to infringe on their patent by making a controller that is also a remote!
http://www.playphoria.com/features/indepth/controller-ergonomics/images/controllers-004.jpg - bluemansteele, on 10/12/2007, -32/+6Bury this.
It looks like the Wii-mote because they are both modeled after a "remote".
You could grab a picture of any remote and get the same similarity.
It has a pad and buttons, big surprise, so did the first Nintendo watch games.
