- RMDTech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Technically it's not inaccurate it's just useless for anyone in America. This is great for people in Europe and New Zealand though.

Perhaps you should stop worrying about others' dental hygiene, and lose a bit of weight, eh fatty? - bigdsinferno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12apparently, this doesn't work for the US... we can only switch to countries that are in north or south america... they have less games than we have.
- judremy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15But aren't Europe & New Zealand in the same region? If that is the case, then it is inaccurate because the title says it is for cross-region purchasing.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Is that how easy it is? Can anybody confirm you can, for example, get games from the US and Japan lists in Europe this way? Any troubly between PAL and NTSC?
If it does work and doesn't get "fixed" very soon, then I suppose Nintendo only went with the mostly symbolic region lock for legal purposes and doesn't mind where we get our VC games. =/ - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Apparently this only works if the country you change to uses the same TV standard. I.e. if you have a PAL Wii, you can buy from any other PAL shop. However PAL Wii owners cannot buy games from the US NTSC Wii shop.
- Thrash16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5WOW...now to get to some shopping...
- VitaminK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The TurboGrafx never came out here or in Australia, so we don't get all the games that are available in the UK. The story is accurate, the only way for us to purchase the TG16 games is if we switch regions.
- Ranneko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is fairly cool, pity it is only really workable for the PAL areas, or people in North America who have less VC games available than the US.
I really wish that the Wii Store would accept foreign credit cards though. I have a US Wii, so I can only get at the north american stores, but I cannot use an Australian CC on it, so I have to rely on point cards. - anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It would be nice, but US consoles do not have the option to switch to Japanese so it will not be possible unless someone finds a way to make the US console think it is a Japanese console.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This means we wont be able to download the internet channel when it comes out in Europe :(
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it true the US doesn't have Donkey Kong Country on SNES available (that's what I was told, anyway)? We have it in the UK, so if you're able to cross-buy that, that's surely got to be a contender for top cross-buy purchase ;)
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now we just need to find a way to make an American console think it is a Japanese console...
- rewquio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait to try this. I really hope the don't "fix" the problem. I don't understand why they went with their crazy region locked stuff anyway. It's especially a pain with the VC.
- apu95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, can anybody confirm if US systems can buy Japanese VC games? I really want DKC!
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, Japan uses NTSC-J, which is very much like NTSC except the black levels are darker. So it shouldn't technically be a problem. I would assume you could buy PAL games on an NTSC system and vis versa with the only problem being complete video garbage. or is it just flat out not possible to even buy them?
- apu95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are you sure? I know that I can go into my menu and change my country. Wouldn't that be changing the region?
- Jakotsutou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, thats changing countries. The countries available on US consoles all have the same region code. All the countries we get suck though.
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As of right now, no you cannot buy Japanese VC games, in fact, in America you cannot download any games from any other region. For this trick to work, you need to be able to switch to a different region and the American console does not have the options needed.
- magnakai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't have a Wii, so I haven't tried this, but according to people in the UK who have a US Wii, and are probably in the same boat as you:
"Basically - set your system country to Brazil (reason : Brazil matches card details on post code only - not on country, state, etc... and accepts no numeric characters)
Enter your credit card details in the card charge screen, enter you UK post code, TADA!!! there you go! you now have points!!!"
Hopefully it'll work with Aussie post codes too.
Good luck! - BigNveiny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did this last night. In Australia we don't have any TG16 games in the VC, so I changed my country to UK and got Super Star Soldier and Bomberman.
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1american is NTSC, japanese is NTSC-J, so we can pray it works, but it'll still be in japanese...
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoaOjT_3uZk&NR
Check out the games available in Japan that aren't (yet) available in the USA.
Of interest (to me): Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario World. I'm tempted to go download them, in fact. It's not like the games are text-oriented. - xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -11/+9This is innacurate. The Wii is region coded to our region alone, so you would not be able to get to the UK and such from an american console. I have gone through the list and all of the selectable countries are within our region.
Buried as inaccurate. I would have loved for this to be true, but it isn't. - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Can American consoles download the Japanese web browser?
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7Can't you all just get along? You both suck. Canada is where it's at!
- berwiki, on 10/12/2007, -35/+2Everyone should just set their country to USA then.
since the USA is the Best Ever!!!
seriously though, who would pick UK to check their video game supply?!?!
Clean your teeth you dirty brits!
