- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+73I can invalidate this, its oldish news and they definitely did not crack it. Its merely a dump of a purchased copy of F-ZERO. VC games can be transfered to an sdcard. The encryption for VC games has not been broken yet. The encryption also seems to be console specific.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57Unfortunate?!
If it was true, then we'd see the end of new releases to the Virtual Console.
Or more likely, we'd see a system update to correct the problem. - bohwaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43OK seems this news is false. Sorry for the mislead.
- Dacvak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35I second that. I tried this so-called "hack" and it's simply a couple of smack tards uploading their virtual console save. It's still protected, and cannot be copied onto the Wii.
Unfortunate.
~Dac - NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33OK lets mark this as inaccurate people.
Its our job to keep digg as accurate as possible. - kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25how did this make it to the front page? it is 100% verifiably false...
- motbob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21It's too bad that this front-page story is COMPLETELY FALSE.
- Rummey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Digg is still very niche overall. A story on the frontpage DOES NOT mean a mainstream audience.
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Although it is deemed false, I still want to say it is only a matter of time....
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25You're an idiot if you think that this, if it worked, would end new releases to the VC. I don't think diggers realize how nerdy they are and how niche pirating games is.
- kepsux, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21Can anyone validate this?
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Mark as inaccurate!
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Wow, I can tell this article is inaccurate from just reading the description. Even though you can copy the content.bin file to your PC for that particular game, it is still locked down to the original Wii.
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That doesn't mean people use Pirate Bay, just that they were interested in it.
- rexCo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Buried this as inaccurate
- ungamedplayer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Don't try and guilt me,
I will gladly hack my wii to pay for NES, megadrive and others nd other games which I have and have not paid for. The truth is , that these games made their profit the first round. All we are paying for now is the convenience.
Nintendo will stagger game releases to extract maximum profit from the users of the Wii, dont worry about that. The trick would be to ensure that most users will not be bothered to "pay" money to mess around with hunting down, and installing pirated games, and offer it quicker, faster, better, stronger on the wii channels.
I also write software for a living, so dont give me the "Someone put a lot of time and ...." *****, these games were profitable on their first iteration, everything now is just pure profit.
I also want to write software for others, and would like to not have to "pay" someone to write software for their device, but without "crackers" this would is not possible. - PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Still not marked as inaccurate? Come on!
- nintendomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11>.< STOP DIGGING IT PEOPLE!
- kyl3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10prime example of when to undigg
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10As far as home brew goes id just be happy for a general public dev kit. nothing to fancy just enough to make some neat games for free. even if you only had the coding power of basic. It'd be kinda fun to make your own simple VC games.
- Corynorhinus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It seems that those digging the article and those commenting here are two mutually exclusive groups....
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8People use dig as a social bookmarking site. It'd be nice if there was a read later option. So those wanting to review it later wouldn't be also digging the story as well..
- MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@HCHunter
Do you undigg it after you find out that it's *****? - n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13I buried your dumbass comment as well.
- toast1226, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Also marked as inaccurate
- renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6they should really make a new F-Zero for the wii, it would be KICK ASS on the wiimote
- dan_cameron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6While you can transfer the game to the SD card it does not work.
Inaccurate. - LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What's up with the new digg system, I for one think it can be improved upon. The question is not how this made it to the front page but how did this make it to the front page without an inaccurate tag.
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Meh, I'll pay for them (again) when they actually add features like online play and extra content. Until then, I'll rom to my heart's content on XBMC.
- Ovitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Digg sucks these days. Why can't ***** be buried?
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The "inaccurate" button is broken on digg since version 2.0 or maybe some weeks later. I guess it was to sensitive before, but now it's not enough.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4it takes so many inaccurate marks for it to be actually marked nowadays, sheesh
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Not only can you backup your VC games to SD which only you're console can decode, but that's pointless too. Unlike iTunes and their DRM'd products, Nintendo at least lets you re-download any VC rom you've purchase anytime you want.
iND just buried themselves as worst scene release group ever. - ungamedplayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@TheTaoOfBill
I love it how you mix in multiple questions.. so here we go, i'll type slowly because I'm sure you cant read very fast.
What are you a hippie
> no
or something?!
> yes
Since when is it wrong to make a profit off your own creations
> I dont believe I said it was ?
It's their game.
> yes.
That's their right.
> correct
You can justify it to yourself all you want but stealing is wrong.
> people do wrong things.. all the time. I am one of them, you too ! For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god (Romans 3:23) go on, call me a bible basher, I'm just admitting the truth.
It's more wrong then someone making money off of their own creations.
> Stealing is "more wrong" than someone making their money off their own creations. Yah. I'll have to agree with you there, but i'm glad you have such a fine grained scale of wrongness.
And just because you've convinced yourself otherwise doesn't make it untrue.
> Double negatives such horrible logic, you should get that checked.
The real point of my discussion was in the last point, which I'll re-iterate for you:
--
I also want to write software for others, and would like to not have to "pay" someone to write software for their device (the wii), but without "crackers" this would is not possible.
--- - alexonix, on 10/12/2007, -14/+16niche my ass, every Piratebay story got frontpaged
- bonesbrigade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iND, way to test your releases. I love the fact that the .NFO states how easy and simple it is, as well as the fact that "protection" states that there is none. Did not work, would not download again. Worst release ever.
- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Everyone's fair game. KR can burn 360 games and show you how to do it. HD DVD movies can be ripped, Blu-ray discs can be ripped, and so can Nintendo games. All's fair in love and war.
- freonchill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4id try it - but i cant buy a wii anywhere
- adamnikyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've noticed that too. I can't remember the last time I saw "The Warning" above a headline. I guess digg's user base has really gotten huge, and with it came a lot of tards who either; digg without reading the article, or use digg as a bookmarking site.
It's annoying. - littleblckheart, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4devolver, VC games absolutely can be transferred to an SD card, you do this in Data Management > Channels. The catch is, that it can only be restored to the console on which it was purchased.
- FiZi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Confirmed. I got a copy of this, put it on the SD card, blocked my Wii from the internet (just incase) and the game would not work.
- marcomc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1of course the one game ive really been wanting to play again for the past five years or more is apparently free and running if you have a thumbdrive. but no, of course not, somebody just had to ***** POST THIS ***** UP. thanks baby, i had a real nice time
- DrGamez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6IT DOESN'T WORK.
YOU CAN'T MOVE IT FROM YOUR SD TO THE WII
HOLY ***** DO YOU GUYS JUST SLAM THAT DIGG BUTTON WITHOUT READING OR TRYING ANYTHING? - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is just like downloading music folks. If you're just out to hunt down your entire music/rom collection on Limewire, go ahead. But purchasing VC titles is a great way to compromise. Sure, it's not free, but the price isn't so bad, and it opens the road to more content and interaction between us and the developpers. This won't quell illegal downloads, but as long as it's given a chance, it could prove to be a great middle-ground.
- cwilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Totally agree with you! They've made one on every console since the SNES so I think it's definitely possible. As much as I love playing SNES F-Zero, I loved F-Zero X on the N64. Multiplayer in that game was so much fun!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is digg; most people think video games magically write themselves and no one has to worry about licensing fees and everyoone who had a hand in creating a game is automatically a stinking rich billionaire who "doesn't deserve more money".
Yeah, it sucks that they're trying to squeeze more money out of their intellectual property, but guess what? They're a corporation and that's exactly what capitalism is all about. How is this different from the Beatles selling their music on 8-tracks and vinyl and now selling them on itunes? Stealing is stealing, no matter how you try and justifiy it. - TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good job at finding out what the rest of the site found out within minutes
- blanktarget, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Even if it works seems like a lot of work for a rom I could download in a few minutes.
- Gundam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3More then 99 cents for a 300K file that you haven't made of dime off of in 20 years, how is that NOT greedy? Yes its capitalism, but we can still disagree with he motives. Also, the VC is not an incredible amount of coding itself, there have been so many NES Emulators over the years that are open source that finding examples on how to do it isn't that hard. 20 cents perhaps for the first 500 VC games sold and you have already paid off the programmers, then its pure profit, minus your half cent of bandwidth each sale. No matter how you flip it there is a ridiculous amount of profit in this for Nintendo's execs.
- jetsetter883, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so.. is it really a matter of time before cracking VC encryption becomes possible? i say yes since this stuff ALWAYS seems to win the hearts of dedicated hackers.
