- EscapeArt1st, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30A great read... the fact the console is so accessible to such a wide age group will be a winning factor for this console. Along with the relatively low price, this makes it an ideal birthday or Christmas present from any parent.
- jlgosse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24"Based on estimated prices, Nintendo would have to outsell Sony 3 to 1 in order to equal Sony's profits. I think this is unlikely, but possible. Xbox 360 has a huge headstart, so Microsoft will continue to be the one to beat when the other 2 consoles are released."
WTF? You have no idea what you're talking about. - Tritis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23You poor deluded child. The Nintendo has to sell ONE Wii. ONE and they have made more profit than Sony. Everytime Sony sells a ps3 they will lose money. Nintendo on the other hand will be the only company of the three to actually make any money at all on the console.
What you mean is Sony will GROSS more than nintendo, but the net profit (Actually making money) will all be in nintendo's pocket - handshakedrugs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Sony's profits? I was under the impression that they were selling at a loss and would not make a profit for a number of years.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24The first paragraph makes it seem like only fanboys thought the Revolution would be successful. i beg to differ. like a lot of nintendo fans, i'm FAR from a fanboy, but i also realize that Nintendo has never let me down. I have always enjoyed games on Nintendo-- so when they announce a new console, I give them the benefit of the doubt.
NES: too many great games to list
SNES: same
N64: mario 64, goldeneye, starfox, smash, zelda, etc
GC: smash, metroid primes, zelda, resident evil, etc
gameboys: way too many to mention
seriously, how could anybody really doubt nintendo? they are far more consistent than any other hardware or software company in the industry. - HeyFergy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+223 to 1 in order to equal sony's profits? They are LOSING money on every console sold where-as Nintendo will be making money on their consoles...as they have in the past. Now maybe i'm just confused about what you are saying...but i'm pretty sure that Nintendo is in a much better place (read: making lots of money currently) than Sony and the Wii will only aid that if it does as well as expected.
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The fact that a lot of people will choose this as their sole "next generation" console, and a lot of people will choose the Wii as their second "next-generation" console makes it very likely they will outsell the competition.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Does anyone get the feeling people are writing these articles just so they hit the front page of digg and get crazy hits? Im all for the Wii but come on give me a break, this is getting insane. Not a single one of these front page articles since E3 has had any new information in it.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I do hope that the Wii will win, I think it should and hopefully will, although the name may be too daft for peoples likes. But the name does generate advertising, FREE advertising too. I just hope that they have a wide range of games, unlike the GameCube which seemed to have a majority of games aimed at Kids, giving it a bad rep amongst many gamers. I know the GameCube did have some games aimed at adult, but I think there weren't enough or they came out too late.
- ImpactedColon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13but you do like posting about how you don't like them. Sounds dysfunctional.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13cheap bowing and baseball games?
where the ***** have you been? - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Don't forget the lame handle on the back of it. It had some great games but the system itself looked like a Fischer Price toy of some sort.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9you guys are so passionate about this "console war". If it happens that XBOX or god forbid the evil evil PS3 wins this war I hope you all dont kill yourselves.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The price, or estimated price, is whats making people want to buy it as their second next generation console or even their primary, you really can't say no to that cheap price!
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Ok, while I agree this guy is quite clueless, I do believe 8 replies telling him that is enough. ^^
- wartime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8When a console sells more systems more 3rd parties want to develop for it. So if it sells alot there will be a lot more quality games.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Did you miss the part about them having something like ~30 games on demo at E3?
I can't remember where the article was, or I'd give you the exact number. And to cover my ass, Ill even throw out a safe lower-limit of 12.
And their virtual console will provide hundreds of games, even though they won't be new games. - coonzel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Personally, I think your all 85-90% previous Xbox and Playstation fanboys changed Wii fans. Not neccessarily a bad thing, i think its great, but is it just the controller making you cream the pants? What sells me on the Revolution/Wii is solid quality always to be expected from Nintendo, and trademark characters. Not too long ago, I remember people saying "rehash of gamecube" and "mario is a terrible mascot". Where did these people crawl away to, or are some of these people YOU? Haha, you make me all laugh.
- Opiate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Written for Digg, contains pure speculation marked as lame.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Nintendo are pretty good at marketing their consoles, I think they are onto a winner with the Wii, games like Red Steel will give it a lot of rep.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Furthermore, the article specifically cites the digg audience as an authority at the end. I'd agree. Written for Digg. But, aside from some poor writing, it's an article with a decent point.
- PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I for one think it is too soon to predict anything. Even after the launch of both new consoles, I'll just recommend casual gamers to get themselves a slim line ps2 and have a blast on the bargain titles. This is because the Wii is at its infancy, with very few third party titles announced for it. Hey, if graphics aren't important, last gen's hot titles ought to be good enough, right?
- jlgosse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Also, the big N is going to pull a huge profit from the virtual console. They could probably give away the system for like $100 and then make back their losses on the virtual console and it's download system. Great idea.
- revoked, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11FTWii!
- richiejp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm not sure it has alot to do with the games. I think the idea the console has only a few adult games comes from the consoles appearance, Nintendo even pulled out some pretty good advertiseing to change peoples perception of the console, but they couldn't mask it's "toyish" appearance. The PS2 had plenty of childrens games, alot of which were advertised on the TV, it never did the PS2's image any harm.
- FetalSage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7No no, PS2 is still very much in production. They stopped production of the PS1.
- satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9No, no, this is a good read. The previous 50 articles on the same subject didn't really convey what this article did. I think if sometime during the next 50 articles on the same topic they may just get it perfect.
- drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I will admit that the Revolution would be better than Gamecube, but would be placing 3rd.
However, I'm really glad I was wrong because while I play Xbox non-stop, my heart is all Nintendo and I'm excited about getting this new system - synthetikbmz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I bet they just want to make money, Nintendo IS a company. They're smart enough to see that innovation and giving us something fun to play with will make that happen, though.
- manbergur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7who cares who "wins".. what matters is how much fun it is for the price in my opinion.. ahh whatever.. why do i even relpy to these things
- dolson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm a Nintendo fanboy as much as the next guy, I will be buying a Wii on release day, and I will tell all my friends to buy one, and I will not buy a PS3, and I probably won't buy an Xbox 360, but even *I* am getting sick of seeing so many predictions about who will win the console war this round.
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7To be specific, he refers to us diggers as a "big bunch of nerds". That said, I'm not offended. Overall I think most of his points are right.
- pwnrOiNK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Once again a writer who sees the connection between apple and nintendo.
The should work together defiantly.
Also i like his last note about us diggers !
Great article - padewak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"my favorite \ will be the winner, it will sell the most, na nah na na nah."
1. nobody cares what you think
2. are you a cheerleader or a gamer?
3. pick a console and play, bitch!
that's right, just take off your god damn skirt, drop the pom poms and play your console. I don't care how much you love it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The Wii will be the next console I buy and the last one I bought was a sega ;-)

Remember that just because Nintendo says their games are going to be less then $50 doesn't mean EA and others will follow the same pricing structure. All of Microsoft's first party games are less then $50 (kameo, project gotham, perfect dark ect..) but third party companies all charge 59.99 for their games. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I just want to secure my position as one of the faithful that knew Nintendo would take the lead :)
- count_z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Online doesn't opinions don't equate very well with those of the "real world". If you look at sales figures people perfer console games likes GTA or Madden over something like Zelda. No, there's no accounting for taste but that's what the "average" gamer seems to be into.
So all of the hype about the Wii is meaningless unless it translates into significant sales; the same is true of any console. Remember all of the hyper for the PSP and the proclaimed demise of the DS? On paper the PSP kicked ass, in the real world it only had lousy ports of PS2 games and was next-to-useless as a media player.
It definately has a price advantage going for it and it will likely not have any shortages since they won't have the manufcaturing problems that plague Sony and Microsoft... so we'll see how it does in the fall. - jakebarnett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why is it that whenver someone rips on Nintendo, they talk about how they make games with their franchises and how they have a younger base of fans? Is that a bad thing? I mean, when I play games in the future I want to have games available for my platform of choice that I can play with my family. I don't want the only things available for my console to be games like Gears of War or GTA4. Those are good games, but really only games you're going to sit alone and play. Why is it so bad that Nintendo makes games that can appeal to an entire family? I guess I'm looking forward to Wii because it's something that I will be able to play with my wife and kid.
- socbret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@SqueakyWheel
I'm lmao, but I don't think that was supposed to be funny. - uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Let's see...It's the least expensive of the three top consoles...it offers the most in terms of games (since you can get games from the previous systems), and it has some damn cool features that the other systems don't have. I think it stands a pretty good chance of racing to #1 as far as consoles are concerned.
I haven't been a console fan since the N64 (or was Dreamcast out after?) Regardless, the last system I bought was either an N64 or a Dreamcast, and nothing since. However, I'm already planning to get a Wii, no ifs, ands, or buts. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Follow up on my previous comment,
The following is a list of games announced for the Wii:
http://wii.catalyst-host.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1
I'd count them for you, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 10. - richiejp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6No I think the slim line PS2 could be strong competition for the Wii. It will likely be twice as cheap and it will still have the PlayStation image to back it up. Then again it won't have Wii's power or controller. I mean the Wii is underpowered compared to the "next gen" consoles, but compared to the PS2 it is a beast.
- cyberfelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All you've explained is why people like you or me, who are into the pure tech side of things, buy a 360. The average person might buy a 360, but it seems that they'll be more likely to buy a Wii.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anybody think the developing countries might be important this generation? Places like Africa and Central Asia are probably not going to be seeing too many consoles, but India and China have a growing middle class that just might be getting rich enough to buy consoles any day now. If they do turn out to be significant marketplaces, I imagine the Wii will be the most attractive platform for most.
- cybershoplifter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6A whole bunch of cool games to play (I think 30?) at e3 and seems everybody likes it. More than I can say for Sony's stuff...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10The Wii will be the next console i buy. The last console i bought was the Dreamcast.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I really doubt that the PS2 Slim Line will be a strong competition, I don't think it's worth Sony's time bringing it back int production when they have the PS3, then again I don't have strong hopes for Sony and their PS3 at the moment. If for what ever reason they do the Wii I think will be better because of the controller.
- manbergur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4nintendo is for sure taking cues from apple, which is cool with me.. apple is successful because they know how to make a quality, aesthetically appealing product.. just look at the new DS Lite and the Wii and you can see the similarities in design.. i think nintendo and apple would make for a powerhouse partnership
