- inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12A background app would be better for that. There's really no reason to push something like this into the kernel.
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9On a Laptop maybe, but any mac used with a tv card or with frontrow will appreciate this greatly...
hmmm the urge for a mac mini grows.... - tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why would we need that?
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This guy has no vision. Give it a little while and they'll be some apps that make better use of it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It actually works! Takes two hands to not click-drag everything
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You need two IR sources for tracking to work, so even if you could turn the IR port LED full on (a bad idea) it's not enough for tracking. Use two candles or something. If you talking about communicating with the Wii Remote - it uses Bluetooth for communication, not IR.
- gotwii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think i'll get those IR Leds directly INTO my LCD.
- drewman77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I don't think the Macbook Pro has an IR port that the Wiimote could use. It's a receive only IR eye.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The http://www.wiili.org page seems to have come into some difficulty.
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think GlovePIE has done this for a few days.
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I was thinking of adding code to track four points - one at the center of each edge of the display. The Wii Remote hardware is capable of it, and triangulating an exact screen coordinate wouldn't be hard. Plus, it'd be a lot less sensitive to going off the screen since you only need to see two of the dots to determine a coordinate (to a limited extent - you could assume the Wii Remote stays in relatively the same place if it can only see two or three LEDs).
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Think its time i do some research on making my own USB powerd "sensor bar" for my mac set-up... perfect considering the wii comes out in less then an hour here in the UK...
ibook g4 + front row + screen spaning docter + eye tv + 19" CRT - inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Open the app, hit the sync button, it should discover the remote automatically. If it doesn't, quit and re-open. Oh, and make sure Bluetooth power is enabled (in system prefs or the bluetooth menu).
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah, user-land support is enough. I'm thinking about putting together a Framework that provides a nice API to work with Wii Remotes.
- Fullmoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Dude, wrong story.
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You're suggesting a LCD display that has the IR sources embedded into the display panel? That would be interesting, if it's possible.
- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow fantastic work.
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Works fine on my dual G5. I had to quit and retry twice before I got it working fully.
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think it's endian issues. Sometimes it just fails to connect fully - try quitting and re-opening the app (a few times if necessary).
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Quit and try again. It didn't work for me the first time, but a quit solved it.
- nermal0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't have a Wii yet, but a Wiimote! Two candles next to my screen, and the cursor works fine!!
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try deleting the nintendo device from your bluetooth settings pane and trying again
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Imagine how accurate it would be if you could put one set of LEDs on either side in the exact middle. I wanna see how the data for the IR Sensor is in real-world compared to the view they show you in the Sensor bar sensitivity on the Wii.
- thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I couldn't get it to work, and I'm guessing it's an endian issue as I'm on a powerbook (PPC). Already the LED buttons don't work, probably due to flipping the wrong half of the bits in the byte that controls this. Can any other PPC users corroborate?
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That didn't take long for someone to develope. Nice work. I love the idea. Can't wait to get my Wii in to try it with my MacBook Pro.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok it seems to see it now after i restarted the computer, but immediately after finding it, it says:
===== could not connect to the WiiRemote...... =====
and I can't actually do anyting (however the graph does move, so it is clearly detecting the remote) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody notice there hasnt been an update on the digg front page in quite awhile?
- Bolarg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Way to go... you broke Digg.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1found this on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uubEgDYoO14
why is this not working for me on my MBP? I've tried restarting the app, the wii, the remote, dozens of times and is never detects it. - TheiPodDoctor, on 01/29/2009, -0/+0I'm using my Wiimote to play NES games on my MAC
MACS RULE
NYCiPodDoctor.com - everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2is there the same thing for the PC yet?
- elbeano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0am I missing something? do I need to discover the wiimote with my bluetooth first?
- elbeano, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1ok, it lets me scroll with the d-pad, but it's not tracking the movements of the pointer
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So I don't have to have an app open when I want to use my Wii remote on my Mac.
- elbeano, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I got bored of trying that, so I'm going to play some excite truck instead

- mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1How can I get it to work the IR port on my MacBook Pro?
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Wow, works great. This will be great when we get kernel drivers.
- Jonas1982, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2I hope this is the website that can destroy Myspace once and for all!! It has the potential! Finally! This is a blessing! Someone finally came up with something better!
Good bye Myspace! - jayswain, on 10/12/2007, -25/+0That was fun, for about 2 seconds. then I realized, oh wait... this is useless unless we get a wii emulator. which would in turn make my wii useless... then I deleted the app.
