Wii Opera Browser: Orb Streaming Works Great!
mycast.orb.com — I've tested streaming Recorded TV, Music, Divx shows, and Pictures all from Http://mycast.orb.com to my Nintendo Wii. Set the player default to Flash / Check Open in a new Window. Cover Art is displayed full screen while you are streaming music. You need the orb service installed on a local machine that has access to your library. Give it a try!

Shows Streaming Recorded TV, Music, Divx files, and the menu system on Orb. - JC4P, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I liked how you couldn't find the Wii Browser channel in the beginning :)
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Orb is hogging CPU power, have it running at average 80% cpu, thats rediculous
Specs: 3ghz 800fsb, 1.5gb dual channel ddr - Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Then something is screwed on your system. Even encoding on my 'old' Dual 3.4 it only hits 30-40% encoding from a tv source or xvid.
More complex footage puts one core up to 60-70.
At idle it doesn't do anything after the library is built.

- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I've never heard much about Orb before. What is it exactly?
- mcfreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Service that allows you to stream all your content over the internet to another computer, phone, etc. Think of Slingbox but without the hardware or the cost (its free).
- BG2010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is awesome. I won't need DVD playback in the Wii if i can stream my entire library of downloaded movies straight from my normal computer.
- nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Awesome. I forgot all about Orb, I used to use it for my phone. Thanks.
- wizeguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This morning I was wondering about orb. It would be nice if orb could some how check and see if your content is on your local network and use that vs the web.
Nice I can't wait to open up my wii.- mcfreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it already does that. At least on one of my local machines. I can't verify it on the Wii however.
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're right, it still does go outside your local network.
It's great for external media, but I have to use Tversity for internal stuff.
- Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow I haven't used orb in ages! I completely didn't even think about this great idea!
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Hope you're able to make it full screen, that huge button bar is distracting..
- robster113, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unfortunately not at the moment although hopefully the final version of wii opera will allow for full screen
- autoacat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does Orb work with Windows Media Center DVR-MS files?
- UTChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think so. I have media center and have used Orb from my pocket pc to schedule a recording which shows up in media center. You can then view those files using orb later. So my guess is yes, but you might want to double check.
- nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, it works fine
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Wouldn't it suck if Orb was owned by the MPAA or the RIAA?
Still, awesome service.- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Owned by Hauppauge, quietly.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It was a joke...
- gkeirns, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'd never heard of ORB before today, and have been messing with it for about a half hour now. I dont seem to be able to watch a majority of video files from my hard drive, including DivX formatted stuff. pictures and mp3s of course work fine. I am wondering, does anyone know of a way to stream content directly from my PC, across my (wireless) router directly to my WII? I dont really like the idea that I'm using my ISP bandwidth to communicate between 2 devices on my home network.
- Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will decode all you have mentioned as long as you have configured it correctly, ie for Wii, Flash encoding.
Try TVersity, but I don't think it encodes to flash. Never tried tbh. - gkeirns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TVersity isnt able to stream to Wii yet, but they're working on it :S

- CrashnBrn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8For some reason when I try to play through my Wii all I can hear is sound and I cant see any video. Any ideas?
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have the same problem.
- guttervoice, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Does anyone know if this will also work with my ps3? The browser for it seems to be clearer than my wii... and yes I'm totally spoiled.
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Having a PS3 doesn't mean you're spoiled... It means you're willing to spend a bunch of money on a video game console that doesn't have any good games out for it currently.
- CrashnBrn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0This does not work with WMV files
- glafira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Everybody kept saying they are not directly competing with the PS3 or the 360 because the Wii lacks Media Capabilities, well there ya have it.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, it does lack Media capabilities. How does this change anything? You still can't play audio/video WITHIN the Wii system or stream it from a PC. If you're happy with having to use Orb for this with *****-poor quality then be my guest...I prefer being able to stream my video/audio without compromising quality..
Also as mentioned by using Orb you're basically going out of your Wii over the interweb and then coming back to your home PC. With the Xbox 360 you connect directly to your PC on your internal network - so your speed is only limited by your network (802.11g = 54mbps). - gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@mobilehavoc
Wii Media Center by RedKawa. - soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you could always encode the files to an SD card and play them off of that. There was a link to a program that formats video files on digg a while back
http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/wiivideo9/
MP3's should work fine. I wonder if flash drives can be recognized by the Wii. maybe even an external hard rive?
I dunno. it has media capabilities, it's just a little less convenient. - kutza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@mobilehavoc Even that is *****-poor streaming, bad controls, horrible interface, plus several formats either don't work or horribly stutter, and it still garbles CPU.
Regular Xbox Media Center works MUCH better than that POS, so don't get on a high horse. That's one thing M$ did right,. Oh wait, no they didn't... that was the home brew community. My bad.
And I can store/play the files locally, NO loss of quality :D.
P.S. I'm sorry your internet sucks :).

- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm, when I play a video, I get audio, but no video...
- flag8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried it, audio plays pretty well.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some video would be nice...if they can get Divx video streaming to my Wii, the Wii will suddenly become the best purchase I've ever made.
- david622, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i confirm the working audio; haven't tried video. it's also nice because when playing audio it gives the album cover.
with wii media center, it found the song I put in the designated folder but wouldn't load/play it. When I tried weezo, I encountered problems with an unopened port on the router, even though the port was open.
But yeah, orb works, even though the quality is "meh" - Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You need the correct codecs. I can confirm that video works, but WMV you'll have trouble with...Only getting sound for that.
Check to make sure you have the right codecs here http://support.orb.com/support/solution.jsp?sol=144 - Tandaemonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Installed and configured and it works great so far. Only one thing...
How do I get it to stop opening IE? Boooooo. - Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is freaking fantastic. Now I can watch video from my PC without needing to convert and copy to SD format.
My PC has now become even more of a TiVo than it was before. :-D - zigman91090, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Orb is the greatest
It even does Winamp - Firefall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just stumbled across Orb while on the Gamefaqs forums this morning and after setting up a static ip and some port forwarding on the host pc, i got it to work with Wii Opera just fine. All the Divx/Xvid files I've tried with it work, although they stutter a little. This EASILY makes up for the Wii's lack of an expansive storage medium and media playback capabilities (though i still would like a way to listen to my ipod's songs while actually playing a game, a la 360).
The future of my use of this program is looking rosy. According to Wikipedia the full version of the Wii browser wil be released in April (and still free until June!), and will allow the user to hide that god-awful nav-bar, allowing full-screen playback.- nekomimi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You can turn that navigation bar off in the free version of Opera at anytime. Go to the control settings and change the toolbar display to "button toggle". You will then be able to toggle the nav bar with the 1 button off and on as you please. When you point the Wiimote pointer off the screen for a few seconds, the Orb nav bar will disappear as well, giving you full screen.
Too bad the quality sucks.

- PhillyPony50, on 11/20/2007, -0/+0sounds awesome! Can't wait to give it a try!
- AkvoD3, on 11/21/2007, -0/+0I just love how this is so multi-usable.
