- emjaymj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49wow... between this and the description... my head asplode
- vexx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37Component cables output 480p.
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27> "No more 480 for us!"
Riiiiight... - DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33Actually component cables can output multiple resolutions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video
"Component video is capable of producing signals such as 480i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p"
Title should just be corrected to say "No more 480i for us!". - mrkmrk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19But some of us don't have component inputs. I'd like s-video cables.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18i thought component was better then S-vid?
- treachen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'm pretty sure he was referring to what the wii can do with component cables, not the resolution they can produce in general, thanks tips. :O
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12ah right
not that many CRT TV's have component correct?
mine doesnt
actually i just checked, mine doesnt even have S-Vid ;_;
I need a new TV - Eallan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's so lame on Nintendo's part that component cables aren't readily available. I don't mind having to buy them, it's just i'd like to be able to actually BUY them.
- jedikd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9only if your tv HAS component inputs...hehe
i figure that a lot of people are like me and bought the cheaper system, and are still running a older tv without component inputs but with s-video - mastershake1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Blaze has produced A/V products for a number of consoles, including VGA cables for PS2. They're not exactly a household name, but I wouldn't consider them shady by any means.
- Khus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm not getting too excited about this. The shipping rate is minimum $21, up to $30 for UPS/FedEx.
Also, to register they want a mobile phone number, not home. Why? To get around the national do not call registry?
Just enough to make the extra week's wait for the cable worthwhile, IMO. I won't order from them after all, but YMMV. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hah, they also have 2000 Wii points for $31.88, only $11.88 more than you'd find... anywhere else!

Pre-Order, ships when stock arrives (2006-11-30) - warcry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Can this site be trusted I have never heard of them, and I am not referring to Engadget
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ditto, anyone know the best way to hook up a Wii or even a Gamecube to a CRT or LCD Monitor?
- yocheo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hey, speaking of CRTs does anyone remember the rumor that the "revolution" was going to be able to hook up to your computer monitor, whatever happened to that?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would agree. It must concern Nintendo somewhat that they banked on most users only wanting composite and analog audio, only to find a huge demand for component video and 480p. People have more HDTVs and EDTVs than N thought I guess.
Still, the price point of the Wii was made possible by the need for less hardware since it doesn't do 720p or 1080i. So perhaps they made the right decision anyway.
Nintendo, please put digital audio on your next machine. And HDTV w/HDMI wouldn't hurt either. - jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just get a Video-In card, they usually come with at least a composite connector. Then plug your Wii into that, and view through monitor. Tada.
Yes, I know you mean directly to montor, and in that case I have no idea. - xOutlawx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Has anyone bought from these guys before? And has anyone actually seen these particular cables in action? I'd rather pay $30 for fully functioning component cables than $6.71 for ***** ones.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Has anyone actually dealt with superufo.com before? I wouldn't mind ordering from them, but their online credit card apyment thing looks dodgy, and with my luck even if i were to pay for UPS i still would have to wait such a long period of time so as to make it not worth it.
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Try something like this
http://www.trianglecables.com/dvi-hdtv200.html - drowen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no don't buy those dvi to component adapters, they only do dvi -> component, not the other way around.
- gomerspile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just bought a Wii and I love it, but looking at Zelda after playing Gears of War on my 360 in 1080i sent me straight to scouring the internet looking for component cables for the Wii. It is hard to look at on a big tv in 480i. It looks like exactly what it is ,a gamecube game. There are those who say 480p isn't truly hd, and they are right. But it is a ***** better than 480i. I am hoping anyway!
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I fully remember that.
I was just reading some things today about an RGB hack for the CGN Component cable. Perhaps a cable for the Wii is on the way? - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4My Wii looks quite excellent on an HDTV with the regular hookups, so I can only imagine how much better the picture is going to be when I finally get some RGB goodness hooked up.
- bs175, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just sold the componet cables from nintendo today for 89 + shipping. I could have gotten more, but hey they sold.
I guess I can live with composite for a few more days... - loconet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is the high demand for these component cables indicative that more and more people are going with HDTVs? Will this push Nintendo into releasing an HD capable Wii faster than planned? I hope so.
- duntuk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2tested on Panasonic 42in plasma (1080i capable) ...
zelda on wii 480i vs 480p
(480i) composite cable: looks 'sorta-ok'
(480p) component cable: looks 'ok'
basically, both look like ***** compared to 720p and higher (i.e. what xbox360 and ps3 can do)
and forget about adding Gears of War into the equation, that's about the best graphics to date on any console...that makes wii zelda graphics look like the NES... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hmm, they use worldpay, whom I have never heard of. I think I am just going to wait. I won't die if I do not get component.
- Steel_Blue, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8There's nothing wrong with these cables other than that they don't have your precious "Nintendo" printed on them.
- tkamen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2There's way too much demand for these things. Getting ahold of one is going to be harder than getting the Wii itself.
Anyone desperate for a cable should do what I did and build your own. It's non destructive and will definitely tide you over until the real cable comes out.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Build_your_own_Wii_Component_Cable_Full_Guide - shit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It also means people want the cleaning looking 480i they can get. Almost all analog SDTVs coming out now have component inputs.
- Salzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you mean an upscaler
- mrberns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The only change is that component cables will allow you to use progressive scan, since the wii is only capable of 480 lines of resolution. Learn about av before you try and report on it.
- kuchino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I know gold conducts the most electricity, but will silver do good too? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8008988&st=Wii+Component+Cable&type=product&id=1156203388826
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not available yet. And won't be available until after Nintendo's cable become available again (Dec 28th).
Inaccurate. - hamstereater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Is 480p even considered HD?
- bobasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I was lucky enough to get one of nintendo's wii component cables, but the picture still looks ***** on my hdtv. Won't stop me from playing zelda, though (beat it yesterday, actually :) .
- jedikd, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5still waiting for wii s-video cables...
- burstaneurysm, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3I think I'll invent a cable for the Wii which will output 1080p now... pipe dreams rule.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1So you would know, loser.
BTW, way to make a Nintendo fangame your #1
Wait?!?!?
Bury me please! - motang, on 10/12/2007, -44/+1yeah I am running at 480i right now, need to get my paws on the component cables so it can do 480i.
