- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I have a solution for you, wait to you get three kids and see how difficult it is to keep everything neat and in it's place and scratch free. Unless you are prepared to tie your kids up, it ain't gonna happen.
Until then shut the ***** up. - maikydb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23all i want is a region free wii
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18It's actually a fairly legitimate thing, I went through 3 morrowind disks on xbox... and with my kids scratches are a major issue, I really would rather not have to replace a game @ 50$/shot because my kid stepped on it. Not everyone is a pirate.
- sabotank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6guess i've gotta find a Wii before i can mod it...
- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Get ready for WiiKeyWiki
- jonesy827, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4dont tell them our secret!
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Im surprised how quickly all three chips came out from each other. I guess there was some bit of common information that was suddenly released that everyone was able to bank on.
At least this one supports games from other NTSC regions and is upgradable, no word yet on homebrew Now we just need one that can force pal/ntsc regardless of the game's video format (modern Xbox and Ps2 chips can already do this) and supports homebrew. - Tr0nc3k, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Some people actually do use them for backups you know. Backups != piracy.
- steban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lots more of information and a comparison of all the modchips here: http://www.wiili.org/Drivechip
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wiis are already being sold in Asia pre-modded and copies cost around $10-15.

- wiirdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We're up to 3 Wii mod chips. No one has explained how to back up your games.

please don't, it really isn't worth it. I own the browser, bought it for a whopping 40euros - which is too much as the load times are just plain awful. sure, i can go on-line for free at t-online hot-spots, i just don't. Whenever i am near a t-online hot-sport, there's usually a free Internet terminal just around the corner anyway.
if it had only cost 10, okay - but 40 is just too much a browser that is clearly lacking IMHO. test it before you buy it! - nintendomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just want some homebrew, like a ps1 emulator that uses the classic controller and can read the actual game cds. Also the ability to use a wired 360 controller through the USB or a sixaxis would be funny. :P
- Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All I want for my Wii is dvd movie playback :(
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hansonc, Hint- I do. My kids play the games though too. I have two kids, one is ~2 and one is ~8. The two year old just wants to move the controller around and watch the guys do whatever he happens to do, the 8 year old even gets grounded if he damages stuff, but it doesn't help. ***** happens... and I just flat out *wore out* the morrowind disks.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's really convenient for getting games earlier..if the opera browser for DS isn't out in America by the summer I'm gonna pick it up in Germany when I visit...It is a little more expensive but it's worth it...
- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That reminds me, I was going to drop into *nix and see if dd would do it for me.
- ryanshepherd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii Disc Dumper (Only works with certain DVD Drives).:

(It only takes ~50 Hours). Ahem. - getbent101, on 12/29/2008, -0/+0for region free wii, you have many choices.... go here - http://www.overstockdistributing.com/home.php?cat= ...
their the cheapeast and best I think... worked out great for me - IdanE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually the "marketing point" was an inaccurate statement made by Perrin Kaplan a while back, and was retracted within a couple of days. The Wii can only play games from its intended region (i.e. US systems only play US games, Euro systems only play Euro games, etc.). This is why the other chips are limited - if I buy a PAL system, I can't import games (and releases in PAL regions are usually a month or 10 behind US releases). The issues is not as bad in USJAP imports, as most people in the states can't really play Jap games - most don't understand the language.
In summary - Wii is NOT import friendly. At least until a proper mod pops up. And, as I assume that this is a drive chip (like the Wiinja and Cyclowiz), it probably won't be able to run unsigned code (homebrew).
Anyone else starting to feel that this is becoming a trend ? the X360 still doesn't have a proper modchip (although drivechips and FW mods are plentiful) and now the Wii... Mods like this do make the "scene" look less about homebrew and more about piracy (Although backing your discs up is a more important feature in my opinion, piracy is what many people use them for) - getbent101, on 12/29/2008, -0/+0don't waste your time with consolesource there too expensive and use crappy mail system
you can get here for even cheaper 17.99 and they use UPS (which my order was cheap)

its a clone, but did exactly what it was suppose to - scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"All I want for christmas is my modified wii."
- justcharlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live in China and I've been looking for modded Wii's. They are not available in mainland China as of very recently. After the 7th I'll return to the video game market and inquire about the availability of this new chip. I'm hoping it works as advertised - if that's the case I'll get a Wii immediately as they're very easy to buy over here. They're Japanese Wii's, btw.
- LiXy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WiiKey in stock for $39.95 at ConsoleSource.com http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/Xeno-WiiKey-Mod-Chip-For-Nintendo-Wii-p-2584.html
- Dragoon87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0copies in thailand cost US$3 to US$5! and probably cheaper in China!
- beanoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good stuff
http://www.wiiyou.com/nintendo-wii/wiikey-setup-discs-released/ - iMusician, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Hansonc, I think shadus meant that his kids play games, too. Think before you say something that's inconsiderate and uncalled for.
To shadus, sorry for interpreting your words. Tell me if I was wrong. - fyrehart, on 10/12/2007, -14/+12lol @ "backups"
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1[deleted: ReadTFA :P]
- netcrusher88, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Your Wii is already region-free, just like your DS if you have one. Don't believe me? Import a Japanese game and try to play it. This was a minor marketing point for a long time - import gamers are an important market segment.
- hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -29/+10I have a solution.... put your damn games away like an adult.
