- chris54950, on 11/05/2008, -13/+180Yay! A man whose stance is essentially to make the parents monitor video game use, not the industry.. smart man.
- TheBigBad, on 11/06/2008, -0/+87I truly doubt that with everything on his plate, Obama gives two squirts for anything regarding video games right now.
- DryCat, on 11/05/2008, -33/+116McCain was in full Christian-right pander mode so probably would have banned Q-Bert for having an overly phallic nose.

- sloo, on 11/06/2008, -1/+56Sounds fair to me....we'll see what happens.
I really dont think any sort of intervention will prevent Mrs.Retard from buying her 11 year old kid GTA4 though. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -6/+54Wow, what a pointless article. What's next?
"What will Obama do for the disposable razor industry?" - chipwar, on 11/06/2008, -5/+51The government will now play your video games for you.
- h4rdcor3, on 11/06/2008, -1/+43While I like the idea of having parents doing their job, like he said. It won't happen. Have you sheen the things these little ***** get away with today?
Parents believe that everything should be taught in school, but without the authority to physically make kids do things, teachers can't do anything.
In short- PARENTS, DO YOUR ***** JOB! - trentrezn0r, on 11/06/2008, -10/+50Baraka Wins!

ACK BAR
IT'S A TRAP!! - reaper527, on 11/06/2008, -5/+28i don't think we read the same article chris.
"“I would call upon the video game industry to give parents better information about programs and video games by improving the voluntary rating system we currently have. Broadcasters and video game producers should take it upon themselves to improve this system to include easier to find and easier to understand descriptions of exactly what kind of content is included. But if the industry fails to act, then my administration would.
“And even if the industry does do some responsible self-policing, there’s still a role for the federal government to play." - nsummy, on 11/06/2008, -4/+21You know for the most part digg's front page links used to be at least semi-intelligent. Now links from mtv are making the front page? come on

“And even if the industry does do some responsible self-policing, there’s still a role for the federal government to play. We need to understand the impact of these new media better. That’s why I supported federal funding to study the impact of video games on children’s cognitive development.”
These last two paragraphs are scary. What have we done??? - nymphetamine, on 11/06/2008, -1/+16Hey, it's the Don't Blame Me Guy!
- km4544, on 11/06/2008, -7/+21Exactly, what we needed. A Government Study funded by tax payer money to examine the effects of violent video games on our youth. Next, government will need to study the effects of CNN nightly news.
- reaper527, on 11/06/2008, -4/+17"And even if the industry does do some responsible self-policing, there’s still a role for the federal government to play."
no, it doesn't. government has NO business injecting itself into video games at all. less than 24 hours and he is already talking about wasting my tax dollars - WhipTail, on 11/06/2008, -0/+13And how can you be more obvious than putting "contains strong violence, very strong language, sex and drug references. Only suitable for persons of 18 years or over" on the box? (UK version atleast). Parents are accountable for their childrens access to such material. Not purely the industry producing it.
- scoottie, on 11/06/2008, -3/+14biden is one of the biggest leaders against freedom of the internet and gaming
- darkciti2, on 11/06/2008, -1/+11I don't think the video gaming industry is going to be very high on his list of priorities.
How about we fix the economy so we can buy more games?! - weeFred, on 11/06/2008, -2/+12You obviously didn't read the article, Obama does not want to regulate this, he wants to give parents more information and possibly a better rating system. The only people who will be regulating are parents. Learn to read.
- mywhitenoise, on 11/05/2008, -5/+15What makes you think he isn't doing that as well? He said he's a gamer, it's just not on the top of his priorities. I found it appalling that some people preferred SARAH PALIN over Joe Biden, because of his stance on net neutrality...seriously guys, you'd rather have Palin because of that!?
I agree with him. I play A LOT of games, that doesn't mean ***** if I don't have money to buy them, or if I'm drafted to some war I don't want to be in. - johnroth, on 11/06/2008, -2/+11I'm more efficient than that, you *****!
I rub one out WHILE I scrim. Of course, now I get a boner whenever I hear gunshots or someone talking over a walkie talkie... - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -4/+13I'm not a gamer (anymore) but Digg is a site for more than 1 kind of person. You come off as a complete ***** in your comment, which I'm sure you already know. Try to be more open minded.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10Every 3rd video game you now buy has to be given to a poor person.
- Cerebron, on 11/06/2008, -0/+9If you can't trust your kid to obey your wishes the instant they leave your sight, then why trust them to obey laws regarding video games, alcohol, drugs, etc?
Why punish your neighbor's kids by making a statewide law screwing them out of their right as trustworthy children (unlike your kids) to watch or play what they want?
You can't monitor your kids, thats one thing, but damned if I let you monitor mine. That is why 'parents responsibility' isn't a fallacy. - kingernoy, on 11/06/2008, -3/+12This article is a joke, right?
- daschupa, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8Yah, he's better than having Hillary in the spot, but still I predict a presidential ***** storm at the next cup of hot coffee.

- FrederikNS, on 11/06/2008, -1/+9The video game industry is about to grow larger than the movies industry, and has already overtaken the music industry, so about the economy; computer games have quite a bit to say.
- bagelmaster, on 11/06/2008, -7/+15Why the hell would we shut up? We didn't just elect him to forget about him. We put him in the White House, now we plan on holding him accountable for the promises he made. We shall see if holds up to his word.
- spiffyfitz, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8Careful, they might spend all your gold pieces on saving the auction house economy.
- Pake, on 11/06/2008, -4/+12"He will expand government and regulate something that needs no regulation (no surprise).... don't blame me for the continued corruption of this country's core values "
So you should have no problem with everyone blaming you and Ron Paul when net neutrality is a but a figment of our imagination and we're all on tiered plans. - vtnerd, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7You protect her from those people, jackass.
Government's job is not to look over your shoulder and make sure you don't run with scissors. - maximilen, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7lol
- Mahoney07, on 11/06/2008, -2/+9Obama = taxing game companies more while lowering the poors taxes. Seems like a revolving door to me. Why not get out of Iraq and lower other spending instead of increasing taxes?
- blitzkriegpunk, on 11/06/2008, -6/+13***** MTV!!!
- LordoftheLoo, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8Last I checked it was Obama who wanted to get out the troops by a certain time (as opposed to McCain who wanted to stay there till we won). He cant do anything till he actually becomes president.
- bluemist, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7The 1up article which MTV linked is the better read:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171125 - Zarokima, on 11/06/2008, -2/+8He specifies in the following sentence that that "role for the federal government to play" is in studies of how games affect the cognitive development of children. When you leave that part it it sounds like he's proposing something horrible, but with all the information it's actually pretty fair.
- maximilen, on 11/06/2008, -7/+13I don't know, but I know what they mean for net neutrality :)

- iloveobama, on 11/06/2008, -0/+5Awesome. I hope we can become more like Europe now, only if it includes all of the surviellence and speed cameras.
- Syric, on 11/06/2008, -1/+6A reminder about capitalism:
A functioning free market depends, as you may know from bonehead econ 101, on there being good information about the goods and services in question. Lack of such information may be considered a market failure, albeit a practically negligible one in this case. Promotion of accurate ratings systems and such will benefit consumers (parents) by helping them make informed decisions. That's fine by me.
What's not fine by me is any attempt to actually restrict people from buying whatever video games they want (be they parents or the kids if they have money). It's the parent's responsibility to tell kids "don't buy that, and I won't buy it for you"; it's not the store's or the developer's responsibility to ask "are you sure your mommy said it's okay?".
Normally you'd think it'd be liberals who would promote stuff like that, but no, it's actually just the over-protective parents on both sides of the aisle. - sauron256, on 11/06/2008, -1/+6Agreed, Zarokima. He is calling for scientific study instead of a knee-jerk "ban all games!" that other politicians are so fond of. It's fantastic that this man is now President.
- Ismith988, on 11/06/2008, -0/+5Only a dedicated father would stay out in the cold waiting at a midnight launch to get his kid one of the first copies the first night.

- jakatak, on 11/06/2008, -7/+12Are you kidding. This just gives the Obama followers a license to continue.
Funny, most Obama supporters are atheists, and yet they praise him like a God. How Sodom and Gomorrah of you.
(for you digg users) - Sodom and Gomorrah was two cities that God flamed out because of homosexuality (Prop 8), abortions (Prop 4) and a bunch of other immoral activities. -
