- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+60It's not hacked, it's just explained.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44I'd like to see a hack where someone discretely embeds some IR led's into their TV.
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47We are not amused.

:( - IcyStorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33You're on Digg -.-
Enough said. - bdrydyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17What do you mean? that comment taught me that alteal is a self righteous idiot.
- alienasa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17May I note that that comment had absolutely no value whatsoever.
- dxprog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Well, I guess I'm the biggest, nerdiest Screech look alike on the internet today :-P
- 1Bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11If all you do is troll Wii articles, why should I think that you are anything more than an idiot or an *****?
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10How many ways can you describe people who are total ***** morons who lack the decency to participate in a normal conversation?
*****. Goblin. Troll. Pissant. Dickweed. *****. Blocked.
If flamebaiting news site comment pages rules your life and you (supposedly) have a life outside of your obsession, why should I think you are anything more than brain-damaged or just-plain antisocial? - SPThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Umm... The position isn't arbitrary. If you notice, he was pointing the Wii controller down towards the remote controllers to get the cursor to appear on screen. It still uses triangulation, just backwards from what most people expected
- Guye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Don't you mean "don't" have lives outside of your obsession? Otherwise what you said doesn't really make any sense if you're saying games rule people's lives, yet they do have lives outside their obsession.
Right.
Some of us may be idiots, some of us may be *****, but I think you've taken a step towards demonstrating to the rest of us that you are both. - artgon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The more you know...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I wish between the thumb up and thumbs down button, there was a "kick'em in the crotch" button.
Oh TCP/IP gods, there is much work to be done. - angrycat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8infrared... RADIATION!!!!!! Get nancy grace on this, our children will get cancer from this devil machine.
Lets see how well your sarcasm meters are calibrated. - JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Am I the only one getting a bit tired of far too much use of "l33t"?
I mean...just type hacked. (Never mind the fact that nothing was hacked) - OnoTadaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I find it funny that you've gone to every Wii article in the last 2 months and posted the exact same message in each.
- fastfourrier, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Alteal: Your terms of debate are predicated upon a gender specific simile which you then conflate with a general, pejorative noun. A more useful area of inquiryfor you might be to examine your internalisation of negative stereotypes of women, and how, through the use of DIGG to troll, you are working out some psychosocial issues that may well be destroying you inside. It's probably all about your mother.
- JohnyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I shot a video (posted to youtube) of the actaul transmitters in the sensor bar. My digital camera picks up the ir part of the spectrum:

I don't think it will be too long before there are 3rd party sensor bars on the market. Pack that frigger with 10x the transmitters and game on from 60 feet away. ;) - NiX0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5agreed,
haxz0rd would imply someone did something new with the sensor bar. nope. reasonably good explanation? yes. hacked? no. - NiX0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7we prefer to be called engineers
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He can do that because he has an AWESOME life!
- Morsetlis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What if I am a ***** w/ seizures :(
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a hack ALPHA.
- caffiend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@wastern
No, I also think I'm cool on Slashdot and Fark. - monkeychewtoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"All of you adults who are addicted to computer games act like giddy little girls who do not want to grow up."
Half a sentence. All you people who are tall. If I assume you mean to say "All of you are adults who are," then I will proceed as follows:
The age requirement to join Digg is thirteen, not eighteen. To read it, there is no age requirement. There is nothing very concrete that you could use to support your claim that we are adults. In fact, I'm only seventeen.
There is nothing, either in the title, heading, linked article, or comments, to suggest a video game addiction.
I have met many giddy little girls in my short life, and all of them have been eager to grow up, trying on their mothers' shoes and trying to put lipsticks on their cheeks.
"Why should anyone think that you are anything more than idiots."
Why should anyone think that you are anything more than an idiot? Note the question mark, if you will. The irony of your idiocy amuses and delights me.
Regardless, the answer is: "Because we are intelligent, rationing human beings who enjoy video games either as entertainment or escapist fantasies, and the Wii in particular as a curious example of ingenuity and human artifice, if not for the aforementioned reasons of entertainment and escapism.
"If you wish to respond, please, try to make a reasonable argument."
I have done so. It is now your turn, if I understand the general procedure for debates. Please, try to make a reasonable argument, rather than an easily-defeated sweeping generalization, as has been your habit thus far.
"If you are a child and don't have the ability to debate, I will treasure your insults. Fire away."
It is interesting to note your perceived pride in bettering children. Most people, and excuse me for not citing an actual statistic to support my claim, would find no joy in defeating a child during a debate on the internet.
That said, I am legally a minor, and am listed on my parents' tax forms as a 'dependent,' and I have fired. Though I have fired more towards you than away from you. I hope you don't mind.
Please also excuse me if I largely ignore any and all rebuttals you make. Besides my relative confidence in their potential ignorance, immaturity, generality, and general idiocy, internet debate also just is not a productive way for me to spend my time. I may check back later to see if I get dugg down, or to see if you've made an actual comment worth remarking on. Indeed, the only reason I have bothered posting all this at all is to rob you of the impression that you have somehow 'won.'
I treasure your insults. - Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Totally, I find 12 inches to be a burden sometimes.
Yeah, I'm a 4 year old trapped in a 25 year old's body. What of it? - JAppi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** having seizures only move their right arm?
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Won't take long... Hell, Nintendo made a TV that had a Super Famicom directly incorporated into it. Only a matter of time before someone mods an entire Wii suite into a TV.
- flizzoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if this means that my IR remote extender will effect the accuracy of the wiimote. It tries do duplicate any IR that it senses.
- dgendreau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the title as well. I agree with the "this isnt actually a hack" posts. Still useful info though.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7HE UNDERSTAND TECHNOLOGY HAHAHA WAHT A LOOZER!!!1
Seriously guys, get over it. I suck with anything as technical as this and am very impressed by how they figured out something of such caliber by themselves. Unlike a lot of other weird, impressive stuff we see here, this is actually somewhat useful and based on actual science. Hardly something to sneer at. - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, most cheap cameras pick up IR. Aim your cameraphone at a remote if you don't believe me.
It's the good ones that filter it out. - monkeychewtoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I want to apologize for the length of that post. Digg it down if you want to collapse its girth. I was trying to edit it when I right-clicked in the pane, and that seemed to cause it to disappear. Now it's back, and in its unedited form to boot. Sorry. I know the whole thing was unnecessary, and that I shouldn't feed the trolls, but I have a hard time passing up the opportunity to argue. It's a flaw in my character, you see.
Again, sorry. If you're annoyed by its length, but would otherwise have dugg it up, digg this post up instead and digg the long one down, just for ease of reading. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Trollfeeder MCT - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well this way it's easier to distinguish between what is a legitimate hack and what is a kid trying to look cool.
- KayinNasaki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3To save money, probably.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if his is working as well as mine it's fine.
- BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About as well as his Wiimote.
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They mention things like "tearing apart a remote" as if IR LEDs are hard to come by. They cost something on the order of 30 cents at Radioshack. Get a watch battery, probably a couple of resistors (I'm not an electrical engineer in any sense), and a 2-4 of those, and tape them to the bottom of your TV.
- JackandCoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would an extender increase the efficiency of the wiimote?
What it seems like is that the sensor bar gives a specific area a person can play within. Say someone added a larger array of IR lights to the ends of the Sensor bar, and then point them to the left and right of the bar, does that allow myself to play in a wide area?
Next they should try putting their camera on Nightvision mode, and record someone playing the Wii, and see if it is affected. It looks like, and this has probably been already said, that the Wiimote is the receiving light information from the sensor bar and the mote is sending info through Bluetooth.
What does that mean i can do know? - meznak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting discovery, but not even close to "hax0red." I want to digg, but the title is way too inaccurate.
- meznak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"All of you adults who are addicted to computer games act like giddy little girls who do not want to grow up.
Why should anyone thi
And then, did he press The Block Button. And he looked upon his work, and it was good. - dxprog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using the stock batteries since I got it (Sunday morning) and still have 3/3 bars of life.
- bilangew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Nothing hacked. Marked as inaccurate." (/sarcasm)
Nah, actually I dug it, even if its not science or hacks, it explains quite well the uses of the sensor bar.
On a side note, how long can batteries last in a Wiimote? - synmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unlikely since it is not pulsed IR.
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm guessing your extender is pointing the opposite direction - these IR LEDs go from the TV to your remote, whereas other remote go the other way.
(that's assuming your extender isn't omnidirectional, of course. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7sigh... they explain how the wii sensor works but yet they didn't know camcorders picked up IR.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sorry. My fault. It was simple to me. (misuse of the word "Hax0red").
But I forgot I was dealing with children...
and cavemen. /me hides - qwertydvorak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i would guess that the sensor bar is separate because some people have entertainment stands or game cabinets that have opaque doors on them. not everybody wants to see the game consoles they have. not only that, but it could be possible that someone would like to have the wii turned sideways flat against the wall (lcd and plasma people come to mind)
