I cannot count the hours I spent on that game!
The rooftops, the trains, the rain! Loved that game!
They should add "River City Ransom" and "Bubble Bobble!" Just because!- Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23"from a trustworthy source" - I don't have any reason to believe any of this, sorry. Want to, but the site is not all that reputable.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't launch this without some Square Enix stuff (I mean, who here DIDN'T have a copy of Dragon Warrior for the NES?)
Also no Super Mario 3? Come on... Nintendo would be stupid without putting a little bit more effort into launching a larger list of titles people really want. I mean there's no tetris on there for pete's sake. - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -24/+12http://www.google.com/search?&q=nes%20roms
There, I just saved you about fifty bucks. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's pilotwings? :P
- quiddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Where's my "Yoshi's Island"?!
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am more than sure that will be added later, too bad it's not a launch title, it was one good game.
- alxdman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where's SMB3?
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+233. Duck Hunt
Nice. Looks like downloadable games will be able to use the wiimote too. Now that there's a web browser, it's only a matter of time before we start seeing some Wii homebrew.- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great observation! maybe, the usless power glove games will be available also :)
- FreyrVanir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9My five must own list, whats yours..
Kid Icarus
Legend of Zelda, The
Ninja Gaiden
Punch-Out!!
Super Mario World- AgentEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I tried, I really did. But I just couldn't get it down to only five. Honestly I almost couldn't get it down to only 10.
1. Castlevania
2. Duck Hunt
3. F-Zero
4. Legend of Zelda, The
5. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
6. Metroid
7. Sonic the Hedgehog
8. Star Fox
9. Super Mario 64
10. Super Mario World - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ocarina of Time, Duck Hunt and Sonic The Hedgehog will tide me over until the library's expanded.
Can't wait to see Starfox 64 and - even though it's a very long shot - a load of Squaresoft games up there. *crosses fingers* - helliox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here is my list:
1. Castlevania: Simons Quest
2. Super Mario 3
3. Mega Man 2
4. Shining Force 2 (One of the greatest Tactical RPG's)
5. Final Fantasy - phronko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15As long as Barbie Horse Adventures is on there, I'm happy.
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For me the ones that I really want to get right off the bat are:
Super Mario World
Super Mario 3
Vector Man
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
Golden Axe
Street of Rage
Donkey Kong Country series (if they make it)
- AgentEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I tried, I really did. But I just couldn't get it down to only five. Honestly I almost couldn't get it down to only 10.
- Wiicalum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm questioning the authenticty of this. It satets that it was recveived from 'their sources' and they made no indication as to who they were - just like most rumours. I shall treat this as a rumour for the time being.
- chaser324, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I completely agree. This is a rumor. I'll wait for an official press release from Nintendo before I start thinking about downloading Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, or Super Mario RPG.
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2may only be a rumor, but for all intents and purposes these games will be on the list sometime in the launch window or a bit later (maybe up until spring 07).
- drakonite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"may only be a rumor, but for all intents and purposes these games will be on the list sometime in the launch window or a bit later (maybe up until spring 07)."
Yes... because unless I'm mistaken N has already mentioned, demonstrated, 'leaked' images, or has already rereleased all of the games in the list.
From what N has been saying, the list of games available almost immediately is 2 or 3 times longer than this list...
...It's just another crappy site making up 'exclusive' info.
- Shironeko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Does that mean, we'll be able to do a "barrel roll" moving the wiimote?
- DarkJedi375, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I'll be happy once I see "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" up there.
- XxEric03xX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Hell yea! That has got to be my favorite game of all time!
- space1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Where is RC Pro Am?
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2thats like nothing :|
also this is obviously not accurate - mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 would be dream come true if they did an online multiplayer system for VC games... the hours spent on those games...
- sldSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mario Kart: Double Dash.
- JohnCrichton, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I don't need a VC to play these games, I have most of them on emulator's.
- sudoeste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Any rumors about vc prices ?
- Peterh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8yeah, the pricing was announced a while back... I think they said it'd be in the $5 to $9 range, depending on the game.
- Angmar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Those prices were for NEW games not old ones.
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Atleast some promos will provide the classics for free.
IE: Buy Smash Brothers Wii and download original Super Smash Brothers. - jwasko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Atleast some promos will provide the classics for free.
IE: Buy Smash Brothers Wii and download original Super Smash Brothers."
When/where did you hear that? But if it's true...awesome!
- Keloran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8if mario kart 64, works over the net, i can see that being the most popular racing game for hte wii
- heilig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4did someone say block fort?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah... Mario Kart 64 has been the best in the series. I really didn't like Double Dash for gamecube, the multiplayer maps were really poor in comparison.
- danc4498, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I didn't see Goldeneye that list. A very bit miss if you ask me. I can only hope they are re-working it to use the wii-mote
- EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I believe it wont be happening, because EA owns the James Bond rights currently
- Xinex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3NOOOO! Please Nintendo or EA or whoever, find it in your kind hearts. Bring. Back. Goldeneye.
- Laxaloot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1no, it is actually because rare helped Nintendo make golden eye and rare is now Microsoft's bitch. at least I'm pretty sure why. and unlike games like Donkey Kong I believe rare had more rights then Nintendo for that game. I could be wrong.
- Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, Microsoft now owns rare... though, I really want this to happen!!
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That list is stilll missing some of the biggest hits...
SMB3
Goldeneye
All the nintendo Final Fantasy games (although squeenix may be holding them back)
And no word on pricing.- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They should add multiplayer to Goldeneye. I would never leave my room.
- cappslite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I find it interesting that Sonic Hedgehog is on the classics list. Nintendo now has the rights to distribute it, but it wasn't a nintendo original and doesn't have the NES look and feel if you ask me. It's pure Genesis and was one of very few reasons Sega's 16 bit system lasted as long as it did.
- krummb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Punchout!! Forget Fight Night, Little Mac is the *****, opening some whoop ass on Piston Honda, Bald Bull, King Hippo, & Soda Popinski.
- thepyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really hope Square lets them add Secret of Mana some time along that wii's reign.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RC Pro Am? Contra? TMNT 2?
- IcyStorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm sure there will be more games added on as they go...
Goldeneye is iffy since Rare developed it (now owned by MS) and Activision (or EA, at least until 2007 I think) owns the license now.- albybum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know much about how those things work in the industry but doesn't that license just cover the exclusive rights to develop NEW games from the franchise.
Technically, this wouldn't be a new game.
- albybum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know much about how those things work in the industry but doesn't that license just cover the exclusive rights to develop NEW games from the franchise.
- KrocCamen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I find it odd that the list is so select. If they have a good emulator written (and that I do believe), then they should be able to release just about everything in one go. There may be other reasons though:
* Maybe there are legal/IP issues at hand, and the collection will grow over time as these are resolved
* Perhaps they are re-compiling the games from the original source, so that they can change the button icons and names to fit the Wii classic controller. This would make things much much easier, as a person who'se never played an N64 before, may become confused when the game is asking to press C-Down, but there is no C-Down on the Wii controller.- cell00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They've said themselves they'll release 'em a bunch at a time.
- thepyro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0If only copyrights lasted 20 years like they should...
I think they are planing on releasing addons for each game system(snes and n64) like this one http://i.i.com.com/cnet.g2/images/2006/news/05/09/wii_controller_screen001.jpg
and I think it was already shown that they plan on you turning the wiimote on its side for nes games. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Releasing them all at once is pointless. You wanna keep the interest up, overwhelming people with choice means they'll probably buy less. Look how well the Live Arcade Wednesday things worked, because people knew they always had something to wait for :)
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@CrocCamen
VC games are meant to use the classic controller because it has all the buttons of a NES, SNES, and N64. You just have a choice of playing NES games with the Wiimote, that's all.
- MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No Mario Tennis? Nooo!!
- achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mortal freaking Kombat! (I hope it's not the censored SNES version)
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8MORTAAAAL KOMBAAAT!!!
- jrathert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nintendo doesn't want to oversaturate the market at launch since we'll all already be spending so much. Thus, there will be plenty more later on (probably around Christmas), but I think this is a great start.
- AgentEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One game they didn't have on the list, that I really was hoping for is Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Hopefully they'll add it shortly after launch.
Not that I won't have enough games to play with the Wii originals, and the other VC games though. - DokWho, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1How Much $$$$$$. Last I read $4.99/game.
That's just too much for some of these games that you won't play more than 5 minutes, cause though they were awesome back then, they don't quite do it anymore.
some Video games tend not to age that well.
So just go DL these games on them many many ROM sites for free and re-live the pain these games used to cause you.- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10To say you're missing the point of VC would be a gross understatement.
- AoiTakuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they would definitely have a ton more first party games out at launch for that this may be a portion of whats coming out, but i hope to see a ton more.
- jla1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw a different article on here not that long ago which had more games on the list. I wonder which one is correct...
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2more games would be nice, the few it does have are really good games though, I noticed almost all of those are made by shigeru miyamoto, like half of them 0_o.I want super mario world.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting that the console versions of each title aren't listed - a few of those were released on multiple consoles. Outrun, R-Type, Ninja Gaiden and Mortal Kombat are the ones that spring to mind.
- c0dy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If that's not speculation and it's indeed the real Wii Virtual Console line-up, then it would definitely put XBLA to shame from day one. Not to mention Wii's line up games... easily the best console launch ever?
- pastasauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Chrono Trigger?
Earthbound?
E.V.O.?
Harvest Moon?
Space Invaders?
TETRIS?!?!?!
I hope they are adding more.- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I want some Kirby Superstar! as well as EB and CT...
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2TETRIS! My mom would stop answering my phone calls and cooking if they put Tetris on there...lol
- oldnavy1918, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All the Mario carts....
Where are the Mario partys? - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Super Smash Bros, am I the only one who thinks the first one was the best?
- DasPope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope to god the wii wont be just a bunch of the old games revived like the ds and will have something new. SSBB is all im getting it for, same reason i got gamecube
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder how long it will be before someone manages to crack the presumably encrypted ROM files used by virtual console. I can think of many games that I would like to play on Virtual Console that Nintendo does not offer.
- itsamix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I NEED SOME BLADES OF STEEL
- JED9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Paperboy!?
- ChrisRX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was personally hoping that majora's mask would be on there, because I loaded up my n64 the other day hoping to play MM (after hours of blowing onto the cart of course) and forgot how bad the resolution was on the n64.
*Awaits a native resolution Majora's mask on the virtual console* - Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2> 6. Kid Icarus
I am SO buying this system on launch day! The debt-less credit card in Kid Icarus is ingenious!
Although, I am both *shocked* and disappointed that the following did not make it:
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Metriod
Donkey Kong Countries (any of them)
Donkey Kong 64 (license issue w/Rare?)
Also, why not some GBA games?- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Economics 101 says that you don't flood the market with all your goods at once. You never want people to start thinking about which "good" game to buy, because you want them to buy all of them.
When faced with buying 2 games, people are more likely to buy them both if there release dates are spread far apart than when they are together. Especially since you can only really play one game at a time. :P

- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm confused about how you'll play some of these games without the original controllers?
Especially the N64 titles. Will you be able to buy new controllers to fit in the wii?- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can use the GameCube controllers, they map nicely.
Plus Wii, has a regular controller it looks like the next generation version of a SNES pad.
-Brett
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can use the GameCube controllers, they map nicely.
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok... after reading this list, its CLEAR its just speculation.
REMEMBER:
Nintendo is emulating systems from 1985 - 1996. Its not exactly trying to play XBOX quality games on XBOX 360. Therefore, unlike Microsoft, Nintendo could in theory develop "general" emulators for each system, WITHOUT the special tweaking MS requires for each game. Therefore, any game for these systems that they maintain the rights to could (AND WOULD) be uploaded and work out of the box. I highly doubt Launch will go live without their best selling Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. I also doubt they would include the original Super Mario Brothers, and not the updated and much nicer version in Super Mario All-Stars.
Although speculation, I am digging it because it has Super Mario RPG, but thats the only reason.- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are some terrible NES and SNES titles that should never see the light of day again.
- jrathert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nintendo can leverage VC as a selling point. Therefore, why give it all away right off the bat? We have access to all the GC games and they're putting out some big hitters right away. Why not release them in intervals to get excitement up for VC when things are getting slow?
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1General emulators for the NES and N64 have already been made (see Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition for the Gamecube). However, they still need a lot of polish on the N64 emulator as it had some compatibility issues with Majora's Mask.
Does anyone know if the games will have any enhancements? - wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For general N64 emulation to be accurate, it has to use way more CPU power than the wii can possibly muster. I would imagine they'll have a high level, not very compatible general emulator, but have to specifically tweak it for each game.
- 1310nm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18-bit heaven!
Excitebike
Punch-Out!!
Tecmo Bowl
Where's Street Fighter 2, NBA Jam, and the Final Fantasy series? - dontuseautofire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay, I figured I knew my videogames, but what the ***** is Bonk's Adventure?
- castleking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bonk's Adventure was a game for the TurboGrafx 16, or PC Engine as it was known in Japan. You played as a caveman who had to save a purple princess. His attacks consisted of smashing stuff with his head, and going completely insane by eating meat. That is still one of my most favorite games ever.
- 83457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Bonk's Adventure is best known as a game on Nick Arcade
- 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No super mario all stars (with all the O.G. marios+super mario world)? Pshh..
- keviniskool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where are my prepaid VC cards!!!!???
- mode7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WHERE THE F*** IS EARTHBOUND AND EARTHBOUND ZERO (OH YES, AND MOTHER 3)
- Andero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF? Super Smash Bros 64, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye? I cannot trust this list, nor do I want to.
- Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This is sad compared to the amount of emulation that will be available for the PSP.
- novamob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's sad that emulation runs at 5 fps.
- nappingcracker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure!
[..breath..]
Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure! Bonks Adventure!
Oh my how I love this game!
