- bokchoi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Why is anything motion detecting related automatically associated with the Wii? The concept has been around for ages.
- davidfg4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14If anyone is curious here is the cube demo:

I works best if you hold you fist close to your webcam and rotate it. - Byroncoughlin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7ooo, very difficult to do with a macbook pro.
But got it working with a second monitor.
And a mirror in front of the screen works as well. sweet - djdigital, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://cam.playdo.com

http://cam.playdo.com/ - npsken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6have your webcam on and ready, then just aim it at the screen. move the cam around, see what happens...
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Whoever made it up on Amigas, back in ~1989. I don't know his name.
It's about time someone used this idea again. I wonder what took so long? - irwhiteboi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6A mirror maybe?
- heavyness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4plug in your webcam for these...

- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pretty damn sweet, but can the spy on me once i have said "Allow access"?
- Gaiden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ha ha ha , i liked it and it's a great idea but that's only spacially 2d ,so it's like the gun sensor on the wiimote, the wiimote can also detect it's 3d position in the room... Still cool... I'd like to see that concept expanded into something you could play , and it would be interesting to see how they'd incorporate the dots into the game without affecting gameplay
- BlackPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Has anyone ever done something like this in flash before? My mind is teeming with ideas...
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6extreamly rough translation. doesnt make much sense.

- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3heh. I thought about that. For all we know, it's logging every image received on a central database somewhere. :D
- z0l0pht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's the flash, someone try it full screen (open with a web browser, F11)
http://psyark.jp/archive/2005/12/09/guncon.swf - ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Works in full screen, pretty sick.
- SoldierPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah it's all about the dots
- templest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh, man... seriously slick. My Logitech QuickCam has a button on the top,
is this the start of the next-gen, Flash-based FPS games?
I sure hope so. - ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4pick up your cam and point it at the dots..
its amazing. - chthonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"A note to Mac users - it seems like you might have adjust the settings of your iSight in order for Flash to receive the camera stream: right click on the cube, go to "settings", and specify video source is "firewire""
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I want more demos!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+260cms would be more like two feet, and yes, our stupid american system is lame.
(hmm I'll just cut this ruler to the size of my foot, and everybody has to use it!) - Archatas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a pity, I don't have a web cam to try that, but I hope it would be interesting to try that.
Also I have also a link to a flash-based motion-detection game, made by some Lithuanian Antanas Marcelionis:
http://www.motiongames.net/ - templest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Installed it, set everything... couldn't figure out how to make it control the mouse, as it claims.
Checked README, nothing. Checked Online Manual, nothing. Checked Forum, nothing.
Uninstalled.
Maybe once some documentation is released, I'll give it another try. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Check out Grant Skinner's work at www.incomplet.org .. It's WAY more impressive than this stuff... You can play drums+music with your webcam etc.
- allenu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Kinda neat, but nothing new. It would be better if they allowed you to point the camera at any stationary scene. The algorithms in this are pretty simple (detect red dots, detect difference between frames), would be interesting to see in a game.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes a while ago there was a flash where you could leave your webcam sitting still and move your hand about to spin a 3D cube, it detected, movement left, right, up, and down, also a twisting motion if done right.
You could probably write some code for a webcam to detect a while object with some colored dots on it the same way that the webcam detects the colored dots on the page.
dugg - ISchiavon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome cant wait to see some flash games that use this
- Kazenodeku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing applet, but it'd need to be much improved before it could really be put to use.
Why? Because the current detection is based on the placement of 3 spots. If a game was to implement this, it'd need to either have those 3 spots, or come up with a much better way of doing it, by detecting color placements on the screen and cam live.
Still- great start. - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I can't get it to recognize my stand-alone iSight...
- darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, douchebag pretty much summed it up. Trainwreck, if you want to be an *****, do it in the privacy of your own home.
- SoldierPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah seriosuly, the fire one is awesome
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No. The dots are just reference points for the camera.
- 000jr000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(panting... after running around the room for the last 5 min on fire....) oh man... that last one is awesome!
- douchebag80, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7@TrainwreckX
Douchebag - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2better than the dots
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is flash 9 supported? - or just Flash 8.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3VERY Cool, little slow, but congrats to who ever made this up.
- max22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The crosshair wigs out on my computer, jumping and flashing all across the screen. Any idea why?
- aximbigfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2cool. there was something like this only oppiste a while back. you would move your hand in front of the webcam and a cube on screen would mrotate in that direction. ijust formated the system that i am one so i havent installed the drivers for my webcam but i wil chack back wheni do...
- Gullop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's awesome.
- idmclaren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fire link + Luminositi Softcam + MSN Messenger and telling your friends you're on fire = FUN! =D That's so cool.
- augnober, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@max22
Make sure the dots are red in the webcam view. I think the applet only detects red spots, so oversaturated white spots are no use. If they're appearing white for you, try to adjust your webcam settings to fix it. You may be able to help fix it by making sure that the surrounding area of your screen is bright -- perhaps use the original link at high resolution so that the applet doesn't fill the page.
Short answer is to make sure you see three red dots in your webcam view, and no other red. - CaseyB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Check out Grant Skinner's work at www.incomplet.org .. It's WAY more impressive than this stuff"
Um, no. Grant Skinner's stuff is just a bunch of Flash videos. This you can actually USE. - cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm also using a MBP, guess I have to bust out a mirror. :(
- eugeneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmmm, my japaneese comment didn't translate right. Awww...
- jaschwan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes cant you see the ulterior motive.. What they would have to gain!?
- Dekaritae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You don't need flash to do this. You can use Freelook, and you can use it with games.
http://freelook.org/ - Nicko9y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very interesting.
