- GuitarHeroDenn, on 10/06/2008, -1/+22Future generations shall know the glory that was Conker's Bad Fur Day.
- AmyVernon, on 10/06/2008, -1/+16Dugg for Pong.
- zyklon, on 10/06/2008, -0/+12And the shame that was ET on Atari.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9Buried as inaccurate if they do not have ingame bots created to preserve the rampant ***** of modern massive multiplayer.
- thespanielator, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8is this because there's an asteroid coming?
- moneyswears, on 10/06/2008, -1/+9Ironically, most of the people involved in said archive will have had no part in creating future generations.
- inactive, on 10/06/2008, -3/+11this is a great idea i still have my old nintendo and super nintendo, original mario kart is awesome
- Zeroxysm, on 10/06/2008, -0/+7Yeah, because that's the REAL thing.
People can build cars that look like old cars, but they're not really the old car, now are they? - MakoMantis, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7Every 40 year old dungeon master who's been hoarding his systems (and others via [friends?] or ebay) for the past 35 has this already though ...
- tdelamater, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6So future generations can marvel at our 8bit accomplishments.
- jonshipman, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5I shed a tear.
- Asianwaste, on 10/06/2008, -3/+7There already is a worldwide videogame archive: It's called pirate emulation roms.
- sk11, on 10/06/2008, -1/+5We can finally rest easy.
- jasongbc, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3Will they be storing all the non-family games as well? I could see games like Manhunter being left out of the collection.
- AtheismFTW, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Pug for Dong.
(fair trade) - SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2@Phalanxia:
Uh, Free Radical? Rockstar (British-founded)?
Anyway, why would they get a favorable spot just for being British. You should know ***** like that typically only happens in the U.S. and communist states. - frampo4, on 10/06/2008, -1/+3I can imagine going there in 60 years and thinking.... *sigh* god bless the sega megadrive.
- plingboot, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Read it. It'll be part of the national media museum in bradford UK.
- Harabeck, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Rare's had some gems, but pride of place among all other developers?
- ncc74656m, on 10/06/2008, -1/+3This takes on a whole new meaning after last night's South Park, when Cartman cryogenically froze himself trying to wait three weeks for the Wii, and wound up frozen for 500 years, where no Wii existed.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Don't worry, I'm sure we still have the training simulators in case of that emergency. Its right next to information on how to defeat space invaders.
- Asianwaste, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Japan has no appraising value for old games. You can go to just about any game or DVD store and find tons of old Famicom, Mega Drive, portable carts for dirt cheap. I'm talking in the Y100-Y500 range.
- Garofoli, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Smart.
- Langford, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1I get a mental image of a large stuffy building, with a line of people waiting to get in who have pockets full of quarters.
- craighoxton, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1I hope they include Elite, GoldenEye 64 and Chuckie Egg in there.
- unitedkronos, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1I'll be at GameCity this year and I'm looking forward to seeing what the NVA will be like, this is something I really want to be involved with.
- Zap2, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Hopefully they get some ROMs in there, so all games can stand the test of time.
- weegee101, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Yes, but this means that now Videogame History has hit a point where it is a even slightly respected topic in the history area. Its one thing when Joe Blow has a museum in the back of his house, its a totally other thing when a Country (or even just a State/Province) actually charters a museum to the topic. This is really huge, and means that in 10 or 15 years time we may even be able to find books on the topic.
- WiiNode, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0The Odyssey, Pong, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Odyssey^2, Colecovision, Bally's Astrocade, Imagination Machine, Vectrex, and a whole host of other video game machines were around long before the Famicom was a twinkle in Gunpei's eye. Video Games were an American invention that Japan ended up being very well adapted to. (Believe it or not, Sega was a Hawiian company founded by Americans who moved it to Japan!)
Britain's role in video game history was very rich itself, but was mostly centered around the period after the market crash, but before Nintendo and Sega dominated the markets. Quite a few British kids became famous for developing games for home computers. These games were sold on the cheap, but they made their young creators massive amounts of money from around the world. It was this rich history and inheritance that lead to excellent British game companies like Rare. - cfrog7, on 10/06/2008, -2/+2good first steps. I'm pretty excited for the video game museum, except it will probably be built in dubai or something.
also Carnegie Mellon started a games innovation database

http://www.videogamerdaily.com/ - Phalanxia, on 10/06/2008, -1/+1It's probably the most famous British developer, along with Bullfrog and Creative Assembly.
- scabbers, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1Emulators are the real museum.
- obama4prez, on 10/06/2008, -4/+3JESUS DID IT
- Phalanxia, on 10/06/2008, -2/+1I'm just surprised it wasn't the Japanese. I'll also bet Rare will have pride of place.
- aserer511, on 10/06/2008, -4/+2once again, US beat to the bunch
- Simssega, on 10/07/2008, -4/+0I knew the UK would find their calling eventually.

Anyway I think we need more video game museums across the nation. - jnuffnuffnomnom, on 10/06/2008, -7/+1needs more bird
- agaiziunas, on 10/06/2008, -9/+3Guess they haven't heard of the Wii Virtual Console ;-)
