- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I am looking forward to the Demo Channel. Hopefully that would come about soon.
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Those are some great ideas, and I really like the "mock-ups" that they have created. I am really hoping for some new, innovative channels. I really like the idea of the demo channel, or at least something like XBLA for that matter. :)
- Bigbro69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the idea of a pizza delivery channel partnered with like, Dominos, would be awesome. Having the mates sit around and pick pizzas (multiple wii-motes of course) and placing an order through the Wii...
- sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why partner with the worst pizza out there? There are so many better choices than Dominos.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That THEY created? IGN had nothing to do with those mockups. Matt posted on the Wii boards asking for "photoshop experts" to create channel mockups. He used what he could find.
- zouden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The XBMC guys should make a Media Centre for the Wii. They could even sell it (for like $20) from the shop channel. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
- TheRuralJuror, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Cyber_Akuma
Yeah, but for those that just want to stream pictures and mp3s from their computer, the Wii should be able to handle that, right? - abcdefghij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2broadband pr0n click-n-watch!
- Cubedude04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats great i would use the demo channel
- jutl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think IGN are being a little naive about how difficult it would be for Nintendo to obtain worldwide movie screening data and globally relevant sports reporting (from cricket to khabadi via the at least three forms of football). Even if they could source it all, they then have to pay to license it for a large number of consoles with no ongoing charge to those console owners. With the Wii already flying off shelves I can't see any reason for them to increase their cost per unit that way.
- humblepatience, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Did anyone else think WiiPorn?
- latca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm looking forward to a Wii IPTV channel. On demand streaming of TV shows, movies, or maybe even Nintendo created video content. Think of all the Wii points wasted/spent renting movies.
- J1X1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it really necessary to have all of these channels? Almost all of them could be accessed by using the web browser and some bookmarks.
- seinman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wii also has two USB ports. It isn't supported now, but i'm sure that if someone had a viable media center solution that would make Nintendo enough money, they'd release a firmware update that would enable external hard drive support.
- jpbleuu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3papa johns pizza is delicious, although i would take a pizza from a local pizza shop over a chain resturant any day.
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2because Domino's pizza is everywhere. i suppose pizza hut may have similar market saturation, but for the love of all that is holy, if anyone recommends that *****-in-a-box that is papa john's I will personally deck them.
"Papa John's: Its not easy to ***** up a pizza, but by god, we're trying!™" seriously, what the hell is up with their sauce?! tastes like they mix maple syrup in with it! - bennybertow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I also wonder, whether a game like Pokémon Battle Revolution, which will feature the DS for input, might send that "input screen" to the DS as a demo - so that users who don't own the Pokémon DS Games still could use their DS for input.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The problem with that is that the Wii has a very small amount of internal storage, and SD cards are nowhere near as cheap or large as a harddrive. Not to mention some cards above 2GB don't work in many devices. The Wii lacks the storage to be a decent media hub, small videos and clips would work, but not full-scale movies and an entertanment center.
- Trams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Movie times would be a big hit for sure. I think IGN is on to something there.
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Cute little mock-ups, but sadly they are just that: Mock-Ups. I can think all day about the cool things that one could do with the Wii, but unless Nintendo actually implements them it really doesn't matter at all. I mean network play for VC games would be extremely cool and great and not even that hard to implement as demonstrated by numerous emulators, but VC games as provided by Nintendo means plain ROM dumps, no additional content, high cost, sometimes even bugs and no network play. Imagination clashing with reality in a bad way.
I for one am waiting for Nintendo to actually deliver instead of wasting to much time into what could/might/should be happening, but most likely never will. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I agree, good mock-ups.
Usually I find this kind of stuff stupid... like, wasted time. but they've got good ideas... - LMN8R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@SleepJunkie - in the article he gives plenty of credit to those message board users who created the mock-ups. He says it in the article a couple times and in each picture caption as well.
@jutl - Seeing as there are so many web sites to get movie times from, I don't see it as being any more difficult as polling a database and formatting the results nicely. If it means that Nintendo needs to make a deal with Moviefone or something, so be it.
These are cool mock-ups. Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn't know what they're doing when it comes to online. Non-universal friend codes, a "weather channel" that updates once every 4-5 hours, and a news channel that's cool-looking but hardly worth using. Their "Wii connect 24" is a stupid name considering that no, you're not connected 24 hours a day. Why do I need to take a minute to connect to the internet every time I want to do anything with the Wii online?
If Nintendo had any sense at all, they'd hire these mock-up artists in a second. - thepotatoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the sports channel should have a sports ticker with updating scores. I'm sure EA would love to implement it into their sports games and I think that would be sweet. Of course weather or not they could implement it or not is another story and yes what about the cross-nation differences and times when there are no sports going on at all.
- clempka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What would be amazing is if they issued a firmware update that was a scripting framework for user-created channels. Then, people who know what they're doing could write up and design their own channels and other people could use them. Kinda like the Google Gadgets/Widgets/whatever they call them.
Badassity at its finest. - sphetr2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Orb with Wii streaming works great.
Also try Red Kawak's (sp?) Wii Media Center - Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd personally like to see a Digg channel, a Nintendo Power channel, Movie Times channel, Pizza/TakeOut channel, DS Demo Channel, and Wii Live Arcade
- gungaroo22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that holding the wiimote flat in your hand is uncomfortable. Mine is almost always at an angle, unless I am playing a game.
- thefaithful, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm amazed a DS demo download channel wasn't one of the first things they brought out.
- mikebot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could argue that you can use the browser to look up news and weather. If they're going to add more channels (and I hope they do - if anything it makes the Wii more accessible) they should incorporate some added features outside of regular browsing, like the aforementioned Weather and News Channels' globes.
- chicaneuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Bigbro69
Definately! We've already gone part of the way there - on a recent evening of Wii gaming we stopped the games to fire up the web browser and look for pizza's but on a fairly modest TV its a bit of a challenge navigating the Domino's site. An integrated Domino's (or other!) pizza ordering channel with more correctly size text / buttons would be just brilliant! - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not bad, they look fairly real too compared to the other channels we have seen.... most of them.
The stocks channel looked very much like a channel youd expect on the Wii, except that the line on the graph seemed a little too thin. Don't forget that most TVs a Wii woudl be hooked up to are SDTVs, that line would be fairly hard to make out on those. (I guess I shoudlent be surprised that its showing Apple stock).
The movie search channel looks a little out there, theres quite a bit of wasted space for that film hole graphic on each side, and the buttons are kinda unlike other channels we have seen, its overall not bad but dosent look that much like channel, the graphics just look a little too different from the rest of stuff we have seen on the Wii.
The Movie Trailers channel is a little dark/brownish, but other than that it looks spot-on like what a Wii channel would look like.
Demo Channel, pretty accurate, though its only showing the first screen before you actually start the channel, but its a little empty. The only channel I have seen thats empty like that (after the channel has actually been started) is the beta Internet channel, almost all the others have some sort of animation or graphic other than just text.
The sports channel however looks absolutely nothing at all like a Wii channel. We already have sports news from the News channel, but beyond that, the interface looks nothing even close to what youd expect to see on a Wii channel. The top/bottom border buttons are not there, the colors and general layout of the interface looks all wrong, and the buttons placement as well as appearance is nothing like what we have currently seen in a Wii channel's buttons.
BTW, why do all the screenshots show the cursor tilted at almost the exact same angle? The cursor is usually pointing straight up unless you are tilting your hand at an uncomfortable position. - maglob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Probably will offer loads of new channels.......for a fee
- Chode2235, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, Papa John's is awesome. I eat it all the time and love it. I recommend it to anyone looking for some great pizza. It is especially good while gaming on the wii.
- SupaJay, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3and Of course, you need to do a Digg Motion with wiimote when you want to digg an article.
- SupaJay, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Dwiigg Channel Please.

What is Digg?
