- mrgodai, on 08/19/2008, -10/+86why is Bioshock even on the "This Fall" list? I know it's coming out for PS3, but the game is out for a year already on PC and Xbox360
- Gimjee, on 08/20/2008, -0/+44Dugg for fear factor on Silent Hill: Homecoming being 4 stars of Hannah Montana.
- Daxx22, on 08/19/2008, -1/+38Jesus, the thumbnail scares me.
- a1cd, on 08/20/2008, -0/+35Ghostbusters is not scary.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -2/+29I don't really know why, but games have a VERY hard time scaring me. Everybody says Doom 3 was the really scary *****, but the game that frightened me the most was STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and I was only unnerved during the underground portions.
However, I'm a complete pussy when it comes to horror movies... I have no idea why.
Still, Left 4 Dead and Dead Space are looking really awesome and I'm going to get them on release day. Project Origin looks pretty good too; I enjoyed FEAR quite a bit (slow-mo rocked). - 1oneWON, on 08/19/2008, -1/+23There are a lot of games on this list I hadn't heard of like The Last Guy and Project Origin. I'm also glad to see a new Fatal Frame because those games scared the hell out of me.
My two biggest releases from the horror genre are definitely Left 4 Dead and Dead Space. I've seen videos on both and read countless previews and they both sound great.
I love how Left 4 Dead recreates all of these campy movies that you play though. It's just so awesome. - mywhitenoise, on 08/20/2008, -1/+22Because they needed 8, even though The Last Guy and Ghostbusters don't belong on that list either.
This should really be titled "The Only 5 Scary Games Coming Out This Fall". - LMN8R, on 08/20/2008, -0/+21-1 for skipping STALKER: Clear Sky. Shadow of Chernobyl *DEFINES* the word "atmospheric" when it comes to games - nothing else has even come close. The Brain Scorcher area and Controller enemy are simply unmatched.
- PGvildys, on 08/20/2008, -1/+20Buried for "With Halloween around the corner"... it's the middle of August!!!
- LMN8R, on 08/20/2008, -0/+16Definitely. STALKER was one of the scariest, most atmospheric games I've ever played, and Clear Sky this year looks to repeat the trend. -1 for this list for skipping Clear Sky.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+13scariest game ever: system shock 2
- faceless323, on 08/20/2008, -0/+13F.E.A.R. was an awesome game. I am really looking forward to Project Origin.
- rhesusattack, on 08/20/2008, -0/+12I wonder why Fatal Frame only got two stars? The first one scared me so bad that I refused to play it at night.
- effoffpunk, on 08/19/2008, -0/+10Thats what I'm looking forward to in Left 4 Dead. "HOLY ***** THEYRE COMING THROUGH! OH NO I'M OUT OF AMMO!"
- mnemy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9I was going to say the same thing. That's the only horror game that I just couldn't handle. Silent Hill 2 & 3 scared the crap out of me, but I had to literally put down the controller when playing Fatal Frame 1 and walk away.
Doesn't help that my cat had a fetish with the curtains at the time. Imagine playing Fatal Frame with all the lights out at night, edgy as hell trying to anticipate the next ***** up thing the game threw at you, then out of the corner of your eyes the curtains fluff out and make a ***** load of noise. Almost killed that damned cat. - The2ndAct, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9Twinkle twinkle little star.
*shudder* - Asvetic, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8Boy, the quality of those videos was scary.
- skipdog172, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7Do you mean the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?
- Frozo, on 08/20/2008, -2/+9The 8 scariest games for fall? You mean there are MORE than 8?? Give me a break with these meaningless lists already.
- lsloany, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6You'll never forget that first bloodsucker.
- sexybobo, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6It is made by valve so it will be great. Might not be out until next fall but it will be great.
Also how could you not have heard about it before people on digg have been raving about it for the last year. - MalDON, on 08/20/2008, -2/+8That's when I stopped reading.
- luke16, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Unless it has the libary ghost. That gave me nightmares as a child...
- kolyana, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7Left 4 Dead - yes baby. I didn't know about this one, but anything with Zombies in it has to be worth a good looksee.
- klitzbtc, on 08/20/2008, -4/+9The only thing scary about Bioshock was the ***** price tag, and the horrible authentication system.
- 0tis, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Fatal Frame... Wii? Fatal Frame. Wii.
Dugg. - krd1979, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I'm sure it's just personal opinion but I find that videogames can be a lot scarier than movies, because you are more immersed in the experience and it feels like it's happening to you more than a character in a movie.
- Dundasbro, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Or how about all the ***** bloodsuckers, ***** come out at night. Oh and those strange things that mess with your head, I got the ***** scared out of me when my vision started ***** around from those things.
- CompUComp, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Yea... lol. Who's the idiot that said Ghostbusters? :p
- isunktheship, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4yeah what the hell game is that? I want to play it!!
- mnemy, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Doom 3 scary? I'll admit that having monsters pop up behind you every 20 yds startled me at first... but it's definitely not a scary game. Play Fatal Frame 1 and Silent Hill 2 & 3. Now those were *****-your-pants scary games.
- MrFisty, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4I had braces like that back in school.
- mywhitenoise, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Pussy.
- bagboyrebel, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Silent Hill is still one of the scariest video game series that I have ever played.
- JParsons4, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4F.E.A.R. was awesome. Aside from the story it seemed to be the first game to get fps done right, and the AI was smarter than I am.
- mattwalton56, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3It's from Dead Space. http://www.gamesradar.com/f/6-things-you-didnt-kno ...
I hadn't realized just how scary this game looks. O.o - Pegritz, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3I cannot--CANNOT--wait for Ghostbusers and Dead Space. Goddamn, those are gonna be fun!
- bagboyrebel, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3I prefer to think of Silent Hill: Homecoming as the fourth installment, The Room didn't even start as a Silent Hill game and was absolutely terrible compared to the rest. I actually cracked up in the hospital level of 4 when an empty wheelchair attacked me by running into me, horror games shouldn't make you laugh like that.
- Jhiaxuz, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4Who would have thought Twinkle Twinkle Little Star would have made a game seem that much more creepy?
Also the mandatory L4D will kick ass!
"Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills! The people it kills get up and kill! " - sandersdamnit, on 08/20/2008, -2/+5dugg for ecto-*****-cooler
- Asvetic, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3I was surprised Left 4 Dead and Dead Space only got 3 stars. While Silent Hill:Homecomings was the only one to get 4.
I know it's a scary series, but I'm betting the other 2 will have more "oh ***** god, what the hell was that" moments built in along side the already "I'm crapping my pants and shooting at the same time" moments.
Course, Silent Hill will definitely have those "what was the sound, why did the lights go out, oh *****, oh *****, oh *****..." moments. - phorty40, on 08/20/2008, -2/+5the thumbnail looks like a deleted scene from The Thing
- ap1983, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Why spend a couple of hundred dollars in gas? Just invest in a consoloe and Dead Space and you probably won't have a reason to leave at all
- lostformat1125, on 08/21/2008, -1/+4Horror Movies arent scary...they are just movies....*****!
- liah, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Fatal Frame is one of the most underrated horror game series ever. I don't scare easily, but this series did unnerve me quite a few times. I'd recommend it to anyone, and I'm really happy they're coming out with a new one.
- ran24, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2I'm opposite. Scary movies don't freak me out at all, I've watched them often enough to know when a scary thing will happen. But games can still scare me because I'm controlling the character, and he's in a way, me, and so I give a ***** about what happens to him. Horror movie main characters are usually very forgettable and you don't care about them.
- bloominoctober, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2I'm already stocking up on rubber pants for Dead Space.
- JollyDumple, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Stalker scared the hell out of me at certain points... once I was looting a building on a dark and stormy night, when I heard shouts, gunshots and the barks of a pack of mutant dogs. Then the shouts and gunshots stopped. I was on the roof then, and i heard growling below me. I stayed up there until morning (in game) then later found a whole bunch of dead bandits where the noises had been coming from. Then I heard barking again. I love that game.
- bagboyrebel, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2I don't care what anyone says, Doom 3 wasn't even close to being scary. Sure, the first few times something pops out I jumped, but that was about it. It's an action game in the dark, not a horror game.
