- alex7575, on 05/13/2009, -0/+22*****! I'm getting old...
- Yousty, on 05/13/2009, -0/+21NFL Blitz was awesome! I remember spending hours playing that game with my friends in an arcade and then later on the N64.
- CoD4, on 05/13/2009, -0/+21EGM > Gamepro
- maxvette, on 05/12/2009, -0/+19I still own all 5 of these
- stiflsun, on 05/13/2009, -3/+20the castlevania on wasn't all that bad.
- TheMangler, on 05/13/2009, -0/+10The #1 cover is frightening...
- lofilotek, on 05/13/2009, -0/+10I used to be an avid game pro reader, I am surprised they narrowed it to 5. There are a crap ton to choose from.
- aspec, on 05/13/2009, -0/+10At least they gave up on the terrible names. Like Scary Larry.
- texnite, on 05/12/2009, -4/+13"Blow Your Mind on Our Holiday Issue!" Or blow your load on his forehead.
- strictnein, on 05/13/2009, -2/+10Screw digg links, or whatever the hell they're called. Screw all link shortening services, unless you're twittering. And, to finish it off, screw twitter.
I want to see where the heck I'm going to end up if I click on a link. - themastersb, on 05/13/2009, -0/+7They might be worth $1 some day
- Allivian, on 05/13/2009, -2/+9GamePro should have bit the bullet in place of EGM. GamePro is just a video game journalism all time low. =/
- jetmax25, on 05/13/2009, -1/+7***** game pro SMB3 isn't in the top 20 platformers. It shouldnt be excluded from the top 3
- elishagrey, on 05/13/2009, -0/+5Diggbar Fail.
Here it is: http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/210118/the ...
The Sabertooth/Wolverine one is ***** terrible! - Namco, on 05/13/2009, -0/+5They had the big glossy pages with big screenshots. All the kids preferred looking at those big images in lieu of actual reading. That and the fact that they used excited faces as their review system instead of stars or numbers.
- Namco, on 05/13/2009, -1/+5@euphoria860: You're dyslexic with a capital C. Try reading the year again.
- maxvette, on 05/13/2009, -0/+3Join us or be deleted
- Rapter09, on 05/13/2009, -0/+3I'll raise a glass to all the dead game rags.
And I'll raise two glasses to the diminishment of the survivors in the industry; Mainly PCG - watching it go from essentially reading a small novel every month to reading what content amounts to little more than a pamphlet with lots of pictures. Then there were the GOTY or Anniversary editions which were so thick you could call them a book.
Anyone remember PCXL? Heh. - sandersdamnit, on 05/13/2009, -0/+3looks like some one shot The Rock under his ear.
- JGang05, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2WTF is up with all the adds all over the cover pictures?
- alphonse221, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2Gamepro FTL
- specialknfnd, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2#1 is at the bottom of the list
- AquaOSX, on 05/13/2009, -3/+5I would argue that several of their "best" covers aren't much better:
http://digg.com/d1r2Qb - Lasereth, on 05/13/2009, -1/+3Ha ha ha I have 2 or 3 of these still.
BTW Game Informer is the best gaming magazine out right now. I used to get EGM and GI but now it's down to a sad 1 mag a month. :( - uberchaoslord, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2Gamepro's site looks terrible in Firefox. Fail at internet standards.
- TheDigitalBug, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2Oh man. PCXL was the greatest. Got sweet memories from it including my favorite when they locked up one of their employees and made him play horrible games.
- nugz85, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2especially when it came to the covers. gamepro's covers have add, trying to show a million things at once.
- Browzer, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2The early Gamepro covers were all pretty bad looking. They were usually original art and did not relate to the games at all.
- FrequencyX, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2Castlevania Symphony of the Night was a badass game
- Monotonousblob, on 05/13/2009, -0/+2GamePro has always had a problem with throwing almost every story on the cover. It makes it feel cluttered and unprofessional. The rest of the magazine doesn't really help in that regard. I would say almost any recent cover of EGM (RIP) or Game Informer do a much better job at grabbing the readers attention than GamePro's best. Even less read magazines such as Play or Edge go a better job.
- slimkevi, on 05/13/2009, -1/+2nerd
- Elranzer, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1At least they got Super Mario 64 right (but I'd say Super Mario World was still the best Mario game).
If they wanted to make an accurate "Top 20 platformers" list, it would include all of the Mario games, the Genesis Sonic games, the NES/SNES Mega Man games, and Rachet & Clank would be nowhere to be found. - awtripp, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1The fact that the game was amazing helps when looking back at it, too.
- Elranzer, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1GamePro sucks. I'll write a much better "Top 20 Platformers of All Time" list right now:
20. Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast)
19. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (NES)
18. Mega Man V (GB)
17. Mega Man 7 (SNES)
16. Kirby's Super Star (SNES)
15. Mega Man (NES)
14. Wario Land (GB)
13. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Knuckles (Gen)
12. Super Mario Land (GB)
11. Mega Man 3 (NES)
10. Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen)
09. Mega Man X (SNES)
08. Mega Man 2 (NES)
07. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)
06. Kirby's Adventure (NES)
05. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Gen)
04. Super Mario Bros. (NES)
03. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
02. Super Mario 64 (N64)
01. Super Mario World (SNES) - LimeParrot, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1I dugg it because it's written by GamePro... paying out GamePro!
- ghostofpanty, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1LOL wow your a sicko for saying that but i guess it does look like some giant sperm swimming on his forehead
- tzmguitarist, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1#1 was my first Gamepro ever and I got it on the same Christmas that I received my NES; so to me it's a bit nostalgic
- ahhell, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1***** Gamepro. That mag is such a biased piece of *****.
I'm glad I stopped buying it years ago. - KSUdesigner, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1Other than using generic characters, the cover design of that one is not bad at all.
- Rethcir, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1The illustrator guy sucked.. every character had the exact same constipated looking face.
Gamepro was pretty sweet for a while. I remember at its height in the early 90's an issue that was probably 3/4 of an inch thick. I didn't subscribe but I would always go to the book store and write down the cheats when the new issue came out. - Wargasmic, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1Looks like giant sperm crawling under his skin. Intense.
- raza7370, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1nice gameing
- megaton, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1I really like that one. It's goofy, but it's not "bad." And certainly not bad like that NFL Blitz cover, which is REALLY bad...
- ogleby, on 05/15/2009, -0/+1My little brothers had a subscription to gamepro for a few years. The first thing I'll always remember is how horribly cheesy and amateurish the covers always were. The second thing I'll always remember is how horribly cheesy and amateurish everything inside was.
- misskari, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1Their horrible staff illustrator never did any covers?
- chiptricky, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1I own 3/5. Love me some GamePro's.
- FordSVT1, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1When I read this headline, the first thing that popped into my mind was #1. Glad their memories are longer than most people's on the net. And yeah, GamePro has always been kind of *****, compared to the likes of EGM and such that is.
Oh, and Next Generation mag was the best, most pro print magazine ever. Had a great online forum too. Too bad it only lasted a few years.... still have every issue in a box somewhere. - Rapter09, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1... or the time they loaded up one of the levels from the original release of SiN and used WorldCraft or something to get inside the room where the villaness was bathing in a hottub - naked - and get pixellated, untextured screengrabs of the model's sizable melons. Just because she was "The hot big-titted chick from SiN"
ooh lala. - DarthVolta, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1Throwing the hail mary or the post every single play...
- maxvette, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1yeah. But the old gamepros were also 5 times as thick.
