- CanadianCheese, on 06/17/2009, -1/+70I'm pretty sure the 'L' Block is more recognizable then the 'T'
- Vibratic, on 06/16/2009, -4/+71Thank god, it's all on one page.

- Haoie, on 06/17/2009, -0/+37During the 90s, apparently a survey found that more children recognised Mario than Mickey Mouse.
Wonder if that still applies. - inactive, on 06/17/2009, -1/+34***** the T block. l is where it's at!

- jwlennon12880, on 06/17/2009, -1/+24feels like he just took 5 off the top of his head without doing any real research
- Mittens27, on 06/17/2009, -0/+22Is this just for cheap diggs?
- h3xZ, on 06/17/2009, -1/+18Sonic is like a cheap whore now.
- Spamcan, on 06/17/2009, -0/+16Why wouldn't it? It's not like Disney is releasing new Mickey Mouse cartoons all the time, I've seen a few animated shorts attached to other films but only with Goofy. Mario is always in your face, even though the main franchise only gets a new title every few years there are Mario-sports coming at at a regular basis as a constant reminder of the pudgy plumber. The DS also appears to be the platform of choice for young kids these days, I'd be shocked if more of them knew Mickey then Mario.
- TheEggAndI, on 06/17/2009, -0/+16friends, friends. we must put aside these squabbles. let us all come together and agree that the _|¯ block is a pain in the ass
- CynicalTyler, on 06/17/2009, -0/+15***** THE _|¯ BLOCK!
- indubitably, on 06/17/2009, -4/+19your caps lock must have malfunctioned. L is truly where it's at.
- Nicoon, on 06/17/2009, -1/+14It's "WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA"
- ManUnitdFan, on 06/17/2009, -0/+12Icon - noun - An important and enduring symbol.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/icon - lex0nyc, on 06/17/2009, -0/+12Why did we need a list of these?
- BiggMat, on 06/17/2009, -1/+13This one is actually a Top 5
- firesights, on 06/17/2009, -1/+11That's one of the "New Wonders of Gaming".
These are the old, like the Giza pyramids. - CaptHuggyFace, on 06/17/2009, -0/+10I don't think the lone Space Invader should have made the list. They are only recognizable as a group.
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/17/2009, -1/+9Agreed. My first thought when I saw the list (and the fact that they put the NES controller in their and not the Atari 2600 controller, which to me is much more recognizable) was, "Who did they survey?".
The title should be, "The 5 most recognizable gaming icons ever...according to this blogger!" - adasha, on 06/17/2009, -0/+8╚╗

http://www.hulu.com/watch/50544/futurama-invaders- ... - jeremymccurdy, on 06/17/2009, -2/+9Not everyone would recognize something from Half-Life.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -1/+8@blackinthmiddle: Over twice as many NES units have been sold than Atari units. The NES controller is much more recognizable and less obscure.
- Herffinator, on 06/17/2009, -4/+11What about sonic?
- Barr08, on 06/17/2009, -1/+8The Nike logo is called the swoosh, not the tick
- NathanielJ, on 06/17/2009, -0/+6Just like every other video game list that somehow gets front paged here.
- JillyMichelle, on 06/17/2009, -0/+6I'm biased but agree with your #1 icon. Unrelated but just wanted to add that the video arcade needs to make a comeback. I know people like playing at home, but I remember taking a roll of quarters and spending hours playing games at my neighborhood arcade.
- strictnein, on 06/17/2009, -1/+7@Spamcan:
"I don't have kids (thank ***** god)"
Spoken like someone who has no idea what they're talking about. - danwallace, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6Because anyone suggesting Master Chief is more of a gaming icon than Pac Man is a joke.
- anthropodeus, on 06/17/2009, -0/+5Yeah. You should stop being work sucks.
- sageerrant, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6L block is totally the king of blocks.
- spect3r, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6http://libsyn.com/images/wired/Lambda.gif
- balazone, on 06/17/2009, -1/+55. Nes Controller
4. The Space Invader
3. The T shaped Tetris block
2. Mario

- NovaPrime9, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4do you have kids? The Disney Channel really pushes the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show. It's a 3d animated show- and honestly not too bad. My kids love it.
that said... they MUCH prefer anything Mario. Hell, my three kids dressed as Mario, Peach and Toadette for Halloween last year. So, while Disney might be trying (half-trying, anyway), it's nowhere near hard enough. - danwallace, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4You're full of *****.
- jezsik, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Probably, but I'm hard pressed to come up with five alternatives.
- zaprowsdower, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4That was just about the only good thing about the article.
- dacunni1, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Can someone just post the list here? Gaming sites are blocked at my work :-(
- TwistyMcFister, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Fozzy Bear?
- Bloodwine, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4@ the younglings spouting, "Master Chief":
Master Chief isn't an instantly recognizable icon. No more than Samus Aran, Sonic, Solid Snake, or a host of other popular game characters. They are popular, but not instantly recognizable icons by a large swath of the population.
Compared to Mario, where everybody from preteens to grandmas recognizes him. - pileopooh, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Only reason Dugg
- Bloodwine, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3name some of the more recent, memorable icons then!
yes there are some great games today, but I am having trouble thinking of iconic figures that stand out and are instantly recognizable to most people in a crowd. - nerdzero, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3He forgot Donkey Kong.
- anthropodeus, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4mario, pacman, and tetris are still moderately popular. but space invaders and NES? what is this, 1990?
- firesights, on 06/17/2009, -2/+5Nice fail with the wrong "icon". This isn't about the world of computers.
