- DarkAleX, on 10/18/2007, -5/+34Hi there
- DsLiteRulez, on 10/18/2007, -3/+23Dark_Alex has also confirmed that he is the M33 team and has told MaxConsole exclusively he decided to reveal his secret identity because it is one of his last releases as he has gone as far as possible with PSP custom firmware. The URL includes the full details and his official release thread.
- DTJunkie07, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Thank you
- mattym, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11This is not good news. It was sad to see DA go, but M33 brought hope of future custom firmwares...kind of sad to think there's nobody else out there that can do custom firmware at this level.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Thank you so much for all the work you have done.
- ghostENVY, on 10/13/2007, -2/+10Damn , You will always be remembered D_A a True PSP hero.
- brakken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yeah, a lot of people knew Dark_Alex was in M33 for a while now ....
- anarchytv, on 10/13/2007, -1/+6He's probably quitting because not a damn bit of the homebrew community ever got together and raised some money for these guys that do this sort of thing. I mean seriously, people are total *****... we benefit from these custom firmwares, we should be donating some small amount at least as a token of our appreciation. If people know what they are doing is being appreciated, they keep doing it. He probalby hasn't made a dime off of all his hard work of hacking firmwares, so yeah, I'd say F you people to and be through with it. Even if I was king of the hill and the master of it.
- dexrrr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6this is bad. the fact that no-one else can produce custom firmware has been proven over the last couple of months. I hope he doesn't leave...
- pakkman781, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Funny how he released it on Maxconsole first, huh? He's kinda a mod there and posted the first thread with it attached on the MC forums. How about that?
- Zoids, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Dark_AleX is/was team M33, so did he ever really leave to begin with? Kudos to him though, nice work!
- Zoids, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Team Wildcard also produced a CFW if I remember correctly...
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7It's all for nothing if he keeps saying it's the last release though. Props for doing it, but if the team (or him, or whatever) can't commit and keep throwing hissy fits and saying "that's it, we don't like you guys, no more" then why bother following them.
The main reason I've never donated is because I was late to the scene and all of this ***** was going on. I can't see why I'd bother with homebrew now, it'll be useless in several weeks time when a new games comes out we all want that requires a frimware we can't get, cause they've chucked another wobbly and give up, again.
Act like a professional developer and make solid releases without all of this BS drama queen crap and I'll provide you with a steady steam of donations for each release. Act like a spoilt child and I'll ignore you. Simply as that really. - uncommonsmoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The thing was Dark_Alex was the best. No one bothered to compete or worry about the latest fw, DA had it covered. Seeing him go will show that we have a lot of catching up to do on the fw end.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't know why you are digging me down, but whatever.
Just be warned, if you upgrade, you are gonna need a pardora battery to go back to any other custom firmware. - fooooofooooooo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3haha! DAX=M33
Nice one! - MalumEnSe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I would too if I was getting some cash in my pocket for doing so.
- DsLiteRulez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Dark_Alex released on MaxConsole forums, is a forum moderator at MaxConsole and actually digged this news item.
- Deathshead1941, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Sony should give Dark Alex kickbacks for all the hardware He has sold for them, and for how many people blew the dust off there psp's and picked them back up.
- craterburnsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you hold R to get to the config menu when starting up you don't. You can go to the option to run a "recovery" eboot, which can just be a 1.5 update.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Genesis Emulator does not work, SNES emulator does not work, pandora creator does not work, psp infared does not work
Now I can't downgrade till I meet up with one of my friends and get their 3.40 OE psp to make me one.
CFW 3.71 is kinda junk - KingGoonie, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2and then the lawsuits from sony would have about 10000000 more backing because they are profiting off it... and it will be alot worse...
- pakkman781, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3y halo thar! :D
Thanks D_A! But, what happened to your _? - techknight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My bad - from the dugg maxconsole link and the dcemu link posted below it all I saw were the attachments requiring a login. Looking again at the maxconsole link there is a forum post linked to it with the official website.
- PhreakAccident, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Kudos on another fine release. The only reason I even bought my PSP was because a friend of mine had told me about custom firmwares and all the neat stuff you can do with them. I wish I had even a drop of the talent the people in the CFW devs have. Thanks to them we have Pandora and a continually improved CFW!
- blankoboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Question, can the PSP Slim (PSP-2000) be flashed with this firmware?
- radman, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1True, there are a number of homebrew emulators that are incompatible with a PSP Slim running the latest modified firmware. Check out pspslimhomebrew.com which maintains a compatibility list: http://tinyurl.com/23ckgs
- josephblanx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There will be a 1.5 kernel patch that will fix the plugins and homebrew problem soon... but true with the pandora for downgrading past 3.6.
- EXTER, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just have to wait till plugins are ported to 3.71M33
- x3sphere, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Or, just go to the official websites at http://dark-alex.org or http://m-33.narod.ru
- Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is great, but its a shame that he is stopping (well maybe, considering his history) after this release, since there are still some features that are broken. I have a japanese UMD I would like to be able to watch, but the region free hack simply doesn't work.
- slaystench, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://m-33.narod.ru/
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you install this custom firmware on your PSP everything will remain largely the same, but it allows you to run unofficial programs from the memory stick, thus greatly expanding the capabilities of the system.
- KingGoonie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1But thats the problem at large isn't it... Everyone saying "haha stupid nood did a psp update!!!" I mean do those people realize how geeky they sound? Not all of us are very familiar with the firmware, and some discover it a little while after getting there psp, or even if part of the reason they get a psp is for the firmware, they don't know not to update it (like me) because well until I actually OWNED a psp I didn't really look into all the specifics of what you can and can't do, but rather got one off ebay, so did all the updates, then played the games that came with it for a bit and THEN said ok lets see about this homebrew... oh wait damn I shouldnt of updated.. So now I'm a "silly stupid noob idiot for updated oh well now deal with the no homebrew thing you loser! muahahahhaahahhahaaha"
Its like dude... get a life... people doing that sound like nerdy pimple faced losers. Just say "dude that sucks, yea you shouldn't have updated, hopefully they will be able to get homebrew for that version too, but if not" - Mystikal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Waiting for SWBF2 PSP...
- twylight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks DA - CFW makes the psp an epic win from what else is failure
- KingGoonie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1But is it an update from M33 3.51... meanting you already have to have the customs firmware... or is it a firmware that you can get even if you don't have one yet. I have official sony version 3.51, does this mean that I can not get M33 Customs firmware 3.71 without pandora's battery?
- unitedatheism, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1With this custom firmware you can run anything you like, like homebrews, emulators or image of games stored on a memory stick. Can also customize some things wich I don't know if the official firmware let you do, like disabling auto-run umd discs everytime you turn it on. You also get an extra screen-light power level with no additional cost!
- joeleslie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Recovery anyone? You've always been able to get back to 1.50 by just booting a 1.50 update or something from the recovery menu.
- joeleslie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You need a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. According to QJ.
- jockser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All i can say is that I'm a fan! this is a pleasant surprise, I'm glad you didn't retire ;)
- KingGoonie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Does this mean that if I have a psp version 3.51 (sony update, not the M33 or whatever it is) that I can now get customs firmware wihtout pandoras battery? It doesn't really provide much info for the more nooby of us...
- MalumEnSe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2That's because he's in their pocket getting $$$
- Apokalips1337, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i know im a total n00b by asking this and the fact that i own a psp doesnt help me much but what does this mean and what does it do?
- v0yeur, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1Fanjita @ fanjita.org always got my backing whenever a substantial release came out.
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. - nightstar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Nope.
- agony, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1works fine
- KingGoonie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Thank you... so basically this is a worthless thing unless you already have custom firmware. So anyone that has sony firmware 3.51 or above can just ignore this article. I don't see the big deal in this now... I mean its an update for people who already have homebrew. What about those who DON'T and don't want to go Pandora's battery route.. I did see something on the site that he is making downgraders?
- BonScott1BR, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1Dark_Alex is the MAN!!!!!! You are for sure a Super Hero, dude!!! Dark_Alex a.k.a. M33 Team is great!
