- fintheman, on 04/10/2008, -4/+57You mean you can own and enjoy more than one gaming console?
Who knew! - johnhummel, on 04/10/2008, -3/+24No - that's impossible! Only my console is the best, and all of the other consoles suck! Why? Sure, you could say that there are great games on any system - but don't you understand, my sense of self worth is *totally* tied into being part of the winning team! So if my console isn't winning, obviously it means that the people who aren't buying them are idiots - because heaven forbid that anyone have different interests or reasons than me!
That's why all Xbox owners are *****, all PS3 owners are fanboys, all Nintendo owners are children, all PC gamers are elitist *****, all Mac gamers *have* to *super* elitist ***** (who also only can play Starcraft, because the idea that there are other games on a Mac is impossible to me).
Obviously, if you don't have a Magnavox Odyssey like me with its cloned versions of Space Invaders, well, you're just l@m3. So there. Now, I'm going to go listen to my Carrie Underwood Complete Collection, because she must be the greatest singer ever since she won American Idol. - bigfinger, on 04/10/2008, -2/+15*****! every site and their mom is blocked here at work.
- frogman54, on 04/10/2008, -2/+13I've been saying this all along, but the fanboys always seem to rip me a new one. I like my PS3 and my 360. They sit on top of each other and have never committed an act of war toward one another. In fact, I think they might be doin' it when I'm away. Pretty soon I might have a little baby PS360. Adorable!
- Calcularius, on 04/10/2008, -5/+14Do you really think any console would be as good as it is without the competition?
Competition is *ALWAYS* good for the consumer.
Which means, dear Mr. Jack "AssFunnel" Sorenson, that the "battle" is relevant to everyone because it means better hardware and cheaper prices. Economics 101.
(that goes for the Mac vs PC crap, too.) - Opperior, on 04/10/2008, -3/+10In other words, you spent around $1500 to play 5 games you really like, plus a few others? Not everyone can afford $300 a game.
- forcedfx, on 04/10/2008, -2/+8Have you played COD4 yet? I bought a PS3 and 47" HDTV just to play that game. I'm insane.
- crossmr, on 04/10/2008, -0/+5here is a gold star.
- threepio, on 04/10/2008, -1/+6Exclusivity is fine when it uses the console's hardware to its advantage. The very best of games are usually exclusive because you're not writing for a lowest common denominator of making it work on very different hardware.
Specialization is good. Advocating multiplatform titles for everything is bad. Yes, you're going to have to buy more than one console - welcome to video games. - lukeev, on 04/10/2008, -0/+4Bastard.
- samfishercell, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5Well that's funny. That's almost the exact same phrasing I've used when describing THQ...although "videogame poison" also entered the vocabulary from time to time.
- stoanhart, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5And console gamers claim $1000 is too much to spend on a gaming PC, then go out and buy 3 consoles! lol
- wolferz, on 04/10/2008, -2/+6The mac is as close to being competition for the PC as your local computer shop is to being competition for Dell. In fact MS has gone to great lengths to keep Apple alive in the past just to create the appearance of competition. It helped them wiggle out of yet another anti-trust suit. IBM has had a pretty big stake in Apple sticking around. Also, people interested in mac are generally not wanting a mac so much as they DON'T want a PC. Their might be an occasional instance when people weigh the pros and cons of mac vs pc, but most people just buy a pc without even knowing what mac is.
Not dissing the mac by any means but this is the reality of it.
Now the console wars are a definite good thing, just like you say. - FireSlash, on 04/10/2008, -1/+5It's only irrelevant if you assume one of the following cases. (1) Publishers can easily port all of their games to all major consoles and/or PC (This is not the case) (2) Every person owns all major consoles (Not the case)
Due to these factors, publishers should care quite a bit. If the invest a lot of time on, say, a PS3 title, their sales might be impacted if that same title were instead a xbox 360 title. Moreover, if they choose the porting method, a lot of assets and code have to be re-written to work on each console. This is a massive waste of money either way (one in excess spending, the other in weak exposure). - inactive, on 04/10/2008, -1/+4they block proxy sites smart ass.
- nwoantibody, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3I read: THC Exec: Drug war is "Totally Irrelevant"
- Calcularius, on 04/10/2008, -0/+3Thank you for reminding me why I said "crap"
- rudy23, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2its relevant. to Sony, MS and Nintendo at the very least.
- steelclash84, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Run putty (freeware) using an SSH tunnel to your home PC hosting a CopSSH (freeware) service...
- munawarali2, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Less sales of the game, but more sales of the console...which is why the console companies demand it.
- Mier, on 04/10/2008, -3/+5I would just ask them to make some damn good games. I would also tell them that exclusivity deals just lead to less sales, so unless whichever platform is going to cover ALL costs of development, all games should be open.
- inactive, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2No one asked you.
- rodon, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Irrelevant to THQ. As long as a platform exists, THQ will keep crapping out a version of Spongebob and other awful licensed titles EVERY YEAR for it. THQ is trying to hit their targets with scatter shot with these licensed titles.
- hipnerd, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2I see, Not a COD fan myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed Metroid Prime 3. Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero III, Paper Mario, and others.
The system needs far fewer ports and more original development, bu I've been pretty happy overall. - Kloud, on 04/11/2008, -0/+2You forgot his cookie as well.
- surKaz, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2ok... I think you've had a little too much PS3/360 time on your hands....
/the PS360 is mine! - Takfam, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2Exclusivity nearly killed Nintendo in the past. I still remember the arrogance N had over the N64, stating that they didn't want Tomb Raider ported to N64 unless it was a special "Nintendo only" version of the game. No matter which way you slice it, a game developer signing themselves exclusively to one console is banking that the console maker's arrogance is not entirely unfounded.
- muchachoburacho, on 04/10/2008, -0/+2I think you kind of missed the point of what he was saying. ""too much of an emphasis on the sports aspect of who's winning and losing", and that his company was focusing on opportunities rather than installed base." I think he's the battle is irrelevant as to who is winning and all that side crap. Any way you put it, he makes money for making games.
- Kloud, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Congratulations. Do you have a girlfriend? A car?
Didn't think so, enjoy living in your mother's basement in order to afford your "games and gear".
You could be a coke addict for far cheaper than that. - Gregsaw, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Macs are Personal Computers. Mac vs PC is like saying chihuahua vs dog
- haxr, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1This news was old as soon as the Resident Evil license got off of PS2 and onto Gamecube. Of course, it WOULD take someone from THQ this long to realize it. The last THQ game I played was WCW wrestling on the N64.
- Kloud, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Now that's one article that's dripping with sarcasm.
- lacronicus, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1That's so stupid, it's almost funny. THQ is actually responsible for titles such as stuntman, supreme commander, warhammer 40k, frontlines, and a number of others. They're actually quite successful.
- killdashnine, on 04/10/2008, -2/+3True. Ultimately the consoles should be unified enough to the point where development can be done on any variant, including PC.
- surKaz, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1know any recent unkown proxy sites?
- 4d669, on 04/10/2008, -5/+6The console 'war' is as real as the Kerry/Bush election. The chipsets for all three consoles are made by IBM. Nobody loses, expect fanboys.
- inactive, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Nonsense, console war super serious.
- diggduggDOOM, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1I understand that. I just like to give credit where it's due. It's also helpful to know the designers when seeking out new games. A publisher can have a wide variety in quality of games, but a designer tends (though not always) to be more consistent.
- FortyCaliber, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1if it's unknown... then he wouldn't know it!
Then it's just a matter of tracking traffic by bandwidth. - supermanred, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1...seriously, what is THQ?
- LemmingJesus, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1"Competition is *ALWAYS* good for the consumer." Did you miss that whole HD DVD vs Blu Ray thing?
- krd1979, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1it stands for Toy Headquarters. They are a game publisher known for mainly wrestling games and crappy GBA titles. They'll occasionally have something decent like Worms but their good titles are few and far between.
- inactive, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4who cares
- edosmund, on 04/10/2008, -1/+2diggduggDOOM, Relic is a THQ owned studio.
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1indeed, Relic made COH, THQ simply paid all the money for programmers, writers, animaters, the houseing, heating, plumbing, and just about everything else.
- supermanred, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1What the ***** is THQ?
- knetworx, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1If a 360 or a Wii cost $1000, I wouldn't have bought them either. I still haven't bought a PS3 because of its price. If I built up a gaming PC, I would only have a few games to play for it, but I currently have 15-20 games for each console, and still haven't spent $1000 (got most of my games used or at huge discounts). I have no problem with you buying a PC, that's a personal decision. For me, having a Wii and a 360 just works out better.
- inactive, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1Irrelevant for consumers, highly relevant for manufacturers :)
- gloroth, on 04/11/2008, -0/+0lol if the Console War is irrelevant what will geeks have to talk a out :(
For those of you who still BELIEVE in the console wars check out my map of the current situation

I made it using bCisive http://bcisive.austhink.com/ - kingmanic, on 04/10/2008, -1/+1I have a good sized library of games. I just listed a gem from each. I have around 20k-25k worth of games and gear. I'm a Gamer.
