- Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Wonder if it was robbed by it's own employees that weren't working that night.
- elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wonder if they camped out at walmart to get the masks.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Dude, it was 5.
You learn that number by grade 1.
Now if it was a truck load of like 500.. that would be someting to talk about. - travazz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I personally live 20 or so minutes north of this store and I'm about 90% sure this was an inside job. The EB in question received 6 systems and only 5 were stolen. They were stolen at closing on Thursday night. Nothing else was taken from the store, no night deposit, cash, or games. Also there is a GameCrazy in the same shopping plaza not 5 doors down.
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I doubt it will be anywhere near as bad. The supply is high, and it's entirely possible that there won't be a huge rush of non-digg-frequenting people to buy one, since Nintendo started their ad campaign so very recently. Since I'll be in Memphis on launch day (for Thanksgiving break) I don't have a preorder, and it might take going to a few different stores, but I don't think that the sun will rise on me not playing Zelda.
Worst-case scenario: dumbass eBay-ers lose money on the Wii, and I get one on the cheap as a result. There might be a few scuffles in line. Maybe some cross words exchanged. - Abno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3boozedrinker - It said it happened on thursday, so it was before the launch.
- donjaime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They'll probably just re-use a picture from another ebay auction.
Those bastards are going to make alot of money. - Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Well I don't know if the thieves intend to run to eBay and sell them. They could much more easily sell them on the streets at a discounted (or *****, even above retail) price and make cash much easier. Considering they got them for nothing, it doesn't really matter what price at which they sell them.
If someone offered me a PS3 for cheap I would probably buy one, even if I thought it might be stolen. - kazzyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For a compilation of the crazy specifics happening around the country as a result of the PS3 launch, check out:
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Sony_Playstation_3_Stampedes_Shootings_and_Other_Injuries - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, the serial numbers are recorded by the store and known by Sony. But what I want to know is if they sell them to some unsuspecting person (from ebay or not) and if/when one of the console breaks, does Sony call the cops on the guy who brought in the console or do they just not give it back? or both?
- blinky04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Keep your eye on ebay. Another 5 PS3's are about to go on sale.
- thexfile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sony can't steel that kind of P.R..
- RyanSK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Scary; I used to work at that Wal-Mart not 3 months ago.
I live about 5 minutes away from that GameStop. It's too bad; I believe one of the employees there that night graduated from my High School the same year I did, but I don't remember his last name, tbh. - P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably, the're going to be blocked from going online with these ps3's.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No ebay if they're smart, but they'll make tens of thousands of dollars on craigslist for sure.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3When stuff like this happens, it is usually an inside job.
Law enforcement knows this. When the place I worked at got broken into (they drilled holes on the roof and broke through the ceiling) I was the one who found it the next morning and the damn cops were asking me the same questions over and over and over again to see if they could "trip me up" or something. Excellent work there, detectives. - shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3they'll be in the green again if they just ebay one ps3 on the sly.
- xmarsx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0may be it is bad
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -17/+16Probably robbed by Sony employees to increase PS3 exposure, and make it seem like it's so "gotta have", that people will steal to get it.
- alpha2zulu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The number stolen is still unbelievable to me...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Well I don't know if the thieves intend to run to eBay and sell them. They could much more easily sell them on the streets at a discounted..."
I know that, that's why I said "for sale on ebay or not", since ebay can take a look at the serial numbers. That's not even the point.
The question remains: If/when one of the console breaks and you send it in, does Sony call the cops on the guy who brought in the console or do they just not give it back? or both? - favorite15, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Maybe it was espionage?
- boozedrinker, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3What I am wondering is how in the hell there were 3 PS3s left at 9pm......????
Almost a good defense for the robbers - - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0lol gay im getting a p s 3
