Someone tell me, What was so incredible about the dual shock? It wasn't the rumble since Nintendo did that first, it wasn't the analog stick for the same reason... it could only be the fact that they combined rumble with dual-analog in such a nice successful package, but even then, you'd expect the award to go to the first implementation rather than the re-hashed repackaged dual-shock. The Dualshock *is* one of the most popular controllers ever made. It's hard to deny it. It brought force feedback into the perfection with Metal Gear Solid. Yes, Nintendo had both rumble and reliable analog first with the N64 controllers, but the dualshock boasted two separate motors; a weak buzzing motor (like cell phone or pager vibration), and a strong rumble motor, similar to that of the Nintendo 64's Rumble Pak. That gave it the range of functionality no other controller in it's day had. The heart attack scene we all remember from Metal Gear Solid illustrated it's capabilities flawlessly. It also ran off the playstation rather than batteries.
It was an amazing controller for it's day. I'll happily let Sony have an Tech Emmy for it. Also note that Nintendo was nominated for one from their invention of the D-pad.

The PS2 was a great system, the best in my mind. I remember the launch of the PS2, I was in line for one, when i got my system my hands were shaking. I was so happy! Everyone of my friends got one too. Everyone I talked to wanted or had one. All the forums talked great about the PS2. Now with the PS3, no one wants one. Remeber the hype of the PS2. the PS3 never even came close. Sony fanboys say what you want, but it is true.
People want a gaming machine not a ***** computer or dvd/blu-ray player. Thats what sony forgot! and it will cost them. One day bue-ray players will be cheap (if they even win the HD war) and the PS3 will still be over $500.

Sony released an official statement saying the SIXAXIS won the award and I'm sure they knew the award they won was for the Dualshock, though I suppose they could be as about as slow as you. Sony really just has too many screw ups this time around. They may be the biggest electronics manufacture in the world, but they aren't going to be #1 in gaming for long. Otherwise it's almost perfect, though I have to say the Wiimote + nunchuck combo is excellent.
