- Aero, on 10/12/2007, -71/+12'Under $250', and teasing us for so long. Nice trick, Nintendo. Just when I was starting to warm up to you. Well, forget it.
- JeffreyAtW, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Well, it does come with a game. Wii Sports should be a great starter for the system.
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -16/+38the PS3 is slated to go for upwards of $700 and you guys are complaining about $250 for a superior system
- Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19They're going to release it AFTER the PS3? MADNESS!
- nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6Nintendo already said they would release it before the PS3. This is inaccurate.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Uh, they said that it would cost no MORE than $250, not that it would be under $250.
- mmortal03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Gamespot is reporting that November 19th is "two days after the PS3 is going to be released" however, that Nintendo is claiming that they will be able to ship much more than their competitor.
$249.95 is reasonable, as the other Nintendo systems all released at $199.95, but without at game. This comes with a game AND inflation, so it works out to be a good deal.
Oh, and the PI is reporting on an article from what will be today's NYT. - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It is true that all that talk about it being as low as $150 makes $250 seem pretty expensive. But in relation to the other systems it is really quite affordable.
- Americruzan0, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13So basically, by the time your PS3 boots up and loads a game, you'll already have a couple sessions of wii sports under your belt :D
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7IIRC, Nintendo said "no more than $250", not less than $250.
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14You guys are missing the biggest point.
$50 games? Really? Doesn't that seem a tad expensive to people? Budget titles had better start running at $30 is all I can say... - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Wii will also boast regularly updated news and weather channels. In addition, the system will ship with the Opera Web browser, enabling users to connect online.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Confirmed_Wii_ships_with_the_Opera_browser_enabling_users_to_connect - EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The 250 price is smart for getting the most from early adopters. Once that is done, they can announce a price drop for a double whammy on their competition.
Good move Nintendo, very well played.
I am one of those early adopters by the way... - JerMe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7C'mon guys, WAIT for the announcement from Japan, not this speculation crap. Look for the press coverage feeds and make sure that they're all saying the same thing before posting your diggs.
- drum_bum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Joystiq now has pictures up of the event:

"Famitsu is reporting a December 2 launch and 25,000 yen ($215.51) price for Japan." - drum_bum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The press release is up.

- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42250 isnt as happy a number as $150-199.
- Onetrack, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32It is under 250 ---- 249.99 I bet.
- afeitarse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Why all the bellyachin' about the price and release date? Signs have clearly shown that they are still doing promotion and beta testing until late October, plus they never promised a $200 price point. I think $250 including a game is a hell of a better deal than the x360 or ps3.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10They sure as hell hinted towards something at least lower than $250. $249.99 DOESN'T COUNT, NINTENDO! I guess I can let that slide for bundled Wii sports...
- pooper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Nintendo knows what they're doing. Because the ps3 and the 360 are so much more expensive, why would they release the wii at 150-200??? In the end, they're a business too, and they know all those fanboys out there would gladly pay $300, so why not make that free money. Didn't anyone see this coming? When they said under 250, 249.99 immediately came up in my head.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Because they need to appeal to a whole new market. The 'non-typical gamer' age group are not going to buy a $250 product that they may or may not enjoy.
"Didn't anyone see this coming? When they said under 250, 249.99 immediately came up in my head." Even taking to account the fact that they are a business, this is just plain rude, almost on the level of infomercials. When you say 'below $250' at E3, you're not exactly implying 250 dollars minus a CENT. - Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9"Because the ps3 and the 360 are so much more expensive, why would they release the wii at 150-200???"
A)Price point is a significant factor in the demand for any product.
B)Their product costs SIGNIFICANTLY less to produce than either the Sony of MS product.
C)They're only 50 dollars cheaper than an Xbox 360, which doesn't differentiate them much for parents buying their kids gifts, one of their large targets. They seem to be more expensive than the 360 Core in Europe now....
D)It'd be generally pleasing to know they released their every system at $199.99, what now seems like a cheap price, which would buy them product loyalty.
E) They want non-gamers to purchase it... I'm not going to spend a quarter of a grand just to do what I see as swinging a fancy stick. - Beerduck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Tiak:
"A)Price point is a significant factor in the demand for any product."
Yep, and since the XB360 costs $300-$400, and the PS3 costs $500-$600 i think that $250 will be very affordable.
"B)Their product costs SIGNIFICANTLY less to produce than either the Sony of MS product."
Perhaps the console itself, but I'm willing to bet that the controller doesn't come nearly as cheap.
"C)They're only 50 dollars cheaper than an Xbox 360, which doesn't differentiate them much for parents buying their kids gifts, one of their large targets. They seem to be more expensive than the 360 Core in Europe now...."
Way wrong. $50 is a lot to x-mas shopping parents. And because the Wii is advertised as a console for everyone, with a free game, the parents will be more interested. Also the $10 price difference in games will appeal more to parents.
"D)It'd be generally pleasing to know they released their every system at $199.99, what now seems like a cheap price, which would buy them product loyalty."
True, every Nintendo console has so far retailed at $200, but when you think about the competitors price, $250 with a free game ain't bad.
"E) They want non-gamers to purchase it... I'm not going to spend a quarter of a grand just to do what I see as swinging a fancy stick."
Oh, but as a 'non-gamer' you would spend a third of a grand on a XB360 or half a grand on a PS3?
Your logic amazes me.
The Wii will sell like honey just because...
1) The hype surrounding it.
2) It's the cheapest.
3) Everyone (including my grandma and her dog) wants to know just what it's capable of.
4) It has the largest collection of release-games ever.
You might call me a Nintendo fanboy but to my defense I have almost every console made so far including the XB360. I just don't get what people are complaining about. $250 is a VERY good price for the Wii. And to everyone who complained that they 'promised' it under $250 and it only fell to $249,99, would you have been happier if they originally had promised if for $1000 and then dropped it to $250? No, exactly.
- Onetrack, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32It is under 250 ---- 249.99 I bet.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Not the news I was hoping for...
This will make for a harder sale to the wife...- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i hear ya. i mean, i have to buy one anyways, but it seems like the casual gamers out there might see $200 as the ceiling. really seems like 150 or 199 was the sweet spot. but i guess not.
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4new york times emails out their headlines at 4:30am
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2it's not 4:30 on the east coast yet.
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6exactly my point. in an AP-esque move, the Seattle PI has scooped the Times. just wait 3 hours, it'll be there....
if it's real, that is.
;)
- MulletHunter, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Ya I'm in the same boat Dhalgren, I've been telling the old lady $200 at most.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9ya, but you can't really say Wii sports is worth $50.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16If she does kick you out of bed, just play with your Wii AND with your Wii. That'll teach her.
/bad name puns - 10scott10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10i don't know whther to add or subtract from that post
- JOJOFACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"ya, but you can't really say Wii sports is worth $50."
How can you say that? Have you played the game yet? o_0
- silverSurfer84, on 10/12/2007, -29/+6Bury this crap. Its not real.
- eric1, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8A little disappointing... three things are important (to me)
- Release date
- Price
- # of controllers
The first two are a bit :( in that article (though it's still relatively cheap) and the release date sucks if that's true. I hope it still comes with two controllers though..
WTB $200 system w/ 2 controllers in October!- swbat55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i heard it comes with 2 controllers!
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23As for the moment it's a rumor, we shall find for sure soon enough.
- barktwiggs, on 10/12/2007, -23/+5This article is dupe: http://digg.com/gaming_news/Wii_November_19th_250
- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29true, but this one has some nice deets in the description. i should be dugg up for using the word "deets".
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Check the submission times..
- sho222, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2a dupe for sure, but there are a lot of posts about this - all pointing to the same article (I thought digg's URL checker prevented that, oh well). This post has the most diggs though. Rally around the winner.
- aran86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9maybe this one is doing better because it has the word "leak" in it, people love scandals.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Actually yeah, that one was submitted earlier. Digg gave me no indication of that when I was submitting mine.
- barktwiggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Well, at least you didn't say SeattlePI had a Wii leak...
- arof, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It took a few more seconds to write a more than four word description, like "title says it all". It's the better story by title and description, so its front page was deserved.
Thirty minutes to front page is pretty good too. - aran86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it's actually kind of fun just watching digg spy and burying all the dupes of this story. they just keep coming.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"SeattlePI had a Wii leak"
Probably caused by an enlarged prostate.
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4remember remember the 19th of november... the gunpowder treason that broke the reason ...
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3weak.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2....what are you babbling about?
- daeggman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I just don't buy that they're launching the system on a weekend... I won't believe this story until after the press event.
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yea the launch on a Sunday does seem kinda weird. I guess it means I dont have to take the day off from work though to go and buy it. And maybe thats what Nintendo wants - not the kids who are ditching class, but the mid-20s 8-5er.
- zaybertamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you check wikipedia on the Gamecube and the N64, both were launched on a Sunday, so it isn't that weird. And also, the GC was launched on Nov 18th. So it very well could be a launch date.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4June 11th - DS Lite. Also a Sunday.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you check wikipedia Now, you will see they were both released October 15th, Hows that fit into your logic bud, Huh Huh?!
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Damn, reverted already.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Nintendo always launches their systems on a Sunday. Nothing odd about November 19th.
- mrisaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6DS came out on a Sunday...
I am disappointed though. Maybe it was just media frenzy, but I was hoping for a $200 Wii in October..- andjuan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hmmm. No mention of a second controller either? I was really hoping Nintendo would bundle a second controller since they're pushing the whole "Wii" can play together thing. I mean the two "i"s are supposed represent multiple players.
- mmortal03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2IGN is saying it comes with two controllers.
- mmortal03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And now I am not seeing that on IGN anymore. WTH?
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My guess is that IGN had all this information beforehand, saw that Seattle PI posted the release date, and they went ahead and posted the information they had...once they realized that the PI didn't have the 'two bundled controllers' information in the article, they removed it, since it's not supposed to be known until tommorow at the Nintendo conference.
- Shweeeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought it was going to release before the PS3....
- Bitgod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8250 is higher than I wanted, but I would have bought the wii sports game if it was seperate, so I guess really it's a wash for me.
- thayle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why don't you guys wait for the actual conference before you believe a leak... The conference starts in a few minutes so its not like you have to wait very long...
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6IGN now links to this article. Take it for what you will, its not a rumor anymore.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732669p1.html- xcwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Uh, when did IGN become the all-knowning fact site of the internet?
Although I think this is the correct info, don't say its not a rumor b/c of ign. That's just plain dumb. - fredricko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Gamespot too.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157572.html?tag=breaking_news;link - daeggman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Hate to say it, but GameSpot has picked up the story as well.
- Leonaken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10No, it IS a rumor. Just because sites like IGN and GameSpot link to it doesn't make it official. It's not confirmed by Nintendo, and until it is, it's a rumor and nothing more.
But if it IS for real, damn both the Seatle PI and the New York Times. Nintendo has all the fans on their toes, and you go and blow the surprise? That's just foulplay and misplaced journalism.
- xcwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Uh, when did IGN become the all-knowning fact site of the internet?
- Allistairr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Doesn't seem right... I'm feelin a dupe...
"According to an article" means they don't feel right either - atralyx, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I could release my wii for $250 before nintendo even , but i doubt anyone would pay for my wii
- afeitarse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Perhaps most intriguing, the Wii will make it possible to browse the Web on the television. Microsoft's Xbox 360 does not permit this because that could negate the need to buy a Windows PC."
Right, that's why MS never came out with a box that let you use the web on your TV.
http://www.msntv.com/pc/ - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"In a move that may allow Nintendo of Japan to take advantage of stumbles by its main rival, the company plans to announce today that it will release its new Wii video-game console in North and South America on Nov. 19"
I don't understand that bit. The PS3 is coming out a few days before that, isn't it? How's that taking advantage of it? Yeah the PS3 will be in short supply, but it'll still be out first, and in peoples hands. I was hoping for at least a couple of weeks lead-time over the PS3.- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, but still - I'm sure Nintendo's plan was to release before the PS3. They said themselves it would be an advantage. So I can't see where the advantage is now that they're shipping later (in the US, at least).
- cragga, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2only in north america and japan.
the happy australian economy will be entirely undiluted by ***** ps3's when the wii launches. something i couldnt be happier about (seeing sony fail miserably).
- Kokichi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Aye, I think all of us are now going "Wait, $250 is official? I had said it was fine before, but now that that's the price....are you sure it can't be like, $229?"
Also, for all of you who are saying "But it includes a game!", please shut up, unless you've already played it. I played it at E3, and granted, it was just a demo, but if the demo is any kind of indication of what the final product will be like (which is the whole point of a demo, and in fact why they cancelled E3), Wii Sports is nothing but a visual demo of what you can do with the Wii.
But, eek, can't wait to find out what's new tomorrow ^_^ - TwinkieTheKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8250 seems right to me, i've always thought the rumored 150-200 was false. does it really make sence to sell the system for 150-200 when the DS is 129?
- anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This link is definately accurate. Nintendo released their information to all the press outlets at least as early as yesterday so they could finish their articles and have it posted all over the net tomorrow right after they announce it.
People saying this is a rumor need to wake up and smell the coffee. Probably the same people that digg stories titled "Wii confrmed $199 by close source to Nintendo exec" - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This is no leak. It's a pre-prepped article with speculative info filled in as placeholders. I don't believe Nintendo gave any press this information early. I won't believe it until it's on nintendo.com.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You have a good point, but look further down in the article...
"More broadly, Nintendo hopes to make the Wii a living-room centerpiece by including various media channels meant to appeal to and draw in people who do not consider themselves gamers.
There will be a photo channel that will allow users to use the Wii to display digital photographs on television.
There also will be an easy-to-use interactive news channel and weather channel."
Doesn't seem like that would be placeholder material at all. - icealchemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You people do know that Nintendo of America is based in Redmond (Seattle) Wa... right? And the PI is the largest newpaper in the Seattle area. It is real, get over it.
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2probably more along the lines of if it runs in the print edition in the morning and the information is not accurate, dude will get laughed out of his job.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You have a good point, but look further down in the article...
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4sounds fake to me, I don't think nintendo would say "under $250" and sell it for $249.99. also launching 2 days after the PS3, stupid.
- altosaxon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12everybody knows that the ps3 is not going to lauch until the United States pulls out of Iraq.
- altosaxon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The only part of this that I will believe is the fact that Wii sports comes with the console... I couldn't see buying it unless it was "free" with the Wii. The rest of this is just someone who can't wait for the news and wants to earn something based on the hype that nintendo has created.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wrong reply.
- jayfarer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Everyone who got their hopes up for an obscene $150 price have only themselves to blame. It's not like $250 is unreasonable. It's still the cheapest console, and if there wasn't so much hype about how affordable it would be, everyone would be nodding their heads thinking, "Just as I expected."
Also, how can this be fake or inaccurate? That's just denial. The Seattle PI is not some print version of Spong.- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2not saying this isn't worth it, but I think the problem is that when you think about it, you're not really getting your money's worth for the Wii.
Your paying ~$100 for a little bit beefed up gamecube and ~$150 for a new controller.
But i dunno, it'll probably be fun. All the next gen systems will be fun, each will have their strongpoints. It's just that for as cool of a concept the Wiimote is, you're just paying $150 for a controller.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2not saying this isn't worth it, but I think the problem is that when you think about it, you're not really getting your money's worth for the Wii.
- wingedflurry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"- There will be a photo channel that will allow users to use the Wii to display digital photographs on television.
- There also will be an easy-to-use interactive news channel and weather channel.
- Perhaps most intriguing, the Wii will make it possible to browse the Web on the television."
These are actually something I haven't heard about.... but if true then awsome.- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The web browser was well known (Opera), but yeah, the news channel and photo viewer is new to me too.
- primecut17, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Whatever happened to the whole "I only want a game console" argument? You do understand that you are paying for all those "extra" functions that you dont' need in the $250. If I want to browse the web or photos I'll use my PC, right?
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5For 50 bucks more you can get a far more powerful 360
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Games make the system...
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Yes...Halo 3 sounds about right
- jayfarer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13For 50 bucks more you can get a less popular variant of the Xbox 360 which is missing key features like a hard drive.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Another way to put it is... For 50 bucks less than the 360, you can get a Wii with a much more immersive controller, great games and a back catalogue of all the classics you played in your youth.
I don't think you can really compare them though, since I think they're more complimentary than anything. I think full gamers will probably end up with a 360 and Wii, non-hardcore gamers will go for a Wii. There's rivallry between 360 and PS3, but the Wii is really competing with other forms of entertainment more than it is with the other consoles. - Giggy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, the ***** Core system no one wants. Knowing M$ they'll definatly come out with a new bundle to push sales.
- mmortal03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...yeah, the core system, but without a game.
- hotbeefman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2IGN just broke the story:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732669p1.html they cite the PI - 10scott10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Perhaps most intriguing, the Wii will make it possible to browse the Web on the television."
to quote mr. burns "excellent"- mmortal03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, but will digg.com work? :)
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4why do i feel like i just read a spoiler?
- Blueshrike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm at least as big a Wii fan... ugh.. as anyone here. Was paying attention to news all day, and, yes, will *probably* pay for a PS3 at some point too, though I'm a much bigger Nintendo fan.
I've got to say, if true, both the price, and especially the date, are dissapointing. *After* PS3? Common, Nintendo. You got a jump on production, PS3 has production woes, and you're still releasing after? You likely aren't going to lose money even at $199, and you'll virtually assure GREAT word of mouth and more casual gamers. This is a huge, huge, mistake if true. - UberC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8$250 is dissapointing, especially when they advertised it would be no more than 250. So is it going to be 249.99?? That's pretty lame. Also why on earth would they launch after the playstation 3 when it seems like they have the means to release sooner?
- justinwalden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hopefully the system will include an extra controller or Wii Sports won't suck. From what I have seen online, it does.
But hey, what's $50 difference anyways? When most people on this site buy 5-10 games for $40-50 a pop, is it too bad of a deal?- jayfarer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It comes with one controller. Now, before you start burning an effigy of Iwata, consider the fact that no console ever comes out with an extra controller anymore, so why are we going to complain that this one doesn't? Because their games seem more multiplayer friendly? As if the Xbox 360 doesn't?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not going to complain, but I *do* think it would have been sensible. If they're targeting it at non-gamers, it should come with everything you need to have fun, right out of the box. I think the fun with Wii Sports would be playing someone else standing next to you - so for that reason, 2 controllers would have been good.
But yeah, it was more of a hope than a demand. - LunarOcean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"It comes with one controller"
It's a little early to be saying that as fact, don'tcha think? And the reason why it would make more sense for this one to come with two controllers would be that (if this is all true) Wii Sports will be shipping with it. You ask me, it's designed as a good multiplayer game, and Nintendo likely wants to have that feature readily available to everyone who buys the console. - LunarOcean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In retrospect to myself, apparently it was confirmed further down the comments that it's only one controller. Dunno if the links are reliable or not, but if that's the case....well, then my previous comment kinda loses its credibility ^^; My bad if so.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Wii remote will cost 3800 yen or about $40; the nunchuck 1800 yen or about $20 and the classic controller 1800 yen or about $20.
So in otherwords in order to actualy play wii sports the cost went up to 310 bucks. There goes the "Cheap" bonus. Still the best system out there though.
- funknjunk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0This isn't true, its been reported that that report is innacuarte. The press conference hasnt even started yet. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/14/nintendo-japan-conference-not-so-liveblogging/
immagine all your best scenarios while you still can!- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1nevermind..
- solarisom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's a feed offering some pictures, so I have more faith in its legitimacy. It says a bit about games, notably, that Mario Galaxy won't be released until 2007 :(
http://wiinintendo.net/?p=1648 - DownIsTheNewUp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Newspapers post stuff online hours before the papers hit stands, it's not uncommon. Most of the time, the LA Times had lineup and scheduling information for the Coachella festival long before anything was posted on the official Coachella site.
- funknjunk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0damnit they jsut confirmed it at joystiq but, i wont believe it until i see it on the cover of digg tommorw
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2STOP SUBMITTING RUMOURS, GAWD DAMN! MORONS... 17th & 19th reported in the same "article". Jeez.
Buried for TOTAL INACCURACY.- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I hope you're right.
- funknjunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what the hell, the seattlepi page has been taken down
- cybertaur1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2score!!
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow, that's awesome! i wonder if reggie got on the phone this late at night to take their names!?
of course, it's only 10:30 on the west coast. that's prime time for him, i'd imagine.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, they've deleted the article!
- SSCrow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, 250 for the Console and a game seems fair.
But, Considering the technological aspects I'm surprised its that high.
Its not a significant increase from the GameCube, estimating that the console alone would be 200, the Value of technology is lower then that of the X360 or PS3.
But still, Nice and cheap means good easy sells.- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It seems fair until you consider the launch price in Japan is 25k yen, or about $212 USD. So the rumoured US price is quite a bit higher, although the rumoured US launch date is 2 weeks sooner.
- Kokichi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If what the Seattle PI is correct, though, I'm getting the vibe that the Wii would be like the new iTV (or whatever it's called), Apple's new product that allows you to stream video, pictures, or music from your computer to your living room. If the Wii taps into online channels showing news and weather (for the older audience, showing that it's not just a gaming machine), and it does this via WiFi (it HAS to be Wifi, right? Can someone confirm this? No ethernet cable whatsoever?), then it's not too farfetched to think that it could stream music, movies, and pictures from your computer, right? Or at least it can be hacked to do that?
What if the Wii was the answer to a family room computer that M$ and Apple are so desperately trying to create? And suddenly Nintendo comes out with the Wii, a system that already has a remote control as it's main controller, and it dominates the market. Too funny. - billyliberty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Absolutely disappointing.
Like others, I was pretty much under the impression that the launch date would be prior to the PS3. Regardless of the advantage in consoles available, I don't understand this from Nintendo's point of view. Lately, Sony has completely bent themselves over the axeman's board, but Nintendo is content with chopping away at them with feathers.
The only thing that makes sense is that since Sony is having very public problems meeting their stated release goals, Nintendo is releasing afterward so all of those who are waiting for the PS3 will fall back to the Wii once they realize that obtaining one is going to either cost a fortune or involve some sort of thievery.
This is bad too because it means I'll have to wait that much longer for Zelda. - coolkatz321, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah the article is gone... so either they weren't allowed to have it up, or it was inaccurate. I'm really hoping for the latter...
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I won't be disappointed with $250 at all if it comes with two controllers. I was speculating $200 with no game and only one controller. The extra controller and game are worth $50 and I think it's a smart bundle.
Compared to the Gamecube which launched at $200 w/ 1 wired controller, no game, no motion sensors, no built in memory, no networking, and with less powerful hardware it seems even more reasonable. Hell, even today you'd be lucky to buy half that stuff for the Gamecube at that price.- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah but 5 years ago, gamecube's cpu and graphics were considered at least somewhat advanced. This is essentially the same cpu and gpu only tweaked a bit so it shouldn't cost so much.
- Oktober, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They've been notified that they've broken embargo, but the facts of it are 100% right.
- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Okay, seriously people, quit ***** doubting the article. The Seattle PI is one of the nation's best newspapers, especially when it concerns the tech industry.
Also understand that every gaming news site you visit, such as IGN, GameSpot, New York Times, etc., already have the info on the Wii. They knew days ago how much it'd cost and when it'll launch. They just can't print anything until it's revealed at the conference. It's called a news embargo, people. Once Iwata says it Japan, IGN will post their super hi-res photos and HQ videos that were sent to them days ago.
Seattle PI just ***** up and ran the article early. Maybe even on purpose for publicity. It's real, get used to it.
Also, understand that whenever a company says, "It'll cost under $xx0.00," they mean it'll cost $xx9.99. Why? Because people will get excited for it thinking it'll be really cheap. That's what happened to all of you, correct?- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I suppose it's possible they could still change it to $199.99 but that may just be denial setting in.
