ROCKBAND drums!! (PIC)
tv.com — The first image I have seen of the new RockBand drum set. I haven't seen it on here yet, enjoy!

- digg it
- doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2whoa, that looks pretty sweet.
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It also isn't real.
- keyboardduder, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Im sorry but if those ARE REAL they really suck. all the drims are roghtly the same height, theres no hi-hat sim. its nothing but DDR *****. they could at least let you actually play
- kingfoot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, I have that magazine, it says in the caption the it is a 3d model based on what they remember seeing when they went to the office to test it.
- CocoaPuffs23, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3well im a drummer and im going to deem those drums pieces of crap. It's like those little drum pads that i got when we were little. yea, no thanks ill stick to Guitar Hero.
- PugFish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm sure guitarists thought the exact same thing when they first saw the guitars, and look how that turned out
- djs1117, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1GH guitars are set up the same way as real guitars would be, but I don't think I've ever seen an actual drum set set up like that. Hopefully you can choose how you want them to be set up.
- PugFish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm sure guitarists thought the exact same thing when they first saw the guitars, and look how that turned out
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It also isn't real.
- DBVII, on 10/11/2007, -3/+93This is not an official picture. If you have the magazine, it even states that the pic is only an inside rendering of what the staff remembered from their time with the set.
- stealth45, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21Chances are its pretty close to the real thing.
- Bahimiron, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1How would anyone know? 'Vix' has decided not to bother mentioning what magazine her scans came from.
Blogspam that doesn't even credit its source. - answer42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Its from Game Informer
- rcomegys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yeah, and we know they don't make any mistakes. Did they just go with a completely false story not a week ago?
- Ubergoober3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I really don't think it 's legal to scan a magazine and post it on the internet
- proghead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1this is digg remember?
i also don't think its legal to download the entire discography of a band via bittorrent either...
- proghead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1this is digg remember?
- reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -14/+6I have a feeling Rock Band could be the biggest phenomenon in gaming...
- CocoaPuffs23, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I really like guitar hero, but this is getting ridiculous. I mean come on! Why shell out the 200 dollars for all that *****? You could buy a real instrument (okay a real crappy instrument) for that much. I just hope people dont take themselves seriously on this stupid game.
- mtheoryx83, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Instead of looking at the cost of this setup versus the cost of a real setup...look at the time instead. Spend all that time in GH improving your virtual guitar skills, or spend that time actually learning to play a real guitar?
If enough people did that, who knows, there might on day soon be an abundance of new music actually worth listening to.- strifeprime, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yeh, and instead of spending tons of time shooting people in games, they should go to the range and shoot real guns. And instead of playing virtual sports, they should go outside and play real sports. And instead of pretending to be a plumber eating virtual mushrooms, they should actually be a plumber eating real mushrooms. We should just get rid of video games all together! BRILLIANT!
- FlyinWhee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15There has been previous drum games, and I feel kind of let down by having only 4 pads, when Drum Mania had 5.
And the Guitar is looking very much like the real thing, the drum looks weird compared to it. Should still be a blast to play, but it looks weird nonetheless.- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10The foot pedal counts as a drum pad. It's your bass drum.
- cptn_cardboard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2thats actually the distortion petal for the drums
/joke
- cptn_cardboard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2thats actually the distortion petal for the drums
- FlyinWhee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Which Drum Mania ALSO had, I really meant pads.
With 4 pads, you just know they'll have to dynamically change what tom/cymbal is being activated at certain moments in the song, I think you should at least have a hi-hat, snare, 2 toms and a cymbal. Within that configuration you can alter small things without having the player trigger a cymbal, which was previously a tom...- slunktoday, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Not sure why you're getting dugg down. As a drummer, I would hope it would have at least a hi-hat, snare, cymbal, and tom (preferrably two).
I was hoping it would look more like a drum set too- MaTT2011, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Same here. I think the digging down might be coming from the perspective of non-drummers.
But being that both you and I are drummers i think its obvious to both of us how awkward this setup has the potential to be. Instead of having distinct locations for each sound, thus increasing the ease of use, the pads are going to dynamically change. What was your snare drum at one point might turn into a woodblock or something....it all depends on the song.
- MaTT2011, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Same here. I think the digging down might be coming from the perspective of non-drummers.
- slunktoday, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Not sure why you're getting dugg down. As a drummer, I would hope it would have at least a hi-hat, snare, cymbal, and tom (preferrably two).
- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Then the problem lies within the program itself. They'd have to change the UI from 5 buttons onscreen to 6 to accommodate for the extra trigger.
- FlyinWhee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Interesting comment, considering we've seen nothing of a UI for the game yet, and if they had made it with 6 buttons to begin with, it wouldn't be an issue at all...
And if you're referring to the Guitar Hero UI, that's not an excuse, the drum part will have its own UI. - weeman43302, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The magazine shows what the game should look like. The bass pedal is a bar so there are only four buttons. It could easily be five if they wanted to change it but i doubt they will.
- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10The foot pedal counts as a drum pad. It's your bass drum.
- bubbakja, on 10/11/2007, -9/+5looks fun, just hope I don't have to play tool songs on it :)
- Bahimiron, on 10/11/2007, -4/+70It's cool that some douchebag blogs scans from a magazine, doesn't credit the magazine and then it makes the front page of Digg.
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Yeah it is.....
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Yeah it is.....
- tmedesign, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1yeah, that DOES warrant some douchebagging.
- morbo47, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3Whoa, that looks ***** retarded.
I was wondering what they would look like. I did not imagine, uh... THAT - nhinsch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Where are the cymbals?
- Prod_Deity, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Along that line.... where's the other bass pedal for those really hard rocking songs?
- Shaman760, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45Being a professional drummer, I am shaking in my boots at the possibility of drunken party goers coming up to me on my gig and saying "Lemme play- I play rockband drums"....
/sarcasm- ijustam, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Oh my various gods.
I hadn't thought of that. I'm a drummer myself and the thought of that makes me want to vomit. - CocoaPuffs23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15lol i play real drums and that would be the funniest thing ever. "How come the music isn't flying down the screen???" "RL is so gay!!!!111!!"
- juicebag, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6But I'd imagine if you get really good at drums in Rockband, it would be much easier to learn the real thing.
- kuhlmeye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thats like saying "Id be really good at real guitar since im awesome at Guitar hero!" Its not true, games like this will most likely not be anything like real life, unfortunately
- blacklilyninja, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3this game has serious drum lesson potential. I mean all jazz drummers start out with a practice pad learning to read the music sheets. Think of it like Mavis Drum Instructor. In fact with a proper kit setup it's be better than the garage band lessons of "learning as you gig". Some of the kids who can play ffr and ddr very well have a natural affinity for drumming so why not exploit the game engine and put lessons out there for those who want it.
- blocguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm a drummer too, and I was actually looking forward to this game. I mean, in theory, I could just hop on and kick ultimate ass on the game as a drummer. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be using any kind of standard rock drum kit layout, so I'd have to learn it all again.
Saying that, if I want to play drums, then I just got a kit downstairs anyway. I suppose this will be a lot easier for people to pick up who have never touched a drum kit in their life.- svartgotik, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Yeahbut....
It's not like you can learn how to play guitar with Guitar Hero.
- svartgotik, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Yeahbut....
- ijustam, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Oh my various gods.
- megashaun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I haven't drummed since moving into an apartment and this would be great if they added cymbals and a hi-hat pedal. Of course, they'd probably want to keep costs low, so who knows.
- frickindeal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8You do realize that they make electronic drum sets right? They're virtually silent when played and all you have to do is plug in headphones. If your neighbors can tolerate a practice pad, they can tolerate those and you can get your drum fix without disturbing anyone.
- Mikecol, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5You do realize electronic drum sets are MUCH more expensive than a video game, right?
- megashaun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yes, I know all about electric drum kits but thanks for the info.
- romeyinfc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You could get a used electric drum set that's a few years old off of Craigslist for ~$500. It's probably as expensive as having an X-box with the game and all of these accessories. Saying that Rockband is a substitute for playing drums is like saying getting one of those stupid wheel consoles substitutes you going out and driving around in your car.
As a drummer, I'm just liking Rockband so I can show off in front of my friends.
- sunshinemonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2my friend has a pretty nice electronic drum set, it's really cool. besides being able to turn down the volume or wear headphones like frickindeal said, you can also mess with some synthesizer programs if you get a nice one, it's deffinately worth the money.
- Mikecol, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5You do realize electronic drum sets are MUCH more expensive than a video game, right?

- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I'd love one of the bonus tracks to be Joe Black from Malevolent Creation. I'd love to see the kiddies try to play that one on Expert on the drums.
- jongarber, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Its an artists rendition. It says in the bottom left of the picture.
- silverwolfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Avoiding the blogspam:

- icepick314, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0what if you break a drum or a guitar?
don't tell me you HAVE to rebuy the whole set again.... - blacklilyninja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4this game has serious drum lesson potential. - TheLostChild1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Exactly, Artists Rendition. I'll wait for some "OFFICIAL" pictures :)
- rglover, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21This is going to be expensive.
- EvilCan, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3*cries at the amount of money that is going to be spent on this game*
- xspinkickx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7what no double kicks, how do you play metal?
- TheNik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Heel-toe pedals? Knowing the translation of guitar solos in real songs to guitar hero, the drum portion will probably require needless difficulty - like just tapping the bass pedal infinity times on one foot. :(
- xspinkickx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1well I know really, really, really, good drummers can do one footed blast beats, but not every one is George Kollias (nile), or Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal), amongst a few drummers who can do this.
- bondfreak05, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4So.. the Xbox 360 GH Controller will be compatable.. what about the DK Bongo Drums?
=]- Dmatias, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1ya you can use your gamecube bongos on your 360, and your wiimote, and pigs can fly.
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Someone broke their sarcasm meter....
- bondfreak05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1oh *****. i forgot to close my sarcasm tag..
- dailybeans, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1NERDS
- jotatmo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Did you notice how almost everyone who posted on that page had the weird doll as their picture? Kinda creepy...
- MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Needs more cowbell.
No seriously, that would rule.- binaryspiral, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Guess what! I got a fever, and the only prescription... is more cowbell!
- bondfreak05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1One cowbell joke was enough, thanks. We all know the quotes..

- qTrainer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It was hard enough to believe this was a real digg but then to see what looked like real posts commenting on something that has all the uniqueness of a new bicycle is too much. I guess if these folks ever do a search for this type of stuff on ebay, musicians friend or just get past the security guard they will have orgasmic convolutions over what is out there.
- krazykor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2My favorite part of that article in Game Informer: "'If you've played the game for several months, and you're playing on hard, or expert, then you're really playing the drums,' co-founder Rigopulos excitedly tells us. 'We could sit you down at a real drum set and have you start playing. That, as a payoff for playing a video game, is f---ing incredible!'"
Video game company executives: spewing ***** since the PS3. - stefan2904, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2omg. waste of money
- napsack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Please enlighten us on how you spend your glorious money.
- Joecrook, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3is it just me or do I see "Aurthurs Rendition" on the bottom next to the drum set? Can we say undigg.
- kilpack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah who is this Aurthur guy anyway ? .... and more importantly, how does he know so much?
- markdr123, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I know this is the Guitar Hero argument all over again, but if you're going to buy that, you really may just as well buy a cheap electronic drum set (you can get a USB drumset better than that for about $150) and actually learn to play.
- vawksel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's what this game does for you. It teaches you basic rhythm in a way that is more likely to keep you playing.
How many of us have picked up some kind of instrument (even after buying it), and quit quickly because it's "Boring" ?...
I think Guitar Hero, and adding Drums is huge.- markdr123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I began playing on a ***** electronic set not unlike that, but stuck with it and now I have been playing for three years, have aa 'real' drum set and have performed live with my band on many occasions.
...Maybe I'm the exception to the rule?

- jdmCrush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't get it. what's so special about this one?
I expected some over-the-top drumset with 30 pieces to it... - Dacvak, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2According to GameStop, their bundle pack is $200 (I just reserved mine for $25). Anyway, that apparently comes with the Wireless guitar (retail $80), the drum set (retail $80), the microphone (retail $30), and the game (retail $60). It'd be nice if it came with both guitars, but one should do it (especially for people who already have GHII guitars.)
And once again, those pictures are both old and not finalized. For goodness sake, it's a rendering based on someone's MEMORY. Real credible, there.
~Dac - dolemite5005, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Here's a better image where you can actually read that they are just a mockup that the magazine made based off of an early prototype they were shown. http://www.arrogantics.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/rock-band-4.jpg.
- flashdance07, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2woohoo! the airband! the chicks will melt over this!
- koolkluxklan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8The only thing im not looking forward to about this game is the price tag.
- craterburnsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4For anyone saying people should just go out and learn and instrument: People don't always want to dedicate time to something, GH/RockBand isn't about learning the instrument, everyone knows that, No one honestly things they can play guitar after playing GH2 on expert (though, it will strengthen the finger, which could help). People want to have FUN. I play guitar, and it is fun as well, but GH is fun in a different way.
- twishart, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The opposite is true though - I played guitar for years, and playing guitar hero really came naturally. I nailed the timing on a lot of stuff, hammer ons and pull offs were a breeze - I guess the only part that really threw me off was when I ended up trying to play the actual song, instead of follow the frets on the screen. If I already knew how to play the song on an actual guitar, I was almost at a disadvantage.
But yeah - I agree, Guitar Hero != playing guitar. Don't fool yourself.

- PurpleDingo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Hopefully someone will make some good recording software for this crap. I am all for ditching a drum machine in favor of that thing.
- stickywheelz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Biggest difference between this game and real instruments.
This game will not get you laid.- Kwipper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wow. If I ever met you, I'd probably kick you right in the balls for a shallow statement like that. This game is about having fun! FUN being the key word here you dumbass!
- EmmSee, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I'll stick to GH. I'd rather be playing in my studio and recording real *****.. no RockBand for me
- I-Train, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1could you be any cooler?!
- aserer511, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1if i ever have a 360, i'll get this with the drum kit....
- Artzealot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1why not just get a real drum set?
- PunkRockRalph, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its simple-
you cant rock out with your bros online. and a real drumset takes talent to learn.
- PunkRockRalph, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its simple-
- bmc152006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah if you would have actually read the article, you would know that it is just a mock up that GI did. burried as inacurate.
- gemmini, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I don't know much about this game, but by the looks of it? It looks like crap. Steaming crap.
My friend who also plays WoW and has a good PC(because of his grandma's will AND his parents divorced-he dosen't give a *****) also has a 360. This looks like crap to me. Steaming crap.
I pray my friend dosen't get this...if he even listens to me.- vivalagoat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no1 asked for your life story...
we dont care about your friend, his pc, or his grandma!- Kwipper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1amen
- vivalagoat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no1 asked for your life story...
- narcosis219, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Those drums look like crap.
I was so hyped for this game, I was gonna buy it first day, but now that I've seen what the drums are going to roughly look like... no thanks.
4 pads. Snare furthest on the left?? Unless you're a lefty that's going to be a problem because the high hat is to the right of the pad. If I read correctly, they say that it's going to double as a tom as well.. A TOM?? WHAT THE *****?? The same pad for high sounds that you hit almost every beat CANNOT double for a low sound that doesn't get hit as much. And where the hell are the cymbals?? They could have AT LEAST made it represent a beginner's drum set. As a drummer I am offended... - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Donkey Konga, anyone?
- ummagummas08, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one who's hyped that they have a Strat instead of a ***** Gibson?!
I'm not saying that I don't like Gibsons, but a Stratocaster is so much sexier than an SG or a Flying V.
Perhaps that was just me. - babylonian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You can even see underneath the picture of the drums:
"This isn't an exact representation of the drum set - Harmonix shoud reveal the final design soon. We crafted this picture from memory based on the time we played with the prototype." - UkuleleSHIMA, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Forget the drums! How about that AWESOME MICROPHONE!!!!
JK, the drums rock and I'm sure the final version will be pretty close to those. The mic is supposed to double as a tamborine to give the singer something to do during the instrumental breaks, but could easily double as....a cowbell as well. heh-heh!
Thanks for posting the pic! - holybins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ok seriously, drummania drums have been available for the playstation for a LONG time, and they are better than this thing is shaping up to be. Granted, the home drummania kit bass pedal sucks, but otherwise the pad sensitivity is great, and at least they have 5 pads. Totally boggled on how they are going to fit guitar, bass, drum, and vocal on-screen cues all on the same screen!
Drummania Home Kit:
http://store.gameasylum.us/playdrummanc.html
If they can't even equal these, then that is pretty disappointing. Guess we'll wait and see... - wezman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0No high-hat or high-hat pedal, no cmybals, no snare and no double kick...no sale.
- DrumNax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Im looking forward to play the drums!:D
But I'm missing double kick, cymbals and high-hat...:/
Is it gonna be the same without it? No, sorry, I don't think so.
But it still rocks, though!
