- dylanvande21ste, on 04/23/2009, -3/+22QIII on the dreamcast was a major time sink for me. Awesome acquisition for the 360.
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18FOREVER!!!
- gnat74, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I want Duke Nukem!!!!!!
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11warsow is
-) completly open source
-) non-commercial
no way ms will ever release this on xbl arcade.
not to forget that they charge developers for putting games up there (seems logical, as they provide the bandwidth), and the warsow team has other concearns than paying this -_- - JimmyB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12FOREVER is how long you'll be waiting.
- Cannfodd3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Track and Field? Great, be prepared to buy new controllers after a couple of weeks of that...
- apheleon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i'd use the little attachment keyboard to play using WSAD
- jlebrech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How about Warsow as a free download??
- tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It's my turn now to say something stupid and to get dugg down.
- Janus67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I would probably only play if I get the keyboard+mouse attachment that you can get at consolesource.
- Dou6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6A friend of mine works at MS, but has nothing to do with xbox. Anyway, apparently he eats lunch with a group of guys, and one of them works in marketing, part of it being XNA. I guess he kinda overheard the guy having a conversation with the guy next to him and mentioned that a big push in the future was going to be through getting people involved in level design with a FUTURE quake release. Of course my friend thought this meant quake wars, and never thought anything further about it, but did mention it to me that this could make quake wars really awesome.
Well now I am starting to think maybe this is what the guy was talking about...interesting. - whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7are you kidding me?? hell yes!
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Epic probably doesn't want to compete with its own UT3... maybe 6 months after THAT comes out we'll see UT99 for XBLA!
- Dou6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I probably phrased that wrong since i don't know crap about game design. But I think the gist was XNA may enable user created mods or "levels" as I referred to them. THe point is, user generated content being available for download by other users. MS has seen how popular things like the farcry instincts level creator was with live users. This would take it another step further.
- Schwabby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Quake 2 already came out on 360, it came packaged with quake 4.
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought the same thing about the user content, but it would probably be a gigantic pain in the ass.
Besides, you can pick up Q3 really cheap nowadays and most people have the comps to run it well now. They're just doing it to do it, so you can play on your xBox if you want to. I play Q3 still and there's still plenty of online servers to play on. A friend of mine and I set up a server with our favorite maps etc and it was dead easy.
My only concern is aiming and the gamepad. Q3 is a very precise game, I hope they tweak the aiming to be a little forgiving or it could be an exercise in frustration. - footcheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the folks who did the port used any of the open source community's updates. ioquake3 has fixed quite few bugs for example.
- darthtrevino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I SAID F*** YEAH!
- phenom2k7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not everyone is an elitist like yourself.
Now go and pwn something. - AaronTyler, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I much rather have the original Unreal Tournament personally.... I loved that game!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, I still play Quake III: Arena as well as Quake 4, but I've been contemplating installing Quake III: Team Arena simply because of the lack of servers. Has this community just died; have there been any attempts to revive it? Hell, occasionally, I still play Quake II which after losing my original disc was conveniently included with my retail Quake 4.
Well, I'm going to reinstall this on my PC and start familiarizing myself with the maps again in anticipation for the XBLA release. See you guys there. - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Double Dragon co-op on Xbox Live Arcade!!1
Billy gonna whoop your ass. - thumperings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quake III went open source. "Open Arena" It's free I play it everyday,. Come join us and make new mods etc.. Sky is the limit.
- drexl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah it was listed on the esrb site as Q3 team arena. Man I hope that happens.
- noisuf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, playing a game like q3 with a controller would just feel odd to me. But then again I've played the PC verion of q3 for years and am use to having unique weapon binds and sensitivities, etc. I'd still try it though more than likely.
- eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This will be my first xbox live arcade purchase.
BFG HERE I COME!!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. The only 360 title I see matching the search term, "Quake" is Quake II.
- LordLOC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unless I missed something, Q3A/TA was certainly not a "small" game as it were. It would be at least a 800+ meg download wouldn't it? It makes more sense to throw Quake II up there, but as was mentioned, that is already available with Quake IV so I don't know.
But Q3A on the 360 could be fun, I'd love to be able play with a mouse and keyboard though..a controller would just be way to "odd" - xboxing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool... though I'd prefer to see the original Unreal Tournament on there... Deck 16 and Phobos Moon... ah... good times.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It seems you don't understand the GPL. id owns the code. They can still do whatever they want with it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool. I think I actually still have the PC version of this.
- cnldelta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quake 3 on the Dreamcast was fun as a solo game. Apart from the tricky headshot with the railgun, the gamepad was responsive enough. The X, Y, A, B for movement, the left analog stick for aim and the triggers for jump and fire did the job fun wise on the Dreamcast controller. It may not be enough for ranked pro's but its fun enough for a casual bout of fun (which would be possible if some Q3 servers were gamepad only.) I had more fun playing Q3 on the Dream cast than playing it online with a pc (lightning gauntlet kills made the game too easy online)
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What's this got to do with level design? Also, Quake Wars could have a limited editor for consoles like some XBOX titles...
- rderveloy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Buried as inaccurate. Quake 2 is coming to the 360, not Quake III: Team Arena.
See for yourself:
http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?title=quake
Quake III: Team Arena isn't listed for the Xbox 360 platform - ewhac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cool! Where will the source code be made available?
Quake 1, 2, and 3 are all GPL, you know... - mydave, on 08/05/2008, -0/+0QIII hmmm I think I have never play this game.

http://ucdsigep.com/history.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice game!
- ewhac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Incorrect; I understand the GPL quite well.
It's certainly possible that id Software independently licensed a copy of the Quake sources to a third party so that they could do an Xbox port, but the article doesn't make that clear. Certainly it would be easier to start from one of the various Open Source forks.
I don't envy the poor sod who had to convert all that well-tuned OpenGL into whatever custom API the Xbox uses... - mdunn79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just after this was dugg I checked the ESRB site and it listed Quake III Arena for XBox 360 -- now the results are different.
- ZeroConflict, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0who ever says it is quake 2 coming to xbox live dont know what your on about it quake arena arcade just go to pi studios and go to there projects it there with its own little banner quake arena will rule what ever the best fps the rest are to slow thanks
- eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I also had more fun on the dreamcast.
The PC servers always had that one guy that just owned everyone and made it no fun. - i208khonsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why would anybody want to play VQ3. This is only exciting if you get CPMA and has some wacked out control scheme where you can circle jump.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -11/+9The Dreamcast version also had cross-platform play with PCs which quickly proved which control scheme is better for competitive gaming.
Ah well, too bad there won't be any cross-platform play in this release. - samadam, on 10/12/2007, -15/+10fun?
- amillion3, on 10/12/2007, -18/+9Gotta have the mouse and WASD, otherwise, why bother?
- JeremyTTU, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Screw Quake III: Arena... did you see all the other "Atari" and older arcade games listed for XBOX 360???
Rush N' Attack
Track & Field
Double Dragon
Centipede/Millepede - faceless128, on 10/12/2007, -25/+1OH SNAP!
man microsoft holds secrets like a new sieve!
