Good. Awesome. Thank God that Microsoft isn't letting AOL users on to Xbox Live. It's bad enough without them ;) - defylogik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i never really saw the excitement behind playing video games online with a console. im sure i just never played the right game online on a console. my experience was with NFS online on the ps2. no one was even online playing and the gameplay was choppy and unpredictable on my fully open cable connection. seems pc is the platform for online gaming.
but hey, i never found THE game to play, but my old roomate loved socom on his xbox with the headset. - isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All this does is create a HUGE LAN network and is kinda dumb because its really laggy and its not really worth it.
- SadBeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0xlink kai is actually pretty sweet. too bad it doesnt work with network bridges :(
- Gullop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like a painfully slow way to xbox live. Xbox live isn't exactly expensive anyway.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all Xboxs come with Live Silver edition that only lets you play on weekends Live games... Gold is the full monty.. gives you unrestricted access to full content always, for 50 bucks a year ( 74 canadian )
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's just XBconnect... so you don't get many of the live features, including your "Gamercard", which is now the cool thing to have
- freonchill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0but the real question is can we old xbox users play for free on new xbox-live! on the weekends (like they said was possible for the xbox360?!
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by the way, ghost recon, grit, rs3, rs3 black arrow...also no lag. :)
- urbn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Sounds like a painfully slow way to xbox live. Xbox live isn't exactly expensive anyway."
Why would you think it would be slower, all it does for the most part is route data from your xbox to a different server.
And for those people wondering why you would use the free version through kai instead of paying the 5 bucks a month, just about everyone who uses kai use it because you can't play pirated games on xbox live. See the reason now? Free mutli player with free games is the reason. - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"GameSpy had a way of playing Xbox over the net, long before Xbox Live came online."
xbox connect has a gamespy logo as its icon. i'm pretty sure gamespy doesn't produce xbox connect--they just sponsor it. - pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"but the real question is can we old xbox users play for free on new xbox-live! on the weekends (like they said was possible for the xbox360?!"
it's not every weekend free it's going to be promotional weekends and they said they were going to update live for the xbox, if they do is another story - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why would anyone expect Kai to not work with 360? It works with anything that allows LAN play so of course it works on 360.
- Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it was never cracked... xlink has been around for a few years already. it's just utilizing LAN enabled games. not every xbox live game can be playable here.
- spoonzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What are the different versions of xbox live this time around?
- JRJ0710296, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Xbox Live isn't compatible with AOL, so i have to use XBconnect for all my games now, and I talked to an AOL Employee, and for the launch of the 360, Live won't work with AOL. This Sucks...
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do you use AOL, they charge more then any ISP and they give you less..why not join the rest of us and get off that kiddy corner of an ISP?
- vernsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope your not using AOL for broadband. Thats pretty pointless, because aren't just piggy back riding your regular fast connection?
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Xbox Live isn't compatible with AOL, so i have to use XBconnect for all my games now, and I talked to an AOL Employee, and for the launch of the 360, Live won't work with AOL. This Sucks..."
well, no duh. aol is dial up (anyone who comes in here and says aol has broadband, i'll slap you with a cookie. chocolate chip, no less!) NO dial up is allowed on xbox live. THANKFULLY! - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by the way, i was just trying to register my gamercard, and the server was down. i went through all that crap just to register a stupid gamercard for use with my gamertag, and the damn server was down! not to mention, with a gamercard, you're limited to about a dozen avitars, none of which can be your own, and your motto has to be less than 21 characters! wtf is that?!? really, 21 characters!
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GameSpy had a way of playing Xbox over the net, long before Xbox Live came online.
- furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"isn't Xbox live free anyway with the Xbox 360?"
No. There's a free version, Xbox Live Silver, but I'm pretty sure you can't play multiplayer games online with it. - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0one more thing. during the gamercard registration you're asked for your type of internet connection, and ftth is among the choices...
really, who has ftth?!? - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would be more impressed, but this technology is so old.
- cdmonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0foxhoundadmin- 'pc "sux," xbox "rulz!"'
actually, technically, the xbox would be a pc. but i understand you complete fanboyism, nah i dont. please explain :) - neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm not complaining, i'll pay my gold fee... besides.. Xbox live is far ahead of what sony or nintendo currently offer for online gaming... far, far ahead
- Bocaj22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ugh, i love kai, and i have live!, but i dont think this is front page news, its nothing new
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good point, jaymoon.
plus, you'll get access to content download, among other things. - sporkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used xbc, and it sucks compared to live. I'm sure kai is the same way.
- ZeroMafioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has been around for like a year or two now!
- matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0isn't Xbox live free anyway with the Xbox 360?
- Mysticcal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old.... so many tunnelers out now...
- 703_KN33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t
- cyberbeing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"one more thing. during the gamercard registration you're asked for your type of internet connection, and ftth is among the choices...

Well now that Verizon has ftth a good number of ppl have ftth.
I am on a 20Mbit/25Mbit (2.4MB/s down, 3MB/s up) ftth connection from Surewest (not related to Verizon).
FiOS is cheap and faster than any residential connection out there and has ultra low latency.
If it becomes available to you should get it.
About XLink Kai I think that it is good they made it work for 360 as a free solution. $50 per year is actually a lot. Over a five year life of the console you would have to shell out $250 to play online. Multiply that by the millions of people per year who will pay for the service and you can get an idea about how much money Microsoft is making off Live. Its almost pure profit. Online play should be free with the exclusion of MMORPGs. If they wanted to charge something it should have been something small like $12 per year or less just to cover server costs.
Could I afford it yes.
Should I have to pay it no. - angdem, on 08/20/2008, -0/+0The link above doesn't work. I'm not too cheap, its just I probably won't use it that much, so why buy it? I use

All I do is complete some forms to get points, then redeem the points. I know it works because I have gotten A card which worked.
If you want to sign up, please use the above link so I can get some points. I wouldn't be posting this if it didn't work. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for x360 ? ..
anyway, it's not really amazing, same concept as the old xbox and i doubt there will be very many people on it, especially with free live weekends. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"No. There's a free version, Xbox Live Silver, but I'm pretty sure you can't play multiplayer games online with it."
What's the point of playing online if it isn't multiplayer?
>> http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/massivemultiplayer.htm - Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you have a solid connection kai runs fine with no lag what so ever, this isnt new news at all, still its nothing compared to live though
- Emerica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It all started with XboXgw, a linux application to tunnel Xbox traffic.
I didnt get very popular due to the linux aspect of it. Your normal xbox user had no clue howto get things running. Baouta week later gamespy released thier windows client. It works but offeres no optimization or compression and lags like ass.
Xboxconnect was in the works by Biohazard, after some fallouts of devs, this project became XbConnect. In no way affiliated with Gamespy that I know of.
Xlink came out awhile after and offers a messenger line UI.
Both xbc and xlink have optimized compressed tunnels, the lag usually isnt anywhere close to what it used to be with gamespy. Kai seems to be a whole lot better for this now, most of my games tend to be just as laggy as xbox live. :)
You might be fine with xbox live, but what if you want to game and xbox live goes down, you have an alternative, and not just one!
Xbox free weekends will only be select weekends, prepare to shell out cash, its just to lure more subscribers in. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm fine with Xbox Live, thanks. No digg.
- acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll digg it for anyone who has never used it, but its no live, thats for sure.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"foxhoundadmin- 'pc "sux," xbox "rulz!"'

i'm sorry, i can't explain sarcasm and/or humor. too bad you deliberately left out the emoticon on the end, but i understand your (notice the "r" on the end of that pronoun) complete "iwannastartaflamewar'ism," nah i don't. please explain. - ThomasAnderson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay, I can get live free. Wait a minute, Im not too cheap to pay $50 a year, which is the equivelent to less than $5 a month
- killin1a4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0xbox live pwns Sony and Nintentos online service. I own all three systems and all i use for online is live.
- wb9124, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0If you want Xbox Live Gold cards,
rather then just sticking with the silver it comes with,
I found a site where I can get them for free.
Go to http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=1614
Prize Rebel has you complete free offers, and
when you get enough points, you get your card for free.
It works! I promise...

oh, on the contrary, i play h2 on xbox live and experience little lag. while, if i play bf2 (which can supposedly host up to 64 players) on the pc online, i get lag (with less than two dozen players, no less). so, pc "sux," xbox "rulz!" :P - kuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's up with Digg's RSS feed? This is not at all considered being cracked. There's no hacking/cracking involved with this. Hacks/cracks are illegal; this is prefectly legal. -
