- ST0N3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+270hey, let's bombard you with electrons for 25 years, 24 hours a day and see how good YOU look.
- datagod, on 10/12/2007, -6/+250Waka waka waka!
- ellvis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+161apparently 25 years without new carpet as well.
- Tunguska, on 10/12/2007, -24/+156By the looks of things, this guy gets no credit for his screen burn.
- mrmagenta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+99this is tight... but it really isnt if you realize that this is probably from an arcade machine that was on all the time for the last 20 years
- Tunguska, on 10/12/2007, -7/+80Thankyou, daridave, you get the joke. I didn't think it was that vague.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -18/+90"By the looks of things, this guy gets no credit for his screen burn." Obviously relating to the "CREDIT 0" that's burned in there... ok, somewhat funny.
Anyway, this is pretty awesome. The TV [presumably] lasted the whole lifecycle!? I wish they still did 'em that good. - ffffffrabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+62Talk about Ghosts
- corkster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43No you didn't.
Pacman was released in 1979. 28 years ago. - cfpresley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36That is how Costanza could have kept his high score.
- Junkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34I am craving a PACMAN screen saver now.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33... er, welcome to the world of technology? None of that was in any way correct.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Modern screens take much longer for burn-in to take place. Not to mention that you need a constant image to burn off the phosphorus.
- robbclark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I have an original Ms. PacMan from 1981 and the screen looks exactly like that. Otherwise the machine still works great.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"I can't help but notice the must have been left alone mid-game, seeing as one corner of the map is missing all the dots."
Fire up MAME with the PacMan ROM, and look closely at the demo game sequence, and compare with the burned screen. If you're smart you'll understand why some dots are more faint than others, like the ones in the lower right corner. - venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Too bad Costanza was playing Frogger.
"What's an outlet? You mean the holes?" - marcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10If your LCD is "burning in" your LCD controller is messed up. The only reason LCDs should visibly deteriorate is if the controller is applying an average DC voltage across the pixels, which will make them deteriorate (IIRC). Screen savers are useless these days FOR LCD SCREENS, assuming they're made properly. LCD screens will die no matter what image is on them with a proper controller - the CCFL lamp does have a limited life. The best defense against this is to shut down the screen when not in use (not a "black screen" screensaver, but the proper DPMS power option to completely shut the screen down). Anyway though, if you don't go through the manufacturer (which will rip you off), replacing a dead CCFL lamp is cheap and easy ($15 or so on digi-key for a new tube).
- Sibre, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Ahh..I remember seeing screens start to look like that back in the arcades. Anyone else miss the good days of arcades in every shopping mall or downtown? It's so hard to find any good ones anymore.

Please do not use "It's just the internet" as an excuse for sloppy English. No one is asking for 100% but something of an effort is very much appreciated. I'm tired of the "It's just the internet" people trying to justify their ignorance. Again, no one is asking for complete and total proper English. Just an effort. And for those who don't think punctuation is important, remember this. There is a difference between "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" and "I helped my uncle jack off a horse". - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8LCD's can do something similar to "burn in", it's called "image persistence". It is not permanent like burn in.
http://compreviews.about.com/od/monitors/a/LCDBurnIn.htm - ThantiK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yeah, that kinda happens when you buy a computer, leave it on (with the screen on no-less) and NEVER USE IT. Never needed a screen saver for my computer, but then again, its probably used 15+hrs a day and has a 1hr low power mode. No point in a screen saver - just turn on your power settings >_
- andrewry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Some screens at my local library are pretty badly burnt in, and some of them are rather new (only a couple years old).
- rshah, on 10/12/2007, -17/+24Translation for those who do not understand rebelxtnut's comment "haha, funny ive had my screen its been thru win 2000 xp and now vista, and i have no screen burn at all wtf i want burn"
"haha; [I have a monitor that has been used with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, yet my monitor does not display any signs of 'screen burn.' I want 'screen burn']"
Try punctuating things, it's not that hard. And use real words, not fragments of words. - TimFrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Please tell me this is for sale?
- johnmalc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Junkey, does this mean I shouldn't be running a Pac-Man screensaver with my plasma TV?
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Hell the lcd on my dell inspiron 8600 started to burn in before it died. When I switched to linux the top bar thing was there all the time and the right corner of it about 5-10 pixles down started to burn in about an inch long.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/media/pacman_flash/
- fraggal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I rebuild arcades and see this all the time. You can replace the tube with one from a TV and make it look like new again
- Nicholas482109, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6hahahahaha
- jus10y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow, sometimes i really do believe we have no life
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12I once played an original Pac-Man that had 30 years of burn on it, looked just like that.
The best part was that you couldn't tell where the pellets were, because they were burned in. - Delusionaryx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5since most people use LCD displays screen burn is not an issue any more, other than the occasional bout of image persistance which is typically correctable.
- Fygee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not fake. The position of the ghosts is where they're shown during the attract screen with their names. 25 straight years of that will definitely burn it in since the ghosts are not moving during that portion. Even more so for the top two since they're on the screen longer than the bottom two before it goes back into a demo play screen.
- SebHughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Argh, your site is suffering from too much digg, anybody got a mirrorlink?
- GhostToon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How do you find a TV with the same shape as that screen. I may be just be or the pic but it doesn't look like a normal 4:3 screen.
- fraggal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GhostToon it is just a 19" TV tube here's a link that tells you how to do it. they sell the boards to replace the old arcade Mon boards. much cheaper then get a new arcade Mon for an arcade supply house like happ. http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html
- SebHughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Ok, I mirrored the image:

- Scarfy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Did anyone else think it said screen bum? I don't know what that is so... it confused me.
- drmsucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool - Thanks!
- mythosmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I work with pacman/mspac arcades all the time ive seen MUCH worse.
- spooky07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2this has been true for a long of this kind of possibilities in early arcade machines. These tv screens are getting old but it should still work fine.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It'll be on eBay within the week.
