Or you could plug your Sonic 2 cart in and play Sonic 2 as Knuckles.
So. There. - neenach2002, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Correction: Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Knuckles!

- pictureDIGGER, on 10/10/2007, -12/+6I don't think the cleaning system was playable, but didn't the Sonic and Knucles 1 & 2 work together? Even with Sonic 3?
- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8sonic 3 was fine, it was sonic spinball that didnt work with it, and i think it was sonic 3d too
- sirbeta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Sonic 2 and 3 played with Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic 1 was like any other Genesis game and would present you with the "NO WAY! NO WAY!" screen that enabled the million something Blue Sphere mini games. As for putting Sonic and Knuckles inside another Sonic and Knuckles, it would present you with a the NO WAY screen. Similarly, if you added Sonic 3 at the top of the stack (S&K+S&K+S3), it would do the same as if you just put one S&K on top of another.
- qwertydvorak, on 10/10/2007, -15/+6dude. women have at least as many parts. go play with one.
- eightyd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12don't listen to 'qwertydvorak'. with that name, you can bet he's more basement dweller than casinova, and hardly one to dish out insults about women.
- Inverno, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I always thought Sonic 1+knuckles gave a different level layout than S&K+(other game). I know my friend and I spent a weekend doing nothing but playing the sphere game. Aaahhh, to be a youth with nothing to do.
- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3One of my old Sega magazines had a load of the level codes in it.
Level 30,000 is tough.

- YossarianDent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31No; he cheated. Not only can you not play the cleaning cartridge, he put 2 Sonic & Knuckles cartridges on top of each other, which wouldn't work either. God only knows what the 32x and the other attachment would've done with even the cartridges that were playable.
- briansalo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6...by the way, don't put the Sonic 3 cart in backwards... it erases your data :S:S:S

- Arkonnan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4> God only knows what the 32x and the other attachment would've done with even the cartridges that were playable.
Isn't the attachment on top of the 32x a Sega Master System converter? I stopped collecting Sega systems right before the 32x came out. My old front-loading Sega CD had to be returned for repairs more times than an Xbox 360. - hockey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I believe it's the Sonic & Knuckles attachment cart. See the original programmer of the Sonic series coded all his game engines in such a similar concise and "forward thinking" manner that the developers of Sonic discovered that you could add extra stages to his games because of the way his code worked. They were able to add an "expansion pack" to a cartridge game simply because the developer had such a great engine to work with. I think that's the extra cart you are seeing.
- timpkmn89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I have never heard of such a thing, other than Sonic and Knuckles itself, which was from the start originally planned to be one game along with Sonic 3 (but split into two so they could get part of it out for the holidays).
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Do a google search for "sonic the hedgehog passthrough cartridge" or something similar and read around. I may be a little sketchy on the details (we are talking about 10+ years here and only going off of my memory) but such a cartridge did in fact exist. You basically plugged the two cartridges together and voila you had a different game.
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sonic 3 was always planned for knuckles, they were originaly one game but due to time constraint they broke them into two.
Sonic 2 on the other had, the developers have stated that sonic 2 + knuckles rarely references the sonic 2 cart, basically it registers the games ID code and activates the sonic 2 portion of knuckles, (All games except a few had an ID code, which could be plugged into knuckles, activating one of thousands of bonus stages)

- dearsomething, on 10/10/2007, -1/+60You're missing the infamously awesome and short lived Sega Channel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35Dude! Sega came up with a virtual console nearly a decade ahead of it's time! That's amazing! I freaken miss Sega as a console maker so much. People always praise Nintendo for being innovative but I always thought Sega kicked Nintendo's ass in that department. It's too bad they didn't know how to filter the good ideas from the bad ideas. The console market would be a completely different world if Sega was still around.
- nstern2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17That thing was the *****...When it worked! My parents bought me that when I was like 10. It was xbox live before there was xbox.
- frsrblch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sega Channel kicked ass... good times.
- Kavok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The sega channel was freaking awesome. Why didn't anyone else follow in the footsteps?
- HeyaBILL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh wow, I forgot all about the Sega channel. I bugged my parents about that NON STOP for months but they never got it for me. It was on a different cable provider [Multimedia Cablevision in our area but we used Cox] so I never got to use it. Shame.
- Vazel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Holy crap that Sega Channel sounds like it kicked ass for its day. It's times like this I hate having had a peasant childhood.
- noseeme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Haha, they advertised the HELL out of Sega channel.
- Kokichi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anyone ever stay up to midnight at the end of the month when they changed the games? What happened? I remember they advertised something special happening, but I was too young to stay up that late back then.

- SleepJunkie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42Years ago me and a friend stacked our gamesharks on top of eachother to see what would happen on a N64. We threw one of them out later that day.

- ProvoloneNinja, on 10/10/2007, -20/+6Looks like a vacuum cleaner. Will it blend?
- davidjunit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Before I was able to focus on the mess I did think it was a vacuum cleaner with a SegaCD attached to it.
- eyefone, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2Sega did what Nintendidn't, and failed.
- supernovasky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+291My first thought was..
"You used to play vacuum cleaners when you were a kid?"- stepnet, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20Yeah, but gaming back then sucked.
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I heard there will be a vacuum cleaning attachment for Wii.

- flowaus, on 10/10/2007, -23/+5yes, but will it blend?
- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2..die in a fire.
- rbvmusic, on 10/10/2007, -10/+79Almost as big as the original xbox
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20I think you mean "original xbox controller."
- Ashura2k, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2LOL. Both the xbox and the original xbox controller were quite large. The cartridge tower was quire large. I can see where the connection could be made.
I just thought of something, you know what else is almost as big as an xbox? Other things that are of comparable size.
- Ashura2k, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2LOL. Both the xbox and the original xbox controller were quite large. The cartridge tower was quire large. I can see where the connection could be made.

- DevilDunkard, on 10/10/2007, -13/+5Is it just me or does it look like a vacuum cleaner?
- plague, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Not just you, the other people that already said that agree with you.
- Spamcan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10It would have been even taller with the Genesis 1 and the front loading Sega CD.
- eyefork, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4Am I the only one who thought the thing was stuck up the person's ass?

I don't see it ever happening, but a boy can dream can't he.
I still own every sega home console they made, prolly have them until I'm a grandpa, and then pass them on to my grandchildren, and then they will prolly think they suck, lol.- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Hell i still play house of the dead 2 on my dreamcast. Better then pumping a dollar into the machine at the arcade to play
- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1***** sorry double post

- commiecat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+56On a somewhat-related note, I was cleaning out my closet the other day and dusted off my old Genesis. I couldn't help but laugh at the print across the top which read "HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS". PS3 ain't nothin' compared to HD Genesis!

You just buy the cartridge and put it in the slot on the top of the console! You just had to blow inside them every now and then because they got dusty.. thats as technical as it ever got!

- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So instead of digging up the 12 or so other people that have already mentioned that you thought you'd say it again?
- bbhill55, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1am i the only one that thought that looked like an old vacuum?

Seriously, is anyone else ***** irritated at the amount of next gen games that rarely go beyond 10-12 hours? They look and play very nice, but ... c'mon, $60 for it all? Back in the day any adventure/action/shooter game would last you eons.- battletrax, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3shut up and go play oblivion, blue dragon, two worlds, mass effect, fable 2, fall out 3,
Try to beat those in ten hours.- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed. Those games are over 10. But... Gears of War? The Darkness? Saints Row? Crackdown? I mean, 90% of games are on average 10 hours in length.
- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And only one of those you listed is even released.
- SirSwiftblu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1But it's worth at *least* three of the others.

- Colesif, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1We will look back on that era as the golden age of gaming.

- JayBabs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I don't know if I am in the dark here but.... Does anyone remember the website www.segasages.com? It was a great site for all my gaming needs. Then one day my beloved website was bought out by ign.com. :( Still good website, but it wasn't any poor 90's code website which I loved so dearly.
- ToastyMallows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Imagien the blowing you'd have to do on those games to get 'em started. ***** you'd be out of breath, though I do remember, and miss those days =(
