- dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -25/+164Unprecedentedly bad! :)
- APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -22/+121replace PS3 with Wii and the article is accurate.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+89hilarious, if all else fails go with the jedi mind trick.
"there is nothing to see here, systems are moving" .. - APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -6/+71actually Sony is losing money on every PS3 they sell and with software sales in the toilet they aren't making money on that side either
- zosofrank, on 10/12/2007, -7/+70I went by Best Buy yesterday for the clearance sale, there were around 8 sitting out... yeah demand is really high.
- Liverdamage, on 10/12/2007, -9/+72I work at gamestop... and its almost always in stock, and not because its selling. Personally i've sold 3, returned 4, and defected 1, and one was actually traded in....store credit value is $500 for the 60gb, but he took cash (20% less) and walked away with $400.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -16/+80"Unprecedented" in the way that it's not selling even remotely as well as the PS2?
- ts8lemonade, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59LOL I work at Gamestop and we barely sell any PS3s. In fact our warehouse stopped shipping them to our store because we still have units left from when they sent them over a month ago, no joke. I also went in to Best Buy the other day and there were about 20 consoles sitting on the floor, with nobody giving them the slightest interest. Meanwhile, we STILL get annoying calls and people asking about the Wii. Damn you Nintendo for making a desirable console for the masses!
- strohs189, on 10/12/2007, -5/+61Unprecedentedly, this word you keep using it, but I do not think it means what you think it means.
- ts8lemonade, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48Jacksons98, you can't sell a product that nobody wants to buy.
- ooter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50But the 360 has been out for over a year...
- Dustin00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46Gamestop pays $400 for PS3?
I didn't realize Gamestop had such a generous customer appreciation plan. - Daveecee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45Unprecedented? Nah. Philips CDi probably did worse.
Probably. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Geez...after that big hit he took he could still buy a premium Xbox 360 for a similar/better experience with the newest games.
- 60effects, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37It's not hard to understand that he's paid to spin the situation, but that doesn't make his statements any less laughable or unrealistic.
- BigBaRay, on 10/12/2007, -11/+45PS3 Demand for Cash Is Unprecedented
- technique, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34They're selling so fast and being returned so fast it's like they don't even leave the store. Now that is unprecedented.
- Yukos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33$400 for a used PS3? I think you all got screwed on that deal.
- inajeep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Usually if things are bad, they keep quiet, this is not how Phil seems to be operating and his 'proclamations' are easily seen as falsehoods.
- Yukos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28That is a bad use of logic, the Xbox360 has been out for over a year, so it has had a chance for the demand to settle. Also, you certainly couldn't go into best buy within four months of the Xbox360 launch and pick up a console, but you can with the PS3.
- krische, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Technically speaking, the demand is high. Everybody I know wants one, they just can't afford one.
- Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29"And what would Phil Harrison have to gain by lying to us?"
He gets to keep his six figure job with Sony. Honestly, if you were making the same money this guy makes, wouldn't you want to keep your job too? - Incom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26essentially paid to lie then.
- Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27@topbravo
4 million shipped. Let me repeat. 4 million SHIPPED. SHIPPED is very different from SOLD. They pulled that crap with PSP numbers too. I can't believe people are still falling for this... - stou, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29My local GameStop has had PS3s in stock for at least a month... they told me they can't sell them for *****... there's even a sign like "Ask us how you can save 10%"...
- YoDiggity2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22From Wikipedia:
Playstation 3: Debut November 2006, Sold 1.58 Million World Wide
Nintendo Wii: Debut November/December 2006, Sold 4.06 Million World Wide
Xbox 360: Debut November/December 2005, Sold 10.4 Million World Wide
And I'm still pimping my SNES... - sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25@ts8lemonade
Sorry my kid keeps calling you. I grounded him from the phone but he must be sneaking around or using the neighbor's. - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Who the ***** other than people who would already be interested in technology (and would therefore likely to be early adopters of said tech) would search Cnet for news on a console? Come talk to me when its most searched on Amazon or Walmart.com or somewhere regular folks look for product.
People searching on Ebay are just looking for a deal or wondering if its worth the trouble to grab an available system and sell it. - afx1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Ladies and gentlemen...I present to you the comedy stylings of Phil Harrison:
"...they'll tell you that the demand is unprecedented and that they give us kudos for managing to keep a very sophisticated supply chain moving." - budgetguitar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Alternative headline: Sony keeps known liar on payroll; rest of world laughs.
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Ooh, this is the place for my Target story! I stopped by Target to get WiiPlay (I was near by). When I got back to their video game aisles I had to laugh. Basically they have 1 aisle for Wii and DS and one for Sony (2, 3 and PSP) and one for 360. I had to stand in the empty Sony aisle and wait my turn to get into the Nintendo aisle. It was so packed I had to eventually just ask someone if they saw any WiiPlay down there. They were of course sold out and I moved on to Toysrus where I saw much the same thing, but they had the game in stock =)
I guess you could call that unprecedented. If you're being sarcastic or derogatory. Article dugg for unintended comedy. - Tallon29, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Someone needs to paste his head on the old "Baghdad Bob" Iraqi Disinformation Minister guy's body
- SpectralSounds, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20The first one was FootLocker.
The second one was Godiva Chocolate.
The third one was (insert any name of a store that carrys videogames here)
Am I right? Im right. - Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The main reason why we don't like the PS3 is because of the price-tag of the console, and how it just doesn't justify the current line-up of games for it. Sony could have prevented this by not including hardware that wasn't really necessary for a good gameplay experience. (Namely Blu-Ray) That is the pure and simple truth, right there. Propaganda plays no part of this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@jackson98
might want to check that link again - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@nebunezzar
Actually, It might be news if he told the truth. It is tough to come up with any examples of a Sony exec doing that lately. - R34C7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24PS3
- to go down in history as the most overhyped failure of console history. - nebunezzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Of course it's inaccurate, that's why it's on digg. It wouldn't be news if Phil told the truth.
- jrieth50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Couldn't he just say,
"Yes the PS3 sales are slow, just as we always knew they would be. Please keep in mind that we are still riding high on our sales of PS2's, the generation of consoles in which MS and Nintendo can't sell a single item now, we still routinely move xx,000 units a month with game sales of over $______. So as our customers begin to make the switch, you'll see PS3 sales pick up and demand increase, especially with the killer line-up of games that will become available starting with Virtua Fighter 5 all the way through Final Fantasy XIII. And BTW did you notice we're selling tons of Blu-Ray discs and Bravia HDTV's?"
I don't even LIKE Sony and I can do better, if he isn't outright ordered to say the things that he is saying, then he is a complete moron and perhaps the worst PR man in the entire world of public relations. Oh well, the more respect they lose from the general population means the more Wii's and 360's will sell and my game library will be filled with high quality product for years to come. Cheers to Phil Harrison and the entire Sony executive team :) - shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17does anyone expect them to say "sorry everyone, we're going to have to take a mulligan on this one.... sorry..." . of coarse they're still trying to hype it and overstate demand... they're already millions in the hole...
- jrieth50, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Krische - Demand is inseparable from price and supply. If the price is too high for you or your friends to buy, then technically speaking, there is no demand for the product.
- utstewman21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@krische
considering that the 360 has been out a year longer and has already completed its initial phase of production, its pretty obvious that your reasoning is actually flawed. lets just see where the demand for the ps3 is around holiday 2007, i have a feeling its not going to be anywhere near where the 360 was this past holiday season. - AceyS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14But krische, we KNOW the Wii demand is high and there are very very little to none on the shelfs. In fact, I haven't seen one for sale in a store since I bought mine in November. So if PS3 sales were really high, shouldn't there be none to buy as well? Maybe that only implies the Wii is selling better than the PS3, but you can still imagine the same effect happening if PS3 sales were as high as Phil touts.
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15OH MY GOD!
When did Joe Isuzu start working for Sony? - Kwipper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I wouldn't mind owning one too, but you are correct. The price tag is too high. They put too much useless stuff in the PS3 that isn't really related to gaming to jack up the price tag of the console. Now nobody except for the upper middle class, and high class people can afford it. But they're not buying it right now because they're looking for the Wii.
- krische, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Now do you honestly believe the actual hardware is horrible. Or is it mostly just the price for the hardware. Basically, would you still say it sucked if it cost 399?
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I saw a homeless guy on a cold night plug one in and use it to warm his hands over.
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That's because i made the guy take them all out of the glass case so I could find one with an unblemished box. Then after all that work, i changed my mind and bought a Punisher DVD for 4.99.
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Want" and "Demand" are two completely different things...For example, everyone wants to live in a "Million-Dollar" home, yet I don't think the demand is that high...
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13You might as well of written fanboy as every other word in your post, because that is exactly how it read.
