- starguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those new to the PSP and looking for information about the PSP homebrew scene, here's a few good places to start:
http://psphacking101.com -- good place to start, download, watch all the .wmv shows

And whatever you do, DON'T do the NETWORK update via WIFI to firmware 2.8 (as you can't go back at this point)! I repeat don't! To run the widest amount of software out there, you will want to downgrade to firmware 1.5 which with Devhook, can run just about anything (even UMDs that need firmware 2.71) - volcompimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was totally against psp until the other day when I was picking up a DS game at walmart w/ a friend who has DS & PSP and saw that loco roco and some other cool games were on PSP. I'm thinkin about buying one but I was wonderin if anyone knew what the newest firmware is that gets shipped on a PSP? I don't want to buy a brand new one and find out I need to wait several months (if possible) to have the firmware I'm using hacked.
- DNLodge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Awesome
- Pharoah6905, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Psp Hacking 101 did a segment on how to read the serial numbers on the boxes to tell which firmwares they are running.
- comdak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2PSP may be a dieing system when it comes to the actual retail games that are coming out for it. Though there are still some goodies, the special powers of the PSP come from its extreme hack-a-bility. Homebrew has always been amazing on it, Where else can you play NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis, N64, and a range of others AS WELL AS the games for the system itself all on a portable widescreen format.
PSP for life - RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just find the dustiest box on the shelf and grab it. I'm sure it will be 7.1 or older.
Why oh why did I "upgrade" to 8.0? - webphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@twtmc - So are you making anything that contributes to the hombrew scene eh? Why shouldn't Fanjiti do something he's good at? even though its easy to download homebrew for the PSP you have to take in account the number of people out there that don't know about this stuff so the more publicity the scene gets the better I think. Also with this newbies can download this and simply get any homebrew they want off it.
So in short, stop being a retard and if you want more people to mess around with the firmware you do it yourself then you can say that stuff. - RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4When I was young we used to install homebrew barefoot in the snow, nowadays you see these lazy whipper snappers with their "scripting"...
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will be good for alot of people who are "scared" of homebrew this will help turn more people to the darkside.
1.5 firmware for life! - hadak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2i sold my psp... but i still approve this message.
[insert stamp here] - z00k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2*kiss's his GP2X"

-Zook - grandmotherloon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1don't have a clu wtf you guys r talking about, but would sure like to know more
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Let's just wait for Dark_Alex to release something that makes this seem completely and utterly needless. Oh wait, it already is pointless, especially with the new 2.71SE firmware, where you have to copy it to GAME150 instead of GAME if you want it to boot using the 1.5 thing. I think Fanjita should start trying to mess around with some of the firmware stuff dark_alex has come out with a bit more.
- dotuplink, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2wtf?
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2And they still haven't hacked the 2.80 firmware yet. I wish they would hurry up. *sigh*
- ub3rgeek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2no mac version :P (j/k)
i agree with killerofkiller, if you cant do it your self, you shouldnt be using homebrew - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It's like the repositories in ubuntu linux, isn't it?
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Dont realy see the need for this.. if you cant copy the eboot files to /psp/game then you dont deserve to have homebrew on your psp.
