- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -5/+74"While the people in my group preferred looking at the PS3's games, they preferred playing the Wii."
Exactly. - Kiel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39I'm not sure there is such a thing as unbiased opinions
- bigred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32I prefer looking at PS3 games too, cause I can't buy a system, all I can do with the games is look at them.
- frank3000, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36i just hope that the uneducated masses all read this and buy wiis, so that the wii will be the number one system, and get the support of the 3rd party deveolopers. I have a wii, and can completely attest to how fun it is to play with a group of people.
- dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Out for two weeks equals test of time? Try again in 5 years.
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Am looking forward to the Wii (not out here in Aus yet). But why must there even be a "War"? I understand comparisons so people can make an educated purchase due to budget.
But seriously, you know, it is okay to enjoy different consoles, different brands, different games...
For example, have been playing Gears of War and am loven the A+ graphics and big budget production values - though on the other hand, can't wait to play some simple-yet-fun multiplayer Wii games. - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Wii Sports is an actual Wii game. WTF are you talking about?
People are mistaken when they say it's a "free game". It's not...you are paying $50 for it. In Japan the Wii costs roughly $200, and it does not contain Wii Sports. Plus if you want to buy Wii Sports separately it'll cost you $50 in the US. - Maxo1128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Nintendo is a developer too. *cough*ZELDA MARIO*cough*
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@guamb: There's a "war" just so people have something to write about. This console cycle has a lot in common to the last one:
1. Wii is focusing on party games and its strong IPs (like Mario and Zelda).
2. PS3 will have some of the best jRPG games and action games
3. X360 has a lot of "American style" PC-esque games with a focus on multiplayer
Each console really is appealing to different gamers. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14It's actually only been four days. That's technically an amount of time...?
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Nintendo would of went under if it wasn't for Nintendo.
- dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12He still says he had more fun with the cheesy pack in.
I don't see why you'd want more fairness? - ViiGO, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"Eventually, we played some races on the system (PS3) and enjoyed some crisp and realistic-looking racetrack scenarios. But, for a while, he gave up on that and watched Andy and me fall over the furniture as we boxed each other on the Nintendo system. "I'm having more fun just watching you guys play that," he said."
lmao. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Complete failure @ Infowar
Test of time? Are you ***** joking?
It only came out a short while ago
Take the stick out of your ass and learn to accept the real meaning of video games, to entertain people
the fact that you think a piece of plastic and metal is better then another is just pathetic, your missing the whole goal that developers strive for - opnickc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"But why must there even be a 'War'?"
Because the console that wins gets the most third-party support. Personally, I'd like my console of choice to get all the games, wouldn't you? - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What makes you any better of a 'fanwank'?
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh wait, obvious statements are only insightfull when combined with wit.
- nesdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8And while Wii Sports may "just be a pack in", it has effectively gripped my dad, a major non gamer into playing Bowling, and my cousin who now wants to buy a Wii JUST for Wii Sports. So yay, more fun with the cheesy pack in.
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Most people already decided weather or not they want a 360.
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8wow... I've never heard anyone slam 'FUN' before.
remind me again why you play games? - grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The reason PC is losing is simple, with a console you insert a game and play, with a PC you insert the disc, then install, then patch, then configure till the game runs at accebtable speed, then crash, then reboot, etc. PC are far more flexible then consoles, but they are also far more complex, which is what is holding them back from mainstream gaming.
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4that would mean all three companies have to create a gaming field standard that would allow consoles from all three companies to log into....
fat chance.
til that happens we just have settle for flame wars on digg. - randomc0de, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@NiGHTSChao
Wow, you're either a great spinster or just plain stupid. The controller that Nintendo and Sony have is the only controller available. If Sony made a controller exactly like the Wii-mote, then comparing the old controller to the Wii-mote would be fair. The problem is there are nicer looking games for the Wii than Wii Sports. There's no better controller for the PS3 than the controller that comes with it. - ejan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I totally agree. The Wii is a great system, but without third party support, I'm worried it won't reach its full potential and it will whither away like the GC.
- romainechester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Developers! Developers! Developers!
- izzykaubaubau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Woodrow
Australians arent exactly the prime target of the Washington Post, a US Based nespaper. - djhworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At the moment there is a bitter, bitter taste in the mouth about Sony over here in the UK. They've left us in the dark by delaying the PS3 until march next year, so the feeling towards the machine isn't so great.
The Wii comes out on Dec 8th and Nintendo aim to fill all pre-orders.
I'd be interested to see what happens come next year, but at the current moment in time I think Nintendo and Microsoft will take precedence over Sony in the EU. - dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow, it feels like it's been longer.
- whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6FTA: "The graphics on the Wii aren't the system's strong suit, however. One of my friends, who liked the system, summed up its games' looks as "cheesy."
That's a little unfair. If by "games" they mean seeing Wii Sports only, of course the graphics are cheesy. You can't compare that to Resistance and Ridge Racer. :P
While the graphic quality of current games can't compare in realism to Resistance, Zelda looks gorgeous on my LCD TV. - mucha7012, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wii FTW! The wii is so much more fun than that 600 dollar pos!
- didymus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Having said that we are talking about a bunch of people that don't play computer games (at least thats what it sounds like from the article). I would be interested to see what a bunch of hard core console enthusiasts had made of the two.
I'm not a fan boy of either - I'm waiting to see if the PS3 will be any good and waiting to make sure the wii-mote isn't going to end up being a gimmick.
Good thing is they're both bloody amazing consoles... - ghost116, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i was actually looking at the PS3 for awhile, and it took me awhile to find anything interesting other than the graphics. but then my friend told me what the Wii was, and i looked it up, and it took me the second i started reading its features. i also saw game play videos, both real life examples of the motion control, and the actual game. it looked a helluva lot of fun. it also costs a lot less too :)
PS: i own neither system, and im a sony fan - feucht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@marthinus
If you don't like fun, may I suggest 'work' as an alternative to gaming, if you're lucky you might even get paid to do it! - modiggs1976, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What's amazing about this is that people say Wii (yes, Wii is a word, Firefox spellcheck) is not technically a next-gen system. Graphically it isn't but frankly I can see this being the future of gaming. Microsoft said the wii-mote wouldn't work but just like ROB was the NES's secret weapon, the Mii system is the Wii's secret weapon. That and the internal clock are what Microsoft didn't offer.
Short of it: I might just become Wii60 by 07. - Flamekebab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4CannedMango - because playing REAL games makes you cool. The ladies love a man who plays REAL games.
Okay, I can't keep a straight face any longer!
OMFGWTFROFLLOLOLBBQN00B!!1!!eleventyoneone! - selfdisplaced, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I can't wait for "Wii Play" to come out! I hope it's going to be as much fun as Wii Sports is to play.
Nintendo has focused on the correct thing...gameplay.
Good for Sony of having pretty games. Unfortunetly, it's not what I'm looking for in games. - Smuikas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"2. PS3 will have some of the best jRPG games and action games"
Except Squeenix doesn't want to go exclusive to one console this time around, and neither does several of the other jRPG companies... - joevill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wii will wii will rock you!
- hamstereater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Marth is the kind of guy who lays on his couch all day to play his Xbox 360. He has slobber hanging from his lips, a wireless headset dangling from his ear, and cheeto dust on his fingers. He may have bills to pay but he can lurk and sell stuff on eBay later! Nothing takes away from him seeing his NEXT-GEN visual game play 24/7!
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2True - consoles are easier to use and far more mainstream.
Though not everywhere in the world -
PC gaming in asia - especially Sth Korea - is MASSIVE. They have 24hr pc gaming channels, beaming tournaments and what not to televisions country wide. Nearly every street corner has a lan gaming cafe, and the lead gamers are treated like celebrities. Pretty crazy stuff, and a far different gaming culture than you see in the US or Europe. - crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice to see that nintendo delivered what it said it would.
A console even the non-gamers will like.
as for sony, the jury is still out for me. maybe a few more titles that take advantage of its features (other than graphics). - techforce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3what?
- Dallas70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have to admit, my wife and I are looking forward to getting a Wii and the thought of knocking her out in a boxing game is the cherry on top :)
- infowar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I shouldn't have said test of time. I meant nintendo has stood the test of time with coming out with gaming consoles. They've improved each console but have been unique.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Marthinus
Non-traditional gamers might not be quite the cash cow that hardcore gamers are, but don't forget the fact Nintendo makes a profit on every system sold. Microsoft--or especially Sony--would be a bit screwed if nobody bought games. Anything that grows Nintendo's market will be good for them. - ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Yeah, I brought my wii into work on wednesday and it was even fun watching everyone play it. I Can't remember the last time I had so much fun with a video game. The social aspect of the Wii makes it much more fun than mindlessly staring at a screen blowing away zombies (mobsters, what have you).
Nintendo has always had the social aspect of gaming in mind with their systems and games. It's the reason why I bought a Gamecube before I got an Xbox. Games like Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, are just more fun than Halo.
360 / PS3 games are the equivelant to going to the movies with your friends
Wii is like playing dodgeball with your friends - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7The PS3's controllers are motion sensing also. This is the real gem:
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/761/761161/vids_1.html
All the games that take advantage of it are coming out next year. Don't count the PS3 out just yet, despite what you might hear on Digg. - KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How is it "technically" not a next-gen system? Because it isn't "t3h 1080p monstur?" Even if you somehow decided video quality was the ONLY thing seperating the generations, Wii is 2-3x more powerful than the Gamecube, about 5x more powerful than a PS2. Of course, video quality is NOT the only thing seperating the generations....
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6No problem, Wii already has great 3rd party support this time around, your wish has already come true. :)
- FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2eplawless:
if someone posted such a thing on digg.com they would be banned immediately. you are not allowed to like the playstation 3, any computer except for a mac, any linux distro
except for ubuntu, etc.
QTF my friend QFT...now im going to play my PLAYSTATION 2 while using YUM on my FEDORA box that sits beside my WINDOWS XP machine
this outta be good.... -
