- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -5/+103These people have been playing WAAYYY too much Grand Theft Auto.
- walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+95All these stores need to do is enforce loitering and trespassing laws from day 1. Set hard defined rules for waiting and hire 1 local law enforcement official to stand guard once waiting is allowed. If i was a retailer I would not allow waiting in the parking lot or in front my store till 1 hour before opening and have the cop keep order while handing out tickets on a first come first serve basis. anyone breaking the rules could spend their PS3 money on bail.
- alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55nothing a good tasering wouldn't solve
- Hamsterpotpies, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56This is not the only place shutdown. Federal Way in WA had it's best buy closed down and restricted all night. I know people that were there and the cops were going to throw everyone of them in jail. This is just getting crazy.
- billypw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52HAHAHAAAA.
It's a good day to be on Digg. I'm having a laugh attack reading all these PS3 stories and the utter stupidity and greed of people. The only reason they are getting one (or more) is for eBay'ing! - slipknotrobb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47"Idol threats"
Ha ha ha. - blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Well at the Super WalMart I was at, we had all of our line inside, and I was number 2. I HAD A PS3!, then at 12:01am today, they decided instead of a line, they were going to have a mad dash to the front? WTF? Then to protect everyone they instead had a raffle! I got soooo angry. Of course I didn't win the raffle. So I tipped all the carts and burned out in the parking lot. Now BECAUSE they didnt even say there would be a raffle, I was screwed since everywhere else was full. Thanks Wal-Mart, you are the best.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48there is nothing, NOTHING that can shut down walmart..except for a small army of pissed off sony fanboys. Who woulda thunk it.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42These people are like AMINALS! I mean really.
- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39It's sony's fault for having so little on launch date. People are purposefully lining up with friends to buy as many ps3's as possible to hawk them on ebay.
It's just a ***** game console people, of all the things accomplished by the human race, we all descend into chaos over a stupid waffle iron console that everyone supposedly hates? - NICU, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Someone mentioned that there needs to be a way to sell these units on launch day better, there's easy ways.
Sony should only sell them through one or two online distributors. People race to click a button on a website, they're assigned a number, and they get their PS3 in the order that the server set. Then give the person time to complete their order for peripherals/games and make sure everything is shipped out to arrive on the launch date.
Anyone getting violent over a PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 is a loser. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28It's a PR scheme. And it's working really well. Every major news station covered the Playstation craze at some form this morning and will at night, too.
If dozens of people are lined up to buy a PS3, average working consumer thinks to himself "Hey this must be an amazing system, I might need one." In reality, it's all Sony fans looking to get their PS3 "first" and the numbers look bigger than they really are.
Regardless of what you've read about them "underproducing," Sony did so to generate buzz because they were looking to get demolished by Nintendo. You're telling me they couldn't put extra money into the production? Err.... - tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28My first reaction was that the PS3s were drawing too much power and blew some breakers or something.
I laughed. - negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25@OMG: find the heart. it's in the electronics section behind the flatscreen tvs
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24They should just pass out tickets to people who showed up today in the order they showed up to buy a PS3, then put a sign out front after 4 or 5 people get all the tickets saying PS3 sold out, go someplace else tomorrow.
Don't advertise or let anyone know. Just do it. - ArmyOfFun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Have you been in a Gamestop recently? I don't want to be associated with 95% of the customers that I see in a Gamestop. Maybe it's just the couple stores by me, because the big box store game sections are usually only inhabited by children. Though even children seem to transform into misfits when they enter a Gamestop.
Nothing about this incident surprises me in the least. You only have to play one online multiplayer game with strangers or witness any video game related thread on digg to view some of the saddest our society has to offer. Makes me want to give up on gaming altogether. It's getting to the point where I'd feel less embarrassed buying a giant tube of lube and a stack of she-male porn than buying video games in public. - fuchila, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Losers, they make gaming look bad.
- HouseofEl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I don't get it. I just don't. It's sick that this stuff actually happens. MINE MINE MINE! Really? It's not like the PS3 is going to be sold for just a few weeks and then it's gone forever. Grow up and wait it out. In a matter of months they will be everywhere. While the crazies clamor for the first one, I'll be doing something productive with my life.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23There seems to be a positive correlation between obsession with video games and disconnection from reality.
- ringworm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Stupid internet needs a sarcasm font.
- dcbebop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18This is inevitable when only a couple hundred thousand units are distributed.
I'm a Boston Sox fan (yanks please don't -digg me for that), but every year green moster tickets, a very coveted seat for us, are put up in a raffle and winners log in to purchase. Walmart and others could easily implement a queueing system for their website and allow people to log in and purchase units and avoid store trashing and violence alltogether. - motang, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21***** fanboys!!
- SecretChief, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18So what are you doing commenting this article then?
I do not care one bit about quilting, but am I trolling quilting sites and telling people that this hobby of theirs is worthless or that they are stupid for getting excited about it?
So please, whatever you do with your spare time, go ahead and do it instead of totally wasting your time here! - zeeeej, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I feel just the opposite. The Wal-Mart manager needs to step back and use a little common sense. You have a bunch of *extremely* motivated people in your store looking to spend $600-$800. Why piss them off? Does somebody else deserve consoles more than them?
I'd be handing out free coffee and donuts and getting them all chairs. - robustyoungsoul, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17PS3 Shuts Down Walmart?
For a second I thought that was the best press the PS3 has seen so far.
Then I found out it was the fight. Bummer. - TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19The Army should be there to recruit them!
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -16/+30This is why all Sony fanboys should be shot in the face, thrown off a cliff, and then buried in dog *****.
- tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18You better not go to UCLA library to return that overdue book.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Are the rumors about drive-by's true?
- mtownand1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16fuel in the jack thompson fire.
- pap3rw8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12has anyone else noticed that people are getting stupider?
- sliptech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@mightymouse
We descend into chaos over much more mundane things (and quite frequently). Sad, isn't it? - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@OMGWTFROFLMAO: I smell a South Park episode coming.
- RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Well said. Patience and courtesy are traits seldom seen any more. Sad.
- insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Times like these make me a PROUD PC gamer. Never going to see people fighting over the latest graphics card or processor.
as always PC > consoles. - krische, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9plus when you wait, you get a machine with all of the bugs worked out :)
- itsthemechanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9These people are acting like five-year-olds. Pathetic.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Could you imagine the awesome DDOS power of millions of Sony fans all clicking on that one button at the same time. It would be a complete failure if they were not well prepared.
Gah, you beat me to it! - bshep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Actually they should sell them the coffe/donuts ;-) I bet most people would buy em. Heck why not bring around some of the store specials, i bet a lot of people would buy more stuff than they need.
Throwing them out is dumb. - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9And the sad thing is.....the PS3 graphics card *isn't* the "latest" or the "greatest"
- ferggo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Double-You Tee Eff!
I guess if they are stupid enough to wait in line for such a long time to pay so much for such a worthless product, they are more than stupid enough to run around like idiots and smash things. - fak3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You and the replier are right on, I have played online FPS since the days of Quake2, and have always been amazed at people that freak out in a game! One of my binds would remind people that "it's only a game" but as time went along, the more out of control people have become. Maybe that's why I still play Quake2 with friends (some I've never met) that I've had for 10 years now...we get together, HAVE FUN, and stay in touch. We know how each other plays and we always try to make people laugh (checkout the WOD or LOX mods for all sorts of crazy stuff you can do). My favorite is still to set a nuke laser line, then put a decoy behind it...person comes in the room, my decoy runs at him, trips the nuke while I'm far away...so fun!
I worry about kids (mine included) growing up with this overly competitive spirit; trying your best is one thing, but being a sore loser is another. - somunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I heard the fight was actually over a pair of Wrangler jeans.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7YouTube Link:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=NkNdYW34qX0 - dinonion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8good, wait until they are actually released then the people who didn't get one will be fighting the people who did, taking home their free version.
This fight is only the beginning. - agentbristow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ok, im not lying here, I work at a local Wal-Mart Supercenter and I am the one that has to break the news to angry fanboys that we dont have even 10! we have 4!! I am freaked for my own safety and it is ridiculous! Hope i make it through the night
- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sony Fans Vs 360 fans ?
Hands down you are the craziest mofos around. Respect. - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15***** walmart
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I think this is clear proof, a lack of sex causes men to go crazy and act out violently.
I believe that our health care system should adapt. - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@Steelmaveric
Why? Please for the love of god why?
Is it for the Ebay money? You seriously can't be wanting to play the games that badly.
Have you looked at the lineup? These games are no better than the best Xbox360.
If you can't wait 2 months then you have issues... -
