- djruden, on 10/12/2007, -6/+48I played this same demo setup at WalMart tonite. Why would sony send out a cancelled game to show off their new system?
Another bad sony decision... - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -19/+58I remember when some XBOX360 kiosks had the same artifacting. How'd 360 turn out?
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+44Maybe that's why the game in that demo was cancelled?
- slimthps, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35I thought NBA Live 07 for PS3 was cancelled??
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -20/+47Burn baby burn.
- Inferno52386, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28I'm glad Sony is going through a lot of the same problems that MS had at launch.
Sony fanboys gave us such crap for the over heating kiosks, and only having 1.5 million consoles at launch.
Well good luck with your 200k - 400k that Sony has so far. I'll wait till next year to buy one.
Until then, Gear of War for me! - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27It looked fine when i played it at my local Target. (not a fanboy, not buying a PS3, i just went on friday to target and gamestop to try out the wii and ps3)
- z00k, on 10/12/2007, -26/+47Faulty Systems, Root kits, and Bankruptcy, Oh My!
- Porkape, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Yes, it did get cancelled. I claim shenanigans here.
- bigrell486, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Thats exactly why that was a demo for NBA '07.
This IS NOT Nba Live '07 - Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I also played some racing game on the PS3 at target. It didn't freeze but the FPS kept dropping which was disappointing.
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -16/+30808 - Joke too gay
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -15/+29You can tell because it costs you $20 bucks to get near it. $10 to even touch it. Then the ps3 predicts your future, solves a rubix cube, explodes said rubix cube, then sends you on your way.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15No, I don't.
- SGagnon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The PS3 within the clear case is actually a dummy. The real PS3 playing the game is enclosed within the kiosk with ample of air flow. Don't believe me? Here's the proof...

- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Theone:
UMD is right where Sony designed it to be. It's on PSP only.
Yeah, it seems stupid, I don't disagree.
But UMD was meant to be a PSP proprietary format and it has remained so.
Hopefully the whole PSP will bite it anyway and we can kiss UMD off for good. - jotux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I didn't understand the link in your post at first, but now I realize it's just a "digg-down" indicator.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12hey i was Target the other day and they had the demo for this game up, but when i went to play it i noticed it frozen. not so good
- OverloadUT, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13NBA Live 07 is not going to be ready for launch, and that means that it's not even a finished game. Why they would demo this as opposed to the very stable and finished NBA 2k7 is beyond me.
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, I'm gonna trust a website that can't spell "lyrics" to accurately decipher the words to songs.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6And when you throw it at a wall, it makes a weird whistling sound, which is really annoying.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@del4
Don't insult Sega like that, Sega left the video game console market on one of the best systems they have ever created. - analogvoid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I had a friend tell me the kiosk he played on at Best Buy crashed on him. He said the kiosk looked to have poor airflow... heat issues i would hope. I'm going to wait for atleast the 2nd wave of PS3's. I'm sure there will be revisions.
- mavranos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I played the demo unit at my local Target. It worked fine. The console was in a full wall games case with plenty of space around it (had half the case to itself). I think the bigger problem is that the demo games are not that great. Nothing that makes me want one. The system nav is dull. The whole damn PS3 is dull. Its like Sony's goal was a Bluray player with the ability to play games.
- sohlemac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8OR the demo cabinet has ***** airflow and the unit is overheating.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6you don't think sony would have carefully checked ALL of the demo machines before shipping them to stores to put in the demo booths?
- xdevit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5lmao at the related link..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vBqCLfioH4 - mitrovarr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8There's only 3 possibilities here, none of them especially good:
Sony does not check them, despite their importance and their cost = Their QA is terrible.
Sony checks them but was forced to send one with this problem = The problems are rampant.
The PS3 is fine, but the game is buggy = The launch is rushed and everything is going to be full of bugs at first. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13I don't think Sony could survive another recall after the battery thing. For their sake I hope it's an isolated incident and for my sake I won't be in a hurry to get one.
- Jamminn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You dont have a clue about programming, do you?
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Shock horror demo unit destroyed. In other news, Nintendo DS at best buy has scratched touch screen and cracked hinge.
- da_dude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The actual unit is underneath, what is in the plexiglases is just a shell.
- plastek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I was going to blog about this. Saturday I was at Walmart when I saw their ps3 demo unit. Soon as I walked up it froze. Stood around for about 10 minutes, and it remained frozen. Made me laugh about the 21 hours I spent in line to get one.
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Never a problem with my Gamecube.
I've owned several PS1's and PS2's though. - joquarky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@DarkStalker:
It sounds like you either have incredibly bad luck, or something in your environment is disabling the hardware (lightning, humidity, dust, etc). - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Isn't the answer evident? I wouldn't even trust him with an operator.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Many revisions fixing little bugs will probably come in the form of firmware updates.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wow some randomd shot of a random screen.. Must be a ps3 that's bad because.. well. uh.....
You Fanboys have ruined digg. - DarkStalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I've had three Gamecubes, two PS1s and two PS2s - all dying due to disc read errors. Throw three Dreamcasts on the list too.
- Nukeem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is the proof that the PS3 fan-boys have been looking for!! The Xbox360 fan-boys have replaced all of the Kiosks with microwaves!! The PS3 will prevail!!
- Dhalsim007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4weird. I tried out the PS3 at a Target kiosk yesterday with the NBA demo and the Motorstorm demo, and had no such problems. Though, I did wonder how they were ventilating the kiosk...it looked a little airtight to me.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah, thats why I said it REMINDS me of a shattered lcd. I didnt say that was the problem.
- dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Not to nitpick but you mean *Rubik's cube.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, I'll bet many people who buy the PS3 will be looking at the graphics on their neighbor's Atari 2600 with awe and jealousy!
- DaBMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2at least the artifacts were in HD
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like my old Nvidia Geforce MX420 after I overclocked it and removed the heatsink to watch it die. Thats card was a piece of crap. Nothing against Nvidia though, I still use Nvidia cards in half my PCs, the other half have ATI. Both good. But its just funny how this brings back memorys.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, I do think Sony would have carefully checked them.
But messing up 4 times a day, as this says, is difficult to find. How long do you think each unit is tested for? Do you think a TV is attached to each one for hours and someone looks at it?
This is the kind of failure that could easily slip through.
All that having been said, apparently the video was shot from the screen of a 360 (see comments below). The same caveats apply to MS as well as Sony though.. - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OMG I'm not buying a PS3 now!...bleh
