- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -8/+39to the submitter of the story...did you just think that your previous game saves would MAGICALLY jump over to your ps3?
it is more cost effective to do it this way...since everyone who buys a PS3 won't have a PS2, and when you plop a ps2 disc into the tray it will save directly to the "virtual memory card"
all is well...if $15-$20 is too much...just keep your PS2 plugged in untill you save up the $20 (max) to buy one - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+39another shining example of how one PS3 related story
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Sony_confirms_PS3_Memory_Card_Adapter_for_PS2_and_PSone_save_game_transfer
Gets duped and digged less because it has less negative spin then another story. You guys crack me up. - stappawho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27It only sucks if it costs a lot. If it's only $10-$15 it's no big deal.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Let me guess one of the "ps3 sucks" articles that will be on the homepage tomorrow.. I Know!
Title: "PS3's power cord to be 1inch shorter then the PS2's!"
Details: "Looks like Sony is once again ignoring its customers needs. "

Geekhomie16: So what people? Its only 1 inch. -47 - mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Hey guys, I am all for bashing the PS3. But at least they provide some way to get your game saves from your old system to your new system, the 360 couldn't do that. I doubt Sony would of put a PS2 memory card slot in the PS3, that would of been retarted.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I feel XBOX360 got the short end of the BC stick. This is much better than nothing. Hell you can borrow one, copy everything to your PS3, give the adapter back and never need it again.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Are you seriously trying to make this out as a bad thing?
We don't know if it will be packaged with the system, we don't know the pricing.
Yet, again... it seems the new "Digg Effect" is to diss the PS3 any chance possible. - arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Borrow one from a friend, big deal? Or... Buy, and return. XD
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+27Dudes, YOU CAN PLAY OUT OF THE BOX.
All the emulated games will be playable out of the box, with no need for extra memory sticks or anything.
Saves into HDD without any warnings like the one I encountered with PS1 games on PS2...which needed old PS1 memory cards.
This is only needed IF you wanted to IMPORT PS1 or 2 game saves into your PS3 system.
As you know, 360 doesn't even provide official support.
Wii.....how is it even physically possible to transfer all the savefiles of its previous consoles except the gamecube...
The poster is really nuts. Why is he even complaining?
Oh, I get it, you hate playstation because you're insecure of your 360....GROW UP - truspector, on 10/12/2007, -17/+32........and the cost continues to rise. I love accessories.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Remind me how Nintendo let's you use old NES/SNES/N64 games and save games?
They make you rebuy them and you can't use old save games you say? Hmmm.
What about Super Mario Advanced, how many times did they charge you for individual games when Mario All Stars had them all? What about the NES classics for GBA? When other companies bundled 20 classics in one, how many came on each NES classic?
Don't make it seem like Nintendo isn't trying to squeaze you for every last penny either - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17If you're able to buy a ps3, I'm sure the cost for an accessory to do something which, to me, is not a necessity, is negligible. I try to stay neutral on the issue in a biased world, but stop hating on the ps3. If you think it's stupid, don't buy one.
- themacx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12funny I already putt ps2 save files on a usb stick......
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18Oh I forgot, PS3 will play an exponentially greater number of PS1/PS2 games than 360 plays XBOX games
- SeVeRyourTies, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14You are right that 360 got the crap deal on backwards-compatibility, Neo, but did you have to tell us "Oh I forgot, PS3 will play an exponentially greater number of PS1/PS2 games than 360 plays XBOX games"? Anyone that can't come to that conclusion on their own needs to have their head examined.
- TheRealDj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What I love is how almost every place I see the story, like on gamespot, its a positive thing. That hey its something the Xbox 360 can't do, but the bashers just use this to bash sony. Sony and Microsft atleast are developing hard drives for us to save everything and download a multitude of different things onto it. I have no idea how 512 MB on Wii will be of near any use, considering that half the demos on the 360 are bigger than that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If you don't like the PS3, then don't get it. Its as simple as that. Sony is telling us good news but it is how you perceive the news. For example, I think this is good news about the memory card. Why? Sony could've not provided a way of allowing you to transfer the data. People, like yourself, have already decided you are not getting the PS3. So whatever good news you hear about the PS3, you will not be impressed and you will not get it. Also, Sony shouldn't have to impress you. Most of the people here know what the PS3 is about and if you like what you are hearing/seeing, you will get it, if not, you won't get it.
- achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I love the slant in the subheading! First, the tone is completely negative, and in case you didn't get the point: "That just sucks."
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15@NeoTechni "360 plays XBOX games" correction it only plays a handful of Xbox games.
:-) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11For people that say that this sucks. I might be wrong but IIRC NONE of the next gen consoles except for the PS3 have the ability to import saves from the previous gen. So this might suck since you have to buy a cheap adapter but at least it's better than nothing. But of course sony wont get credit for this
- negativenancy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Sony really got the short end of the backwards compatibility stick."
What The *****?!
Short end of the backwards compatibility stick?! Then what the ***** is the 360? It can't even play all of the Xbox games, and even if you could... You have to waste hard-drive space just to do it... now THAT is really crappy backwards compatability. At least the PS3 allows you to play all the older games without emulation, as well as give you the option to move your saves into the PS3.
Grow up - P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7And you guys sure know how to smoke the anti sony pipe
- Siliticx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Still less costy than the 360 over time. stop complaining and crying and grow up.
- rimz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9at least they r doing better than the 360 when it comes down to this stuff! propz to sony
- hrdcregmer808, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Do i want to beat tekken 4, tag, and 5 all over again on hard just to satisfy myself? No thats why we need a ps2 memory card adapter...... Look I'm good with tekken, people know this, I go to my nearest arcade and I stay on the machine with like 2 credits all day, but people, I don't really like playing story mode truthfully, I just like playing it against people to see how good they are, memory card adapter on the ps3 = 2 thumbs up.....
- easycheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is mandatory. The technology on these memory cards is so old that it would be stupid to include any device on the system to read them and would probably make the core system more expensive... then all you guys complaining about the price would get your panties in such a jumble that your ass may just swallow them. Let it go, we should be used to spending ungodly amounts of money to handle our excessively nerdy lifestyles. I think I may just re-finance the house and buy that $18,000 nvidia gpu.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -15/+22sony is starting to lose my attention very quickly. if their antics keep going the way they appear to be i won't be buying a ps3 until they release a slim version for 129$.
and if the gas prices keep going up i won't be able to purchase anything ever again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hmmmmm I wonder if you can transfer data through the PSP's usb cord. I bought two of them and I can connect them together which can plug into my ps2 and computer's usb ports. Eitherway, I can use Action Reply and put all my saves on my 1gb usb stick.
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Smart move, I need to do that, if I decide to get a PS3.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If I'm not mistaken you can use your PS1 memory cards on the PS2 right? I also remember how you could use the PS1 Dual Shock controller on the PS2. I thought that was pretty awesome (because the PS1 pads were much cheaper) until the 2nd or 3rd gen games required you to use the PS2 Dual Shock.
And the Wii would be able to read the Gamecube memory cards. Not sure if it will be able to store Wii game saves on them though. - Murdoink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If it's too expensive I'll just re-play my old PS2 games, I don't see big deal about it.
- ripismoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually, this story makes me happy. Sony is going to produce an adapter, whether it comes standard or not, that allows you to port over saved games. Honestly, I wasn't expecting any way to do this. It's not like they had a memory card slot that was PS2 compatible on the PS3. This shouldn't be surprising, since we've never seen an old card slot on the PS3, just USB, CompactFlash & SD. Why is everyone so upset? Your saved game files weren't just going to electro-magically jump onto your PS3 anyway.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"Why is anyone surprised at Sony anymore? It's thier prime directive to squeeze as much out of everyone of thier hardcore fans as humanly possible. Only the hard core fans will buy a PS3. On;t the hardcore fanse will pay $60-$80 for A-List games. Only the hardcore fans will pay 'just another $15-$20' for this adapter."
All companies squeeze as much money of their consumers as possible. You are whats called ignorant, we are all ignorant but you are very ignorant. Hardcore fans are not going to be the only ones buying the PS3. The people who want a blu-ray player will buy the PS3. Many other different "types" and "groups" of people will buy the PS3. - Yokai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10At person above me (too lazy to read your name)
True, many of the things he said were not perfectly proven. However, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY for people to transfer their cartrige game data to the wii. The Wii only has one slot for the gamecube, which is still pretty good imo. However, PS3 has full backwards compatability and being able to transfer your save files is possible. Infact, sony may throw it into the bundle or you could just buy it for like 5 dollars on amazon. Honesty, people bitch about the price but they dont even know what the PS3 is really supporting.
I didnt see people bitching when Ipod sold their Music Player for 400 bucks... PS3 is a blu ray dvd player and is 600 dollars at max. Which one is a better deal... hmmm... I have to go with PS3. - burrito4891, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You know this is really not a big deal. You cant even transfer saves from the xbox to the 360, not to mention a lot of games dont even work. I'm just glad that we will have the ability to keep their saves. I'm probably not buying a ps3 for a few years, but in my book this is +1 for sony.
- iceblademan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sadly, I could see that scenario happening. The Digg effect eats it.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9what the hell are you talking about. The 360 can too save games on original xbox titles. I don't know where you got your information, but it's completely false.
- Yokai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Shugi:
This is digg, you grow to learn that thats all people ever do when sony says something... Bitch about it...
Oh wait, here is a funny idea. How about you assume the price of this cheap adapting piece of crap would probably be 10$? Or even better: How about you just replay the good games? I mean, games usualy have some replayability... Right? - seaniepants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What a biased headline. Instead of "PS3 needs adapater" how bout "PS3 opens new doors with memory adapter" as, from what I understand, Xbox 360 isn't compatible with previous saves. Maybe I'm wrong.
- mikeslemonade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just out of curiosity how many memory cards do you guys own? I have only one PS2 memory card for about 40 PS2 games.
- Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its just how it works in the real world.....people are always going to flock towards the bias side first. Sorta how people just want to see the violence in TV and not how they opened up a new animal shelter down the street. Controversy sells itself and in other words...........generates more attention on digg.
Kinda sad - cameroncrzy3122, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is no different from xbox and xbox 360. At least sony is giving you an adapter....
- LocalH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Geekhomie16: So what people? Its only 1 inch. -47"
LAUGHING ON-LINE - PunkFenixJT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4well.....I dont mean this towards the actual poster in general..but....
Thank You Captain Obvious. This has been known since the orignal ps3 was shown...there was no memory card slots. I knew from day one there would more than likely be a USB adaptor for ps2 cards or something...i find this to be no big deal whatsoever - Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sega Genesis came with sonic if i recall.
- Shugii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I don't understand, didn't this happen when ps1 moved over to ps2, you weren't able to use your ps1 memory card on the ps2. If people are whining that they can't be bothered beating their games, let me ask you, why did you buy it in the first place? To play it once and have that satisfaction and never touch it again? People just want another reason to bash the ps3, why don't they just get a life and stop wasting another row on digg.
- fingiecrookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ Dgen_X: "it is more cost effective to do it this way...since everyone who buys a PS3 won't have a PS2, and when you plop a ps2 disc into the tray it will save directly to the "virtual memory card""
Dude, you like, totally used both the terms "PS3" and "cost effective" in one sentence! - ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know about that because all Action Replay saves are compressed and only AR can read them, at least theres still uLaunchELF as it allows uncompressed saves to your usb stick. Take that MagicGate technology!
- herogear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+320 bucks in the shadow of a 600 dollar purchase of a toy seems like nothing worth complaining about.
And I actually think it's kinda cool that you can put PS2 saves on virtual memory cards in the system. Much better than trying to keep/remember where my PS2 cards are... - jjlkalkaska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is still better than the option on my 360 for bringing saves over from my Xbox. By which I mean there isn't one.
