http://static.bethsoft.com/fo3/fallout.mov - ACrazyGerman, on 10/11/2007, -11/+19If they make Fallout 3 into a FPS/RPG like people have been talking about then I for one will not buy it, I want a true Fallout 3 game not a Oblivion game set in a waste land.
- SpectralSounds, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24I hope it's as good as Fallout 2. Not some lame attempt to cash in on an old, but good franchise.
- violentvinyl, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14@ACrazyGerman (#7031382)
I enjoyed Fallout and Fallout 2 because of the engaging, open ended story line, the fabulous setting, and the razor sharp wit. If they manage to incorporate all that with an immersive, interactive 3D environment, I'll be just as happy, if not more so.
Imagine the possibilities for vehicle travel and squad based combat. Multiplayer Co-op maybe? - CedEx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11@ ACrazyGerman
And FPS/RPG wouldn't be that bad. They have tons of games like that, but they are always set in fantasy world settings, with swords and magic.
Rarely do you get a game in that genre set in the future. Deus Ex was a great game... - ACrazyGerman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@violentvinyl
Have you ever played Morrowind or Oblivion same company I doubt they are suddenly gonna make a multilplayer game. - Desolite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22this news makes me want to search book cases.

What made Fallout great had nothing to do with what genre it was in, or what the frickin' camera perspective was. It was cool because it was funny, because you had to make moral choices, because it was a world full of gritty detail, and because the conversations were engaging. The only problem I see is that FO3 will end up being as bland as Oblivion, character-wise or story-wise. - crackedplastic, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2Trailer? That's a movie term.
Nice Fallout 3 commercial. - staffell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20give me a kiss to build a dream on!
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@ stonedonkey
You've got the right idea, not many games really make you feel or think. Recently games have been lacking in story department, nobody really cares about their character, rather they just pray and spray. I look forward to Fallout 3 being something more than just mindless game play. - Stonedonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I meant to say that it *might* end up having bland characters and plot like Oblivion. I think Bethesda will do fine with the rest of it -- I'm just not confident about the story and the people.

Err... www.gametrailers.com ? - crackedplastic, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1@GeneralBison:
Trailer is a movie term, as the previews used to appear at the end of the movie. Yes, it's advertising; however the term is associated with films. Associating that with games is pretty lame (much like Mountain Dew and skateboarding/skydiving), since the word "commercial" doesn't have a positive connotation. - lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://stage6.divx.com/user/lothar250/video/1292049/Fallout-3-Teaser
DIVX Streaming - arthurdent42, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0Fallout was one of the best franchises. But its time has passed, like most games now days if it doesn't appeal to the madden/halo console fanboys it wont sell nearly as well as it should.

I did play Oblivion, it was a little TOO open ended for me to be honest. I realize Bethesda's track record doesn't include much other than Action/Adventure, Sports, and Racing, but it doesn't mean they're incapable of expanding their horizons. Call it wishful thinking.
To put it another way, imagine if Oblivion was an MMO instead?
- fryerseb, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4Trailer is out now !!! Enjoy =)
- LoveNLive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3The game looks amazing! I hate thinking I have to wait now for like 3-5 years...lol

I have never more eagerly awaited a game in my life. I have high hopes for this. I just hope they allow me to get dogmeat back.- swiftekho, on 10/11/2007, -21/+3I reinstalled Starcraft and I am waiting on pins and needles for Starcraft II...
Fallout already got a sequel... I think SC2 is more anticipated though - Somniis, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Fallout 2 wasn't nearly as good as FO1. It's got too much random BS in it (talking Deathclaws, talking rats) to take it seriously... at least, that's my opinion. I got bored with it when I entered Klamath for the first time!
- Phayde415, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Pipe Rifle FTL. The first time I played FO2 I quit after getting that weapon and getting owned by Geckos. But I bought it again recently when I heard FO3 was in the works and went all the way through. I thought it was great! My favorite witty moment is the scientologist camp in China Town run by two insane actors/actresses.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5the talking rat was funny, it was supposed to be lie pinky and the brain.
- rosefu, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3Baldur's Gate 3 would have kicked Fallout 3's ass.
But I mourn that it shall never come to pass. - aboyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@rosefu
Just FYI, BG3 is getting built by Sawyer in his spare time. He's using the original design documents from back when BG3 was in development, and he's using the NWN 2 engine. You can read about it here:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/interviews/theblackhound1.php
So you'll get BG3, but it's going to take a while (he's building it on his own) and it's going to be 100% his vision -- he's no fan of romance dialogue, so that's completely dropped, along with a few other things he's not interested in doing. I'm still looking forward to it. - Lavarock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@phayde415

nothing from the halo series is worth "excitement" - Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -10/+22Amen, Halo is the most over hyped game there is. I fail to see why people are going crazy over that crap.

http://www.nma-fallout.com/features/vault/mistert/index.html - markg483, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17I have to wait a year and a half? I find it sadistic to have that teaser to the teaser up for a month, then show us the trailer to only have us to discover we must wait a year and a half for the game to be released. Personally, there's no need to announce anything at all until six months before it hits the shelves. That's my belief, I could be wrong.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Especially when it's projected that far ahead, they usually delay it for an additional 8 months.
- TheStrangeBrew, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9And then have to wait another 3 mos for patches so the game will work properly!
- Narayan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I love that they are still using the ink spots for the music and the power armor looks just as awesome as always. Well worth the wait.

No, its just people using pop-culture terminology and having no knowledge of what it actually means. - superdupergc, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3look at the definition from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk
steampunk is "retro-futuristic", to quote you.

- XivGNP, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12GAH, I'm trying very, very hard not to utterly geek out over 2 min. worth of teaser footage, but god damn it is near impossible. Now I just need to either actually get a 360 or upgrade my PC. Screw all the haters, Brotherhood of Steel 4 LIFE.
- WSADIKJL, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Many of my friends seem to have the opinion that Fallout 3 will fail simply because it's being done by Bethesda. I'm of the opinion that this is a series that less than a year ago seemed as if it was never coming back, therefore I'm simply happy that there is at least going to be an attempt at a sequel. F1 and F2 were great. Here's to hoping this one's even better!
- PureHeretic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15i think fallout 3 is going to top it off, especially since its being done by bethesda
i dont understand why people are putting down Bethesda, but for whatever reason they're morons... - Phayde415, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Agreed, I'd rather have crappy FO3 rather then no FO3. If worst comes to worst you can just uninstall it and act like it never happened.
However, I remember reading about how excited Bethesda was about FO3 even when they had to work on Oblivion. I have faith that they know what they're doing and they know what FO is all about and will keep it close to its roots. - Ignignokt01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The reason fallout fans are worried about Bethesda are:
1. They seem to dislike Fallout fans, think they're just too hardcore of fans that will NEVER be satisfied with WHATEVER they do, which is not true, at least for the one I know, including myself.
2. Their idea of open-ended gameplay just means you have lots of different random quests you can take, ala morrowind and oblivion. Whereas in the fallout games, not only did you have many different options for quests, but the main quest itself had many different paths, AND you had moral choices THROUGHOUT the entire game. That's something you STILL don't find in current games, even games like Fable.
3. Part of Fallout's charm WAS in the core mechanics of the game, so if they just make Oblivion with guns and an apocalyptic theme (meaning its first person, auto-leveling, all that jazz), I promise you it won't feel and play anything like a Fallout game.
If they DO however keep the core mechanics of the first two games intact, and make improvements on them, and give us a free-bird's eye view (like neverwinter nights), I'm betting most fallout fans will actually be geniunely excited for the game. - aboyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12@PureHeretic,
The reason people don't trust Bethesda is because they make games that do not use any of the gameplay elements of Fallout. For example, they don't have dialogue trees. They don't do turn-based combat. They don't use isometric view for more tactical battles. They DO create very pretty games that are dumbed-down (example: becoming champion in the ring at 1st level).
Having said that, I'm not sure it needs all of that. I don't like turn-based combat much, although Temple of Elemental Evil is a recent exception. But I have to say that I much, MUCH prefer dialogue trees as in KotOR, NWN, BG. I also very much prefer level restrictions, as in BG and so on. If I try to battle Firkraag the dragon in Baldur's Gate 2, but I am low level, then the game does nothing to weaken the dragon for me. Instead, I just get my ass kicked. I find that to be much more rewarding. I work hard, gain power, and tackle things that were previously impossible.
Hopefully Bethesda will offer something with a few new changes that really enhance gameplay, but without the dimwitted drawbacks. - Sivvy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@aboyd My thoughts exactly.
- triskele, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ Ignignokt01: Shame on you for comparing Fable to any game from the golden age of BIS.
- PureHeretic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15i think fallout 3 is going to top it off, especially since its being done by bethesda
- InsaneOni, on 10/11/2007, -16/+2From what I saw in the teaser, and the information from Bethesda that it was in fact rendered in-engine, I'm venturing a guess that it'll be 3rd person. There is no way the graphics they showed there could compete with next gen FPS games like Crysis and UT.
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Have you played Fallout 1 or 2? It's not a shoot-em-up. Fans of the series don't play the games for graphical appeal. Who cares if Crysis looks better? Not any Fallout fans.
- CalipsoII, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18But can Crysis and UT compete with FO3 ...
FOR MY HEART? - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i sure hope it's 3rd person, and sure hope they aren't trying to make this game compete in any way shape or form with Crysis or UT
- InsaneOni, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3@zyl0x - You're missing my point. I've played FO1 and 2 and Tactics many times (ok, I only played half of tactics, it wasn't that great). I personally don't care about the graphics either. However, you have to realize that this is a computer game designed to make money and graphics are one of the main money makers out there. Crysis will be successful because of its engine no matter what. With that said, what I'm saying about FO3 is that it will probably be top view like the previous ones, true to the originals because the engine doesn't look like its designed for an FPS.
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6if that trailer represents the real game engine graphics, i think it kicks ass for an RPG. They are using the Oblivion engine after all. Personally I don't like the look of Oblivion, but it's because of design, not the engine. This trailer is already showing a lot more style than Oblivion has.
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9You can digg me down, but I have to say this:

Touche'! - ShadySpace, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11You can't call yourself a Fallout fan if you don't even use the proper in-game terminology, "quirks"? You're both wrong, Bloody Mess is a trait. Traits were a starting choice that couldn't be upgraded, perks were rewards to certain aspect of your character from leveling up. Oh, and no one ever chose bloody mess, it was a waste of a tag.

- wallish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2FPS/RPG is not a terrible medium for Fallout. Both System Shock 2 and Deus Ex were two of the best games ever. I can see Fallout 3 succeeding if it was put into FPS/RPG form.
- EdgarVerona, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Crap... I didn't realize these guys made Deus Ex too. That was the only FPS I could ever tolerate playing (due to its incredible semi-RPG integration), and it had the most enthralling storyline I'd seen in a game... aside from Fallout. This actually makes me feel a lot better: I had no idea they made Deus Ex. That game was a ***** masterpiece (the first one at least... I still haven't gotten to trying the sequel).

I guess some UK company got the rights to distribute it or something, and now they're doing so (along with a bunch of awesome extra stuff that was found in the special editions) all in one 20$ package. Great deal. =)
Just finished 1 again, and found there was a LOT to the game that I didn't find when I was a kid. A whole backstory that I missed. Playing through 2 again, but I don't think I possibly could have missed that much in 2. I tried Tactics for the first time as well because of this disc, but the heavy fighting element turns me off of it a bit.
Anyways though, I'm right there with you on the playing it again thing. =) - Memitim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That is one of the best parts about Fallout. I can't really think of any games that have better replayability. I've finished the main storylines about a dozen different ways and tried every kind of character from persuasive peaceniks to psychotic murderers and they are all plausible.

- keithburgun, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2Um... this game's gonna suck you do all realize that right? POWER ARMOR GUY TURN TO THE CAMERA *CUT TO BLACK* BRILLIANT!! What an original trailer. The reason they reused the Fallout 1 song is becuase they do not have the creativity and sense of style that Black Isle had. They are trying their best to play it safe. But this game will be Oblivion with Guns, make no mistake. This game will suck, suck, suck and will tarnish the Fallout name even further than it has already been tarnished by the OTHER sequels (excluding 2 of course).
- CalipsoII, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5... from wikipedia:
"The song that plays during the intro sequence is titled "Maybe" and is sung by The Ink Spots. The original theme was going to be "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire", also by The Ink Spots, but apparently Black Isle was unable to get the license, so it was scrapped. The song "Maybe" that appears in the opening cinematic of Fallout is originally by Allan Flynn & Frank Madden and is copyright 1935 by Robins Music Corporation."
So what you're saying is one time you found a demo on a disk circa ~1990, played it, didn't like it, and think that gives you some kind of license to spout off. RIIIIGHT. - tyme, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The only thing worse than hyping a game based on a trailer/teaser that comes out over a year before release is dissing a game based on it.
I look at Fallout 3 apprehensively. Bethesda could make a really good game, well worth playing and true to the originals, or they could completely screw it up. Both are very real possibilities, but we should all be saving our judgment for a time when there's a bit more information than an extremely early teaser/trailer.
- CalipsoII, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5... from wikipedia:
- demonsnake69, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Heh, people almost forgot about this game thanks to all the Starcraft 2 hype.
- Dillywin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0Butterflies
- miborovsky, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Oh my God...
I completely forgot about Fallout when SC2 was announced...
Damn.
It's gonna be awesome. - vulgrin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Wasteland, the "prequel" to Fallout was one of my favorite games growing up. Funny how back then you had to look up paragraphs of text in a book, to get the story.
- mandarin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah i miss the story on the desert rangers and that miami fountain thing.
- MrFoodMonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Fall 2008 is wayyyy too long of a wait. Damn.
- triskele, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Since it's Bethesda, and they've stolen a good chunk of my life with other titles that were quite a while in the making, they can take as long as they want as far as I'm concerned. Yes it's a long wait, but it'll be worth it.
- lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Like the Fallout 1 (i think) quote at the end was the best about all the trailer... I don't like how "big" and dark Fallout 3 is... Fallout used to be about a huge wasteland where there were small gangs raiding others and stuff. I don't like the huge cities and the dark atmosphere in the trailer.
Shoulda stayed a 2d top-down game imho- miborovsky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3... but even in FO 1&2 there was the Cathedral, the military base, Vault City, Adytum... etc. I don't see how DC is different.
- lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Well it's much bigger! It's not like small and mysterious... It's big and it looks kinda more like STALKER than Fallout. They're trying too hard to make the game look spectacular and like a movie. Fallout 1 and 2 were so unboastful
- EdgarVerona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, they wanted to do it up big because it's possibly the most anticipated RPG in the history of the PC RPG. Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior may have gotten people breaking into stores in Japan back in their prime, but on the console no RPG is bigger... and the seething masses of Fallout fans have been waiting for this game for a long, long time... and hoping that these new guys won't piss all over it. If the game's elements are kept as well as the trailer kept them, it'll be good.
- Piewnisher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh man, I can't wait for this one!
- Phlogiston, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Was that Ron Perlman??
- aboyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it is. The developer replied on the Bethesda forums that they had indeed used the Inkspots & Ron Perlman for the trailer.
- PirateJaxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I pretty much creamed when I heard that voice. I'm happy with the teaser, it's very Fallout, lets just hope they get the game play right. This is a good sign of sticking to the roots of the series.
- GrizzlyWG, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Admittedly I've never played any Fallout games, but that looks like a destroyed City 17 from Halflife2. That sure looks like the Combine Citadel.
- PirateJaxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5it's DC, after a nuclear war. That's the Washington Monument
- miborovsky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That "Combine Citadel" is the Washington Monument. You just compared a symbol of America to the headquarters of an evil alien race. Good job. Expect a visit from your neighborhood CIA agent soon.
- ColonelGS, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Dear God, please let it be a Rick Roll video. I would laugh so hard
- EvilFerret, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Dear God,
I'm going to ***** kill you and your entire family if you let Bethesda ***** this one up.
- EvilFerret, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Dear God,
- flashingcurser, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Hey, just got some jet from jammin jimmy j... heh
- shivamib, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Oh, dear. Here we go again.
I for one welcome our new bubblegum-chewing, ass-kicking overlords. - Fallout911, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3*fap fap fap fap fap*
- Jason4000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Super mutants and robots kick ass.
- shivamib, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Specially when they're all outta gum.
- Stegg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I hope this thing stays turn based. Please let it be turn based..
- Tacobake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Somebody at some point is going to release the Great New RPG, the spiritual successor to Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2 and Fallout 1/2. And I hate to say it much as I love them but I don't think it's going to be Bathesda. Maybe I just don't want to get my hopes up.
- keppj0nes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This was such a tease. I am anxiously awaiting details on the gameplay. The graphics are amazing, and the attention to detail is great, for all those people whining about not enough tubes and vintage posters. You got what you wanted! What a tease. This was heartbreaking for the video to end.
- EdgarVerona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2To me it wasn't a tease... it was a good sign.
Does anyone remember Fallout: Tactics? Even Interplay fell away from the Fallout traditions when it came to their intros when they made tactics. I think this trailer was meant to show people "hey, we know what Fallout's about. Don' worry about it."
I had about 6 people at my house today, and when I saw the trailer link I clicked... when it got to "War. War never changes." my house erupted into applause and 20-something geeks throwing up the horns. This one's been a long time coming.
- EdgarVerona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2To me it wasn't a tease... it was a good sign.
