- apothekari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39Hey Everyone!!!
I'M RADIATING FUN!!!! - thomasprebble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Sony fanboys still exist?
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33@shadowstorm:
Come on, seriously. If PS3 was kicking Wii's ass you KNOW PS3 fanboys would be rubbing it in every second they got. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Who knew cancer could be so entertaining?!?!
- Partyworm, on 10/12/2007, -11/+35I'm sorry, but you are in the hardcore minority that likes to sit on their ass for hours on end getting lost in virtual fantasy worlds.
The casual majority aren't interesting in this kind of gaming, they want something that's both fun and physically stimulating at the same time. Myself included.
I wish people would stop analyzing the Wii from their perspective as a hardcore gamer and assume everyone feels the same way. Realize you speak for the minority and aren't a spokesperson for the rest of the gaming community who just want to have some light hearted fun every now and then. - joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26'Blowling' your sister? I'm intrigued, is it like blowing and licking? Either way dude, your family is ***** up.
- wipey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25other factors like how long the 360's been out?
- radio1mike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I do not own a Wii. If I want serious 'hardcore' gaming; I'll play on my PC where, mouse+keyboard >> game control pad. The Wii, is the first console that looks like you can have genuine goofy fun, even with people who don't normally game.
Real genius. They scored a friggin home-run vs. the most-anticipated video game system ever. - saska, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I lol'd. It's a $250 impulse buy that I stood in line to preorder and rushed out to pick up at midnight on launch day.
It's a $250 impulse buy that is selling on eBay for at least $50 over retail.
I'm not a fangirl (although I have, and love, the Wii). However, every time a Sony executive opens his mouth and drops a turd like this, it deserves ridicule. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Paging Dr. Freud!
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It seems like these days though people are using the term "fanboy" to describe anyone who actually has an opinion about something. Just because some people make decisions about things and have personal preferences does not *automatically* make them a fanboy. I think you all need to calm down.
Them: "Hi there. I bought a Wii and I like it"
You: "Fanboy! Get out of here!" - SimonJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12A console which has fun, simple, multiplayer games? My mum can play blowling with my sister, try getting them two to play Halo! Nintendo have tapped into a new market here and are reaping the rewards, its simple.
- tryfound, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9“Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” he declared.
That comment makes Sony sound somewhat bitter...pfft. I've had my mum and all her middle-aged Christian women's group playing at it getting all sweaty and puffed out with Wii Sports. They seriously love it more than I do, I haven't seen one dull reaction from the scores of people coming through my house having a turn.
I just sit on my butt and play Zelda though. - maxx77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Software2 is saying that the Wii is catching up to the 360. In just a few months, it has 1/3 the install base of the 360. It'll eclipse the 360 this year at this rate, in other words.
I don't know what other factors he means, but that's what his statement about 1/3 meant. He's not saying the 360 has sold more, he's saying that the Wii is catching up, fast. - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Paragraphs are your friend.
- Sonic84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9the wii sounds like fun, now if only I could find one...
- ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Another article written by a moronic reporter or someone who just want to drum up the Wii bandwagon story.
He got the price thing right at the least, any moron would rather buy a cheaper system given a choice.
So why are people buying the Wii over the PS3? Because its FUN damnit.
You buy game consoles to play games and have fun, not because it has the best and greatest graphics (that helps though) and not because we want to jump around like a damned monkey who had his drink spiked with viagra, we do that even with the xbox or PS2, no, the Wii is fun to play and that's why it's kicking the PS3's butt. - deepmenace, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12thomasprebble : no, there are no sony fanboys. fanboys are close-minded ***** who alienate the casual reader.
welcome to digg. - glacius99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Sony fanboys wouldn't be rubbing it in b/c the PS2 was such a beast that they just got to sit there and play games and *enjoy* their system.. Kinda like what everyone should be doing instead of harassing other gamers when their system is "losing" or "winning"..
Go play games and have fun, no matter what system you're playing on.. - DPimp1262, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know what I found interesting is that as much as people are bashing it as a sony hate article this is the first one that says that sony is still selling well. It's only one sentence but it state quite clearly that the ps3 is selling out by the end of the week usually just no where near as fast as the wii. Whatever. If a job comes through I'm getting every system I can afford. I love the PS3 from what I played of it and I love it's customizability. You don't have to wait for a Microsoft custom expensive hdd to get more space and it works supposedly flawlessly with linux. I haven't had the joy of testing it. The 360's still cool because of halo 3 and you just can't beat xbox live. As for the wii.......you'd be expecting me to rip on it now......but I already have one and I love the little *****. I just need some more controllers. Everyone on this site that rips on any of these system needs to calm down. They all are awesome.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ArchonSG I like what you said. one thing Nintendo did right is they nailed their launch line-up of games. With Zelda, Wario-ware, Excitetruck, etc..
I think both X360 and PS3 would both be doing a lot better if they had a stronger line-up of games. Both X360 and PS3 do have a good line up coming up throughout the rest of the year and early 2008 so it will be an interesting year in gaming to see what happens. - mrTribal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Goddamn dude, I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't be ***** reading that whole spiel.
- jasonpoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3“At the end of the day, Wii is a terrific secondary system for hard-core gamers,” Mr. Gerstmann of Game- Spot said. But he added that many such gamers had not yet embraced PlayStation 3. “They’re waiting for the good games to come out,”
That's right, I am a hard-core gamer but there is no point for me to get the PS3 till this moment. I'm waiting for the PS3's MGS4, FF13, Devil May Cry 4...I'm fine with my Wii now - ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@bchow
Carefull, you are showing your age here. :)
Wonders how many actually remembers that game.
Fun > Graphics - greenreefer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The machine is great, expanding the base of gamers, folks having fun. I just hate the name. I picture a five year old, running around his room, talking like Elmer Fudd. But it is nice, safe, childlike, non-threatening.
Opposite of the making the creepy the baby cry ominousness of the Sony ad, for example.
Parents are still spooked by shooters, and the whole gaming "Couch potato" image, etc. Wii counteracts that.
All three of the systems and games are overpriced.
PS2 is still selling like crazy because of this.
NYT article means mainstream recognition, will affect Sony stock price. - SimonJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4OMG... Blowing should read Bowling as in Wii Sports - Bowling
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So many people speak of high quality graphics and good gameplay as if they're mutually exclusive. Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii but I'd love it even more if it had superb hi def graphics on top of it's fun factor
- snoox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2more sensationalism for nerds. When I want to exercise, I exercise. Sorry Digg nation "Radiating fun" = the most limp wristed phrase ever.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was an impulse buy for me. If I actually had a chance to try it out before buying it, I am not sure that I would have a Wii right now. I am more of a hardcore gamer and find the Wii to be kind of over-rated. It was pretty fun at parties the first couple of weeks, but these days, when my friends come over and we drink some beers, we are back to mostly playing fighting games like Tekken 5 and DOA4.
- vashgunfighter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yikes, wall-o-text up there. Anyway, I'm not surprised that the Wii is doing as well as it is. It's fun. I've played the PS3 and, to be honest, it kinda blows. The games are pretty mediocre and before anyone says "Well it'll have killer apps later!", I would just like to say it's sad when people are buying a system for what it will EVENTUALLY get. I bought the Wii for Zelda, Wario Ware, and Trauma Center right off the bat. Some awesome games to start a new system. I'm content with what I have right now. The Wii delivered some sweet games right away. The PS3 is more promising "Hey, it'll be cool in a few months! Buy it now, though!" I'll be going to play my Wii and enjoy my games now.
- UKMusicFan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well not the first time, but I can easily see a point where a non-gamer is introduced to the Wii after watching an established Wii player playing, and sooner or later they'll pluck up the courage to go on the console all by themselves when no-one else around. My brother-in-law has reported that his dad now comes round just to play Wii so much that he's thinking of buying him one for his dad's birthday.
- nimbletimble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dave Karraker, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said the Wii did not belong in the same category as the more powerful PlayStation 3. “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” he declared.
Sony deserve everything Nintendo throw if that's they're approach - jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought my wife would like it, she says it sucks. She got frustrated after about an hour and hasn't turned it on since.
If the little finger is off the screen she get's frustrated trying to find it. I think they should have it where you can hit the "A" button and the finger automatically jumps to the center of the screen in the menu. - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, it's tough to come up with much that they did wrong with it, so of course most articles are going to be pro-Wii.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There's nothing wrong with buying it on impulse, except that people who have been searching for one for weeks might try to distract you with shiny things and take it. (These are Nintendo fans. They don't rob you at gunpoint.)
The point is, the Wii cannot be an impulse buy. As pointed out elsewhere in this discussion, an impulse buy is something that is just sitting around and you think "Hey, I should get that." Given the lack of availability and tremendous demand, there's no way to define it as that.
Plus, only a Sony executive would be so out of touch with the average family's finances as to think $250 (more like $400 by the time you have extra controllers and games) constitutes an impulse buy. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I must have confused my definition of impulse buying...standing in line all night to buy a Wii to play = impulse buying.
Standing in line all night to buy a PS3 to sell on EBay = Devoted fan base.
Ahh...I get it now. - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I showed my Wii to pretty much everyone who visits my house. So far, I still don't know anyone IRL who owns a Wii though. They all thought that it was kind of neat, but that's it.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@greenreefer What is kind've ironic though is I wouldn't let any kid under about 12 play it without constant supervision. Have you seen these kids playing with the Wii remotes! My kids managed to scuff my 65" TV by hitting it with one of the Wii remotes the very first day. That is something I never worried about when they played gamecube. Thankfully it's only a scuff and they didn't actually break the screen.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Though, the fact the it was so popular, made the devs try harder to really push its capabilities to the max. I mean, look at ***** like Tekken 5 and God of War and tell me what the graphics are not good.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My wife loves it for the Wii Bowling, and she's looking forward to the that Cooking Momma title. She also likes to watch the rest of us make fools out of ourselves playing Warioware.
And my wife normally hates videogames that are Tetris or Bejweled. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dunno about other parts of the country, but here in Denver, PS3 isn't really selling at all. I have some friends who work at Gamestop and Best Buy, and they're telling me the PS3s come in and stay in, while they'll get 9-15 Wiis per week, and they're gone within a few hours.
PS3 isn't selling because it's a heavy price point to justify for one good game so far. PS2 will continue to outsell it in 2007 and probably into 2008 without much difficulty, and then I expect to see the PS3 really pick up steam in mid-2008.
I hope the Wii has the kind of staying power to remain a competitive player, launch titles were awesome, and I'd love to see more, but it's looking like we're having the Q1 drought when it comes to game releases, so it'll be May or June before we see anything definite.
A good multiplayer title for the Wii like Metroid 3 the new Pokemon fighting game would help a lot too. - freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There seem to be a lot of wii articles don't they? Well I guess it shows how many people are intrigued by it. I don't think the Wii is suffering as much as a "game drought" as the gamecube did however. Last 1 or two years of my gamecubes life we didn't buy much of anything, because we didn't think there was much of anything. At least with the Wii we have SSX Blur ( sometime in March ;exclusive) and Sonic and the Secret Rings ( Feb 20th; exclusive), then after your done playing with those Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Brawl, and Mario Galaxy should be coming out steadily in the months to follow. (Probably in that order all those killer First Party games will hit the scene who else thinks MP3 will be one of the best games to hit the wii?)
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually I bought it on an impulse buy what's wrong with that? The only part that wasn't an impulse buy was the extra controller, I bought a Wii remote and nunchuk and it game out to $65. Kind've shocked me since the system is aimed at group play.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing worth getting?
Zelda, Excite Truck, Rayman, Wii Sports, Warioware, all worth getting, all a blast to play. I haven't turned on my 360 since XMas morning.
Eye Candy takes a distant 2nd to great control and sheer fun IMO. - kbtry414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1“Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” huh, $250 for the system at least 60 for another wiimote + Nunchuck and 50 for another game does not = impulse buy for the average person. Another example of Sony being out of touch
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HD graphics and affordability *are* mutually exclusive, however.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But most of us don't have Wiis and therefore want to keep hearing about it...
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As much as I love my Wii, I'm getting sick out of my mind of hearing about how and why it's successful in every third gaming article on Digg.
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you'll see that past the Q1 drought that every new console suffers from, Nintendo will bring some nice titles to the market in April or May of this year. Sure, they'll be a smattering of 3rd party ports from other consoles, but if sales on the Wii stay strong, and I believe they will, you'll see some great titles coming down the pipe from 1st and 3rd party developers. SSX Blur is coming, along with a Burnout title, I think these are only the beginning.
