2000 Wii points will be roughly $24 Canadian. - icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57I'm pretty sure IBM didnt work on the broadway chip for 2 years just to overclock it...
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45Wii Sports is kinda like Combat for the 2600; it was a great bundle piece that gave people a bunch of simple multiplayer games to get things flowing right out of the box. I see Wii Sports filling that gap.
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45Plus the GPU is totally new with shaders and way better antialiasing.
- Reyclaw, on 10/12/2007, -9/+47Too bad it ships with Wii sports. I could have saved some money. Makes sense though. I think many people are put off by the fact that if you buy a console you cant actually use it until you buy a 50 dollar game. This seems like a good move for appealing to a more mainstream audience.
On the other hand, only shipping with one remote was a terrible decision. I thought the "Wii" name basically stood for multiplayer gaming. Doesn't make sense to me...
Release date is a little later than I had hoped for but I guess it doesn't really surprise me. Releasing it in the US first also doesn't sup rise me. The US is simply a larger market than Japan.
Now all I can hope for is that the new remote is truly a revolution. Can't wait for Nov. 19! - icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+45Personally I'm just disppointed in the $60 controller price.. If I want to introduce wii to my non-gamer friends and family I'm going to Need another controller... I can already see the hole in my wallet where money used to be
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29With xbox live for free, and a bundled game, and access to download & play tons of classic games? Perhaps.
- icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28I guess it really comes down to which philosophy you prefer. Seems to me that youre the type of person who thinks "new" in gaming goes hand in hand with new in tech.
Personally I think new experiences are worth more in the entertainment industry than new tech. - IheartZombies, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31uh...don't buy it then?
- isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26So I checked out thrustbucket's profile and past diggs. He has constantly recieved - diggs for his comments. I couldnt find a single comment he has made recently above 0 diggs.
Maybe you should just stop posting... - CamoChris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Hey thrustbucket there is a reply button you know, look I'm using it now, you should have used it instead of starting new posts every time someone disagreed with you.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"Nintendo is forcing people to buy a game that they can show to their friends."
That evil Nintendo! It's horrible, they're holding me at gunpoint and making me promise I'll give them $250 on November 19th! It's not even as if I'm getting anything in return! Ever! ;_; - tiraid, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23The controller price actually makes this pretty expensive. $250 for the machine and one controller. I wanted a 4 player system. That's $180 for controllers, for a grand total of, $430. Now, maybe 4 player games won't require the nunchuk add-on, so minus $60, it's $370. But, that's just to play wii sports. Add $50 if you wanted to play a different game. I'm disappointed. I'm sure the other consoles are still more expensive. Does anyone have the numbers for the other systems with 4 controllers and 2 games, just to be fair?
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16You may not need to, if Nintendo can ship the volumes they are planning on. With over two months of production leadtime (way more than the PS3 and more than the 360), there should be enough to satisfy everyone.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -19/+33So is 600 buck worth an overclocked PS2? Hell, more like an overclocked PS1. The Wii is an immense improvement that keeps the strengths of the previous console and adds much, much more. Let's not forget that both the Sony consoles that shipped more than 100 million both cost 1/5 more than the Wii at launch, without counting inflation.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@djsyndrome: He meant $60 for the full package... $40 for the wand, $20 for the nunchuk
@tiraid: You're going to have to spend some money if you want 4 players. It's far worse for the other systems, so you really shouldn't have much to complain about. The console is $150 less than the others, games are $50... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16It all comes down to why you like to play the new games.
Whether you like the physical gameplay experience of the Wii, or the eye candy of the PS3. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@reyclaw:
X360 Core with two extra wired controllers, one wireless controller and memory unit = $470*
X360 Premium with three extra wireless controllers = $550
PS3 with three extra wireless controllers (assuming $50 per, no price announced yet) = $750
(* The Wireless controller is needed because the 360 will only support three wired controllers) - hollowmedia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I totally have a Wiirection.
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19haha... the fan boys don't like you!
SHOCK! - hizzle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Should've came w/ two controllers
should've shipped sooner
should've been cheaper...
damn't nintendo - the_atomic_ned, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14If the 360 is radically diffrent from the Xbox and the Wii is just an overclocked gamecube then:
Why do all the 360 games feel like overclocked Xbox games?
When Wii games feel radically diffrent? - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@beanfeast:
ALL games will not be available on the Virtual Console. It's simply impossible. Not all companies have signed up, and some of the companies in question have long since died and/or had their game properties bought out multiple times.
Definitely no Rare games, so no Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, etc.. Heck, even if Rare was onboard we still wouldn't see Goldeneye on the Wii, simply because they no longer have the James Bond license.
Here's a leaked list of launch VC titles: http://www.play-nintendo.com/news/06090902.html
(note: may not be accurate) - dallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The only gripe I have is that I wish it would have come with a 2nd controller
- seanalltogether, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10i think you mean that the other way around, look at how much buzz there has been around the Wii ever since E3. If anything, its gears of war that is going to be struggling to grab peoples attention with so many stores focusing their sales on teh Wii.
- manicdvln, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Anyone notice with the SD expansion and USB ports, and DVD disc compability, Wii will probably be the easiest nintendo console to hack.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12The only downside I see to the new news is that a complet controller will cost $60 (wii-mote and nunchuck).
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"$5 for NES games? Are they retarded? I can download an emulator and ROM in 5 SECONDS."
To say you're missing the point of the VC would be a colossal understatement. - drunkjack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I think people whining about the nunchuk being an extra $20 miss the point that it is far from essential. The basic Wiimote will be all most games with 4 player will need.
You might need an extra one for 2 player games, but I doubt any 4 player games will be complicated enough to need 4 nunchuks.
And considering how advanced the controller is..$40 sounds right. It's a major part of the system's uniquenes and it's a huge leap in gaming technology.
Still, I would've liked it cheaper, but who wouldn't. There will always be whining about pricing.
BUT, the VC games are priced right, and I want to be rockin' the Legend Of Zelda on X-Mas like I did 20 years ago. Just hope I can back them up to an SD card. I don't want to pay $10 for a game and have to buy it again later if the system crashes or fries after a few years of use. - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Non-gamers who hear the hype about the zelda and mario franchise are going to need the nunchuck to play the most popular rated games... "
Which is why the Wii comes with a nunchunk in the box. - phewitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9For those who have friends:
Nintendo Wii (250)
3 controllers (60)= 180
2 games (50)= 100
Approx $520
Xbox 360 (400)
3 controllers (50)= 150
2 games (50 since prices have dropped)= 100
Xbox Live Subscription (50)= 50
Approx $700
P$3 (600)
3 controllers (50)= 150
2 games (60)= 120
Approx: $900 - Crumbeast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@ theblackgecko
the virtual console games are NOT overpriced, you'll pay much more than that at a used game store. - tiraid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@roar84
Nintendo knows that if they had just released this controller for the gamecube, third party developers wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole. It would have been power glove all over again. Nothing that has not shipped with the system has ever made it big. They were right to do it this way. You do make a very good point though, the wii is not $250 better than the gamecube I already have. I'd much rather just buy the controllers and stick with the gamecube. Aren't we there people that have been arguing "it's about fun, not graphics" everyday for 6 months? - Reyclaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'd say A+ to including it too. Personally I hadn't planned on buying it, but it is a great bundle item for the reasons you (Siricco and wildleaf) and myself have already stated. I'm really just greedy and dint want to spend my money =/
I do want to see Nintendo succeed though so I suppose if Wii Sports helps the Wii sell, which I'm sure it will, that's a benefit to me as well. - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ah, but will I be able to beat on it and play it afterwards like one could with the GameCube?
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Aww. I was predicting $200...
Oh well. The release product is packed with features. - phr0ze, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10You guys whining about price are sad. THe Wii is a new system starting at $250. The PS2 was once that price and it didn't include a game, or a wireless controller. And $40 for a decent wireless controller is a good price too. I'm glad they are including the game, I'm tired of buying naked systems. Reminds me of the original NES which came with Mario.
- prankfurter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I really don't think someone is gonna be tied up between GoW and Wii...
Tottally diffrent experinces....
I will be buy GoW and I also just preordered a Wii 19 mins ago :-) - dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Any idea what the max resolution through component will be? Component supports 480p, 576p, 720p, and 1080i. It would be nice if at least pictures and web browsing supported higher resolutions.
- Rinkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Lucky for me, November 19th is my birthday. The price isn't bad at all really.
- nukethewhales, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I also thought it would price at 200 dollars but I didn“t think there would be a packed in game so I guess its about even.
- OneZeroZeroOne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"To say you're missing the point of the VC would be a colossal understatement."
I understand the point of the VC perfectly. The point is to make a sh*tload of profit by charging fans exhorbitant prices for 20+ year old games (most of which are less than a meg), many of whom probably already own said games in their original format and paid $50 for them.
Also, you can get EVERY Nintendo game ever made on a little joystick computer at most "as seen on TV" stores for like $50.
"It's only 50 dollars more than everything thought it was going to be priced at. Am I the only one that doesn't really care about that?"
You don't understand the concept of "value"
And froz, you didn't pay attention to my post. YES nintendo is a company, YES they want to make profits. My post was saying I thought they should be making their profits in a different way....mostly off of the games and less off of the hardware. Remember that Nintendo takes a cut of EVERY game sold for their system, not just the games THEY come out with.
With the whole Wii marketing BS I would have expected $200 for the console and 2 controllers. The emphasis should be on getting people to buy the GAMES so they can play TOGETHER. - datagod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is a dumb question, but are any of the sports games multi-player over the internet?
If I have one controller and my friend has another at his house, can we play?
I HATE split screen games to the point where I would GLADLY shove two big TV's side by side and get two consoles going multi-player style... - OneZeroZeroOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Huh?
Could this be one of the first instances of nerd-on-nerd persecution? You feel stupid waving the controller around....? Man, just think what the JOCKS will say about us!
Wii graphics are fine. The most important thing about a game (surprisingly!) is GAMEplay.
Please stop talking about processors like you understand them, or computing in general. Underpowered? Based on what...Mhz? "Oh god, 1 number iz teh bigger...it must be better!!" - FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Too many people listened to all those doofs trying to speculate the price and ended up disappointed, apparently. When someone says "under $20" or "under $250", they almost always mean by like a penny or a dollar. That's exactly what happened this time. And hell, why complain, you even get a game with it. Not to mention, it'll play GCN games out of the box (no stupid hard drive required, ala XBox 360, which can't even play all XBox games), and on top of that, you can buy virtual console games pretty cheap.
So the price is fine, and it looks like Nintendo is possibly on their way to reclaiming their once-prized best console position. - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8And how much is the PS3 with one controller going to cost you after all is said and done? I am pretty sure Sony will not ship more then the basic unit and one controller and probably not even one game with the PS3 for $600 US.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6thrustbucket, if you don't want to read comments by Nintendo fans why are you reading a story about the Wii? I mean seriously dude, think about the irony of it all. Maybe you need to stop clicking on links with Nintendo in the title.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Something like 30-40 dollars cheaper actually.
- onesojourner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I am a little disapointed with the price but its all good. it comes with a game. the controller is also a little high if you are including the nunchuck. any one have any idea how many games will need the nunchuck? 40 for the base controller is duable.
- Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"I was (and still am) REALLY in love with the Wii,
but this is way more expensive than I was anticipating.
I think Nintendo is making a mistake here with their pricing."
It's only 50 dollars more than everything thought it was going to be priced at. Am I the only one that doesn't really care about that? You just can't please everyone. -
