- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I think they meant 'Dexter' from Showtime - the show about the cop who's also a serial killer who likes to cut his victims into pieces.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21"We go Dexter on the Wii's main controller."
Minus 10 points for trying to invent incredibly retarded slang - evilrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8WTF was up with drilling out the screws? The bit for unscrewing the "tri-wing" screws is so common, I've got 4 of them...
Thanks for showing us the insides, but major point loss for not taking 5 seconds to look for the right tools. - metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That was an awesome show, and it was implied..
Why are people saying "major point loss" its an article, not a scorecard.. - bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Pretty lame.
They drilled out the screws and more or less said 'LOL LOOK AT THE PCB'
I'm sure hackaday or another similar site will have a cooler break down soon! - Soapdish, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Ever heard of Dexter's lab?
- endyminion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Uuuuuh, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the controller using *Bluetooth*, not *WiFi*?
Thanks IGN, you destroyed a $30 piece of hardware and not only didn't really have anything to say once you did, but even managed to offer up incorrect information in addition. - mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"It's an open secret that the Wii-remote was originally designed as a GameCube peripheral."
No it isn't. It's just rumored. All I've ever seen was a Nintendo announcement that they were going to add a peripheral that would add five years to the console. Nothing happened. Then, some time later, the Wii is revealed. Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.
I'm not sure whether to bury this for lame or inaccuracy. - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Funnily enough, in the video section of digg, they also do a dissection of the Wiimote. With a blender.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it is actually a $40 piece of hardware.
- jwigum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah... Again with these "gaming" sites not having basic tools. You'd think someone that's trying to keep their finger on the pulse of the gaming community would at least have the tools needed to open a freaking Nintendo product.
- SnowBladerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Agreed, you would think a big company like IGN would at least have the right tools.
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good stuff. I was interested to see what was in that remote.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It is official... IGN sucks at Dissection , I've could have done that!, I would be more interested in knowing how it works, not just breaking a wiimote
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, there's really not a lot to see there. Some up close shots of the various components is primarily what's missing.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The drilling was a waste, they lost a controller and showed the inside of a controller that someone has already shown us. Why dont they just disassemble an ipod already cuz i'm pretty sure that hasn't been done 100x before.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'the real heart and *sole*'
. . .come on - NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Agreed
needs more tools/edit options - pimpybra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2 I assumed it was Dexter from the Dexter books (Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, etc). These are the books the Dexter show on Showtime is based from.
Kinda funny/weird that I just started listening to the first book (Darkly Dreaming Dexter) on audio book, and now I see this reference? Slick. - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We couldn't open the Wiimote so we smashed it with a hammer. Super-gluing it back together shows us that the accelerometers were supplied by "Analo vices".
- chiptinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1exactly what i was thinking.. what a waste of a wiimote.
you'd think if you wrote for ign, you'd know the specs on the machine. - chops, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Points to the submitter for calling it by its actually name. (Hint: It's not a Wiimote)
- Heretushi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wouldn't it be "soul" ?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2edit: digg's comment system sucks
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Dexter is awesome. Whats wrong with you...
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1You mean "Laboratory".
- G-Force, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1"Ever heard of Dexter's lab?"
Yeah it's a very horrible ill faded cartoon and not what was implied here thats for sure.
Very cool article
