- fnaqzna, on 10/12/2007, -8/+69Eye candy does not a good game make?
- nerdgoturd, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29"This game is gonna rock. Hard." what else is there to say?
- sensor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Are they going to FINALLY improve the gameplay instead of just the graphics. I'm sick and tired of games which are just pretty and nothing else. This genre needs a good AI system that can put up a good fight.
- bsharitt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Well, I guess assuming that they keep the same basic gameplay as Generals and combine them with the new purty graphics, one could assume the game may be quite good. Then again, they might just ***** the whole thing up, but at least it will look nice.
- ZarkonGT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Except for the fact that we had two of those three 'new' screenshots between May 29, 2006 and June 7, 2006.

http://www.gamingtrend.com/screenshots/index.php?GameID=4719&Shot=34617 - alchamy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I am really looking forward to c&c3, I have enjoyed the entire series so far.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10fnaqzna - I think C&C games keep getting better and are very playable. Why do you think it might not be a good game just because it looks good?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8RTS games have not evolved in the last decade.
In the late 90s, I imagined that by now we'd have games where we could have total control over a realistic battlefield, with thousands of units that behave realistically (kind of like a more high-end, modern-warfare version of the "Total War" series of games). For example, fighter jets taking off from actual landing strips rather than showing up out of nowhere, units that are drawn to scale with their environment, AI-assisted movement behavior that allows your army to realistically react to situations rather than waiting for every minuscule command you give them.
I guess maybe we have to wait another 10 years for the RTS games of my dreams to become reality, while all the other genres already have extremely similar gameplay mechanics. - RazorElite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7After generals, I strongly believe this will be a kick ass game.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Any C&C:Renegade fanboys here? I loved that game. Renwarz and Renbattle ftw
- acc355, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Looks nice, but I'm more excited about Supreme Commander. The C&C series never had anything even remotely as good as Total Annihilation IMHO.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I never really liked command and conquer. Although the red alert series, I thought that was great. Especially Red Alert 2, that has to be one of my favorite RTS. Tiberiun sun was meh, and the orginal command and conquer kind of sucked.
My favorite rts is still total annihilation. That game is the best rts ever. They have remade it into a 3d version, and I regulary play that (located http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ if you are interested. Completely free btw). - Wolfbeta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This game, amongst workflow reasons is one of the biggest reasons for me to build a new pc.
I'm still sitting on a P4 Williamette back from '01. Bout the only thing I can play is Tiberian Sun 1. - pickypg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@fatdog789
I'd have to disagree--TS was one of the worst Command and Conquer's thanks completely to the inclusion of the drone.
Otherwise, I would definitely agree with you.
They had better beat Supreme Commander out the door, or they will likely be facing another Starcraft like atmosphere. Even so, I will probably be getting both games. - fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7TS did rock hard. But it came out at the same time as Starcraft, which stole most of it's thunder. If TS had come out before SC, it would have gone down as one of the great RTS's...
- Yonson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past."
I like the 1984 quote. - Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ilyag: While the to scale part doesn't quite exist, a decent unit level AI exists for Total Annihilation, which came out just a little before StarCraft and around the same time as TS. It's still my favorite RTS game today and there's quite a few mods out there for it.
For example, my figthers would actually dog fight the enemy fighters. They will dodge missiles fired at them and all units can fire and move at the same time, which is rare even today. On top of that, with a mod, TA can support 500 units on each side for some truly gigantic battles. The way TA played out was quite different from other games. It's not so much the individual units but the overall strategy that matter because resources are unlimited. The rate at which you can extract resources is the bottleneck. So you have to manage your economy well at a macro level. Individual units can take care of themselves. I usually just send a group of them towards a location and let them do their own thing. There's very little micro management once the game gets going.
This is why I'm so excited about Supreme Commander, the sequel to TA. It has the unit level AI but at the same time can support battles of gigantic scales. I hope it will support more than 500 units per player. - caboosemoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I am extremely bored with these games failing to utilize proper scale. Look at the tanks and troops, as per usual they're all far too big relative to the buildings, the buildings need to be much much larger. I'm with acc355, Supreme Commander looks much more interesting. These screenshots suggest nothing new to me other than prettier graphics, and that's the bit you expect to see with each new generation of games. The original C&C and Red Alert were very good for their time but Total Annihilation and the Homeworld brand beat the ***** out of any subsequent releases under the C&C brand.
- Tanpreet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I wonder if Jeremy from Pure Pwnage will actually get to test this game before it comes out.
- dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh man, the series that got me into computers. I hope they fix the AI for the harvesters though, it was brutal in Tiberian Sun.
- zone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Eye candy does not a good game make?"
yeah.. see what they did with Age of Empires 3 :( horrible, horrible gameplay. - caliform, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I liked Tiberian Sun a lot! I thought it was a great, atmospheric RTS.
- kaffein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No thanks, bring on Supreme Commander for my uber micro RTS fix.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHothxZQoWo&search=supreme%20commander - Sarge117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. While all of the C&C games were great and respectable games, GDI vs NOD is where it's at, IMHO.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am only playing if there are Tanyas
- sei0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BEST. SERIES. OF. THIS. GENRE. EVER. No matter what anyone says, I am a HUGE fan of command & conquer. I am GAGGING for this game to come out.
Finally back to NOD vs GDI, none of that chinese usa coalition stuff. I BEG that they will implement the original command & conquer voices/sounds. That ridiculously addictive sound and gameplay still loops over in my mind. "Now building... Construction complete"
Ahhh...Beauty! I hope the minimum requirement for this game lowers by the final release. My computer which is relatively good won't handle the above posted requirements. Anyway the graphics look elite, and we will see what becomes of it. Please do not remake another c&c: Generals, though however popular it may be..It just WASN'T command & conquer. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I just read that book, up until then I thought C&C made up that quote....
- GT35R, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am glad that C&C3 will remain true what what the C&C series is all about. I loved the Tiberian Sun universe and I love the damn NOD symbol. This is going to be awsome. Looking forward.
- lukeev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah I'm also more inclined towards 'Supreme Commander' for my next RTS fix... that game looks like it will actually do something *gasp* original with the RTS genre. I definately won't underestimate C&C3's potential though.
- pickypg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Command and Conquer 2 was C&C Tiberian Sun. http://planetcnc.gamespy.com/tiberiansun/
C&C, C&C Red Alert, and C&C Generals are all different story lines. - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I still play Renegade.. I love the UNRULES- New Maps server. Brings so much new life to the game.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the scale in the c&c games was set so that they were playable, much like the physics in half-life is not actually realistic. it is just set so that it is playable and fun.
- artgon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It looks fantastic but I'm still waiting on Starcraft 2...
- xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2THose are not the requirments, those numbers from oyourmom are justpulled out of his/her ass, probably as a "ohh...ahhh.." reaction to the graphical quality of the screenshots.
IM guessing 2,5ghz 512ram minimum, probably 1GB to be safe.
Any modern DX9 card will do, great (read -7600 and up, X1600XT and up). Im sure other things will work too, EA cant make such high requirments that noone will run the game, It will scale down well, but Im sure those SS are taken on top of the line hardware with AA/AF maxed, like most ingame SS PR releases do.
Also, the old sounds would be freaking awesome, and I definiarely agree with your points on generals and the series...> [GDI/Nod >> Allies/Soviet] - victorycig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed. It seems these games each have their own flavor of AI, and it's generally easy to adapt to and defeat, so the game gets boring. C&C Generals offered AI that would adapt to your tactics, but it wouldn't remember your tactics from one skirmish to the next. I'd love to see AI that learns what kind of player you are, and can take advantage of your weaknesses.
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3C&C 1 was good, but I also liked Tiberian Sun. Good campaign. Plus there was a good map editor out. I think you can still get it. It's called Final Sun.
- odst29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's feels good to see westwood back in the saddle and ready to deliver again.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i hope ea doesnt screw it up
- Sharkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think ParaWorld looks good too, another RTS.
Dinosaurs with guns on them, ninjas, jetpacks, more dinosaurs.
http://pc.ign.com/objects/682/682114.html - fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2C&C was the reason that TA was able to get made. Thinkof it as a precursor, not a true competitor.
- xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm probably the biggest C&C fan you will find. Yes Generals sucked. Yes RA2 had the worst graphics....cartoony, instead of TS style voxels, but RA2 game-play was great.
Zero-Hour , which was the late expansion to Generals, is actually what Generals was supposed to be.
Hell, I played Renegade for about 2-3 years straight on a old AMD1200+radeon8500, then an AMD2500+radeon9800. That game was truly awesome. So many memories, so many point-whores for the rank system, (hey we all did it at some point!) FoD, EoE, UNRULES, RENWARS, BlackCell, all servers I remember playing on and having fun.
Perhaps the most critical flaw in Renegade is that the server doesn't allow download of maps ( a-la CS/CS:S) which means a custom map pretty much kicked everyone that wasn't a community member from the server,
Anyways back to C&C3. I cant wait, however Supreme Commander is coming out, and I have no doubt at all in my mind that game will rock HARD ( I also love TA, and also play TA:Spring[the remake a couple people mentioned here]).
Plus, I don't trust EA to make a good, bug free game anymore. Come on guys, its EA, its gonna need at least 4 patches to make it stable and feature complete, just like every other EA game. (*Cough* BFME *cough* BF2, cough anything else EA )
I'm excited, but like many other re-iterated, if C&C3 comes out the same time as Supreme Commander, then its going to be another Starcraft/Tiberian Sun scenario, and Sup-Com will absolutely steal all the spotlight, and the players/$. Sure a lot of us will get both, but many gamers will only get one, @~50-60$ a pop, which I'm pretty sure both games will retail for, given the franchise and the history behind both.
Don't mess this up EA. Don't ruin and alienate perhaps the oldest and most loyal fan-base you have. - nazadus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know if anyone played, but I _really_ liked "Dark Reign". The expansion was pretty good too.
I especially liked the fact that you could customize the responses of unis.
For example, you could have it set that when they get to medium health they could go to a repair facility. You could set it such that they would "harrass" a unit if it saw it.
It also had "scout" settings, search and destory, etc.
Alas, it's an old game and I never played the second one. Their marketing sucked and they hard more before C&C (I can't verify this, but I remember thinking it blew away C&C). - caliform, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Buybar? I thought it was "Buildbar".
- thomasthecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I'm looking forward to the several new RTS games on the horizon that have fully destructible buildings and environment, like the forthcoming Company of Heroes and some other games that are further down the pipe. I've done some playing with the CoH beta and the level of interactivity really brings the experience to a whole new level, IMHO.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4eh, red alert 1 and 2 were great fun, but generals was literally the absolute worst game i ever paid for. i felt so violated realize that i actually paid money for it..
if this game is half as bad as generals was, it may as well get canned today before anyone else wastes any time or money on it. - Mesattack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My son and I play C&C several times a week. I personally can't wait!!!
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah ra2 was fun the the expansion with yuris team was cool too remember the moon and the lasers fun
- bmcnally, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I always loved when they said "Building . . . construction complete" for infantry. Back in 3rd grade, that made my day.
- naisanza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that looks like a scorpian tank
- futureconan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I'm excited for this game. I've been a fan since the beginning. I remember when Red Alert was still considered canon with GDI and Nod. I think Generals was a good game, but I didn't like how it didn't have any relation to the Red Alert/Tiberium universes and I didn't like the build system.
I wish that the actual westwood folks were making this game, instead of EA. EA seems to have some bug problems. Granted, they have made some good games.
I do have to agree that Red Alert 2 was too cartoony with the graphics. I also thought it was too light hearted. However, the multiplayer component generally made up for that. -
