- Narwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm stuck with a 576i PAL CRT, and buying a new TV isn't exactly on my budget. It's cheaper just to buy a VGA cable and connect your 360 to your LCD monitor.
- renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8not everyone has enough money to go out and buy a brand new hdtv just to be able to play a game
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't even play Dead Rising on any SDTVs. I have no idea what is going on because I can't read the text.
After playing on an HDTV for so long, you start to take it for granted =/ - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If they could afford a decent HDTV, they'd get one.
You're comparing apples and oranges. If you get a high-end audio system, you're doing it for the sound. If you get a next-generation console, you're doing it for the games or the graphics. If the latter, you'll still see an improvement compared to previous generation consoles, but you'll obviously want an HDTV if you're doing it for the graphics. If the former, the TV doesn't really matter, you just want to play the latest games. - pixelfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this is awesome, I'm waiting to buy my 360 'cause I heard about the possible price drops, but I won't be able to buy an HDTV for a year at the very least... this will be helpful.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just bought an Xbox 360, and I don't have an HDTV in my house. Right from the bat I knew that I'm not gonna be seeing everything the system has to offer. So what did I do? While I was in the store, I went around the corner to the accessories isle and picked up the Xbox 360 HD VGA adapter for $40.
I went home, unpacked the Xbox 360, stood it next to my computer, connected the VGA adapter to my middle-of-the-road Viewsonic 19" CRT computer monitor (a female-to-female adapter for connecting the video cables was included), connected the audio outputs from the VGA adapter into my regular PC speakers (using a very cheap 1/8" female-to-female stereo connector, which unfortunately was not included, but your local Radio Shack will definitely be stocked with them), turned on the system and, behold, the start-up logo appeared at 640x480 resolution right on my PC monitor, and the sound was playing wonderfully through my subwoofer (better sound than most TVs!!).
Using the Xbox's settings menu, I navigated to the Display panel, and set the resolution to the highest WIDESCREEN resolution it recognized for my monitor. Then I made simple adjustments to my monitor's width/height picture settings to achieve a letterboxed look, and BEHOLD! I am now gaming on an Xbox 360 with a wonderful WIDESCREEN HD picture quality!! And all it took was $40 for the VGA adapter!
And guess what, if I can do it, anyone can do it.
I can't imagine why ANYONE would want to play the Xbox 360 on an SDTV when all of you have computer monitors already. If you have a computer monitor, you can play all your games in beautiful high-definitions, or even widescreen (regardless of if your monitor is actually widescreen or not). The picture quality is fantastic.
The only drawback? No couch. But who the hell cares? Just lean back in your computer chair and game on. Or go buy some beanbag chairs or something. The quality of the picture on even a low-end monitor definitely makes it worth it. - FrozenAssassin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good blog, my main gaming is done on a 36" SDTV, but i do also have a 60" HDTV and the difference is clear, especially on dead rising with the damn small text.
- Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dead Rising was actually the reason I had to buy an HDTV. I remember sitting 3 feet from my TV and still having trouble reading the text. I had a 27 inch SDTV, while nothing great by todays standards, had always done the job necessary until that day...
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I tripped over a blog and stubbed my wii.
- tapo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think something that goes unnoticed is the Xbox 360 VGA Cable, it's the cheapest way for a poor college student (such as myself) to have a great looking picture. Some developers - like Epic - manage to forget that 4:3 monitors are still common and you sometimes end up with black bars in games.
But still, it's $40 for HD gaming. If I want to watch a movie, I hook it up to my 32 inch TV. If I want to play Dead Rising or go for an extended gaming session without squinting, 17 inch monitor all the way. - Narwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I never thought a comment on Digg could be filled with so many grammatical errors. Besides, you can buy a PC monitor that does 1080p with a 6ms refresh time for less :)
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1soogy, I get your point, but many of the latest titles are still being made for the "old gen" consoles like the xbox and ps2. I know for people on a budget that they might have to put a HD system together piece by piece, and in that case, the first piece to start with should be the HDTV IMHO (of course getting a nex gen system could be used as a catalyst to accelerate the acquisition of a HDTV).
- chapium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not much to the blog, but I must say, even with a 13" TV connected to RF, Burnout is still a hell of a lot of fun.
- pnyphnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, 12 ms response...that's where I want to be at. That's the party where I want to be.
- TheSaladMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you can read a blog that means you're likely to have a PC with a monitor, so buy a VGA cable and there go all of your problems.
- TiggyThaiMein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Any blogs rating new abacusses?
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*oneshotkill probably does not know what anything like refresh rate means*
And anyways...I play my 360 on a 108" screen(projector) on 720P. We do have a 50" Samsung 1080P DLP monitor upstairs, but the sheer size of the projector screen beats the hell out of 1080P resolution. :D - EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh yay, another blog...
Good idea or not, blogs are not good for everything(or much really). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2oh wow, a new blog guys, totally newsworthy!!!
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Gee, if I had created a 360 blog for SDTV users, the first entry would be: "Get Yourself a HDTV"
Yeah, I know, many people can't afford HDTVs or are waiting for other technologies to to find their way to market (sed, laser, etc.), but if I were getting a "nex-gen" system known for its visuals when presented in HD, the first thing to get would be the HDTV. While I haven't played the 360 on SDTV, I'm sure that some of the games play and look very good, but not giving the 360 a HDTV to work with is like putting together a high end audio system and then connecting it to bose speakers (edit: no offense to SDTVs in comparing them to bose intended-- heck, some of their speakers are even better than bose). - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1My doctor told me that I'd have to have invasive surgery for my SDTV. It was only when he gave me money after he'd done it that I realised something was wrong.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0This blog for SDTV folks has been around longer with more reviews etc
http://www.searchjerk.com/cgi-bin/smartsearch/smartsearch.cgi?keywords=sdtv+blog+for+xbox360&search=Search - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0pshh i laugh at standard def
