MORTAL KOMBAT! - SimianSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Mortal Kombat will be around forever, like Sonic the Hedgehog
- masteryoda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Wasnt MK Armageddon the last in the series ?
- NSPodcast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Anyone else hoping they include a 3D remake of MK II with this one instead of some lame adventure mode?
I'd even settle for a emulated arcade port you could play online. - Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Do people keep buying Mortal Kombat games? As long as people keep buying them there will always be a new one on the way....which is fine by me since they are pretty good games.
- robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Which MK game were they playing on 40 Year Old Virgin?
"You know how I know you're gay?"
"How?"
"You like Coldplay."
"Dude I'm going to pull out your ***** spine..." - jmaynardg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Mortal Kombat II for SNES on PSP rocks. I spent a few hours on Saturday playing and reliving my old glorious SNES days. But it could use a good 3D update. I look forward to this on my 360! Woohoo!
- Codename, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Mortal Kombat series has never died, but Midway was in a economic crisis, and which Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance saved them from bankruptcy, and now they are back on thier feet, and now making Mortal Kombat games again, and I can't wait for this one.
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Toasty!
- SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, he had a sword, why not? I mean, this series has done everything. It hasn't been good since MK II.
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In addition to what a1great said, MK:Armageddon was to be the last one "like we know it." They are looking to reinvent the game for the next generation. Most of the old characters are gone and never to return. I think this is a great idea, and a refresh is very much needed. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves.
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is actually older news, Midway is doing all next-gen development on the Unreal Engine and I had gotten confirmation the next MK game was using that engine back at E3 last year.
It should be amazing to see what the team has come up with as far as graphics in the game. They have been working on it for some time now already. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5booo.. 3d mortal kombat games are atrocious
mortal kombat used to be an icon, a defining fighting game for a generation of gamers. it was one of the last arcade games that people actually put quarters on the game cabinet to mark their spot in line to play. - vermin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Armageddon was pretty fun. The MK series has been quite consitent with their titles. Looking forward to the next one.
- a1great, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Armageddon was to be the last in the storyline that they were using. Apparantly all subsequent MK games will have a new storyline AND new characters.
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mortal Kombat Deception was the game used in 40 Year Old Virgin.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It sounds like you haven't heard about Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii. It's supposed to go back to the roots of the franchise (e.g. lots of speed, relative linearity, no sidekicks) and has a ton of good buzz from hands-on previews.
- pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3...with a chainsaw?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gosh... I wish Street Fighter would have kept the same pace.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:D I can't wait for UE4
- Bega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2dude, shaolin monks had some kickass co-op, and I didn't really mind armageddon at all. The rest of what you say I can definitely agree with.
- neuralcooker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As a game developer my first reaction to this is WTF? UE3 has so many features that is it probably major overkill for an MK game unless they are going to do something wildly different this iteration.
That whole arcade idea is pretty interesting though. I used to play a ton of MK in the arcade. Those were good times, putting the stomp don't on some people and then getting stomped by others. - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't it's gonna be a shooter dude... I think they're just using the graphical horsepower and physics magics of the U3 to make the game look legitimately gory and awesome, something that I don't think has been properly achieved since the original 2D MK games. Well, here's hoping!
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1pretty soon EVERYONE will be using Unreal Engine 3. And by everyone i mean, PC, 360, and PS3. Its currently the standard for graphical goodness.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good business sense would tell you to use the profit from popular, longstanding franchises (like Mortal Kombat) to finance the occasional risky, wildly innovative venture. I wouldn't fault Midway for continuing to produce this series, as long as they're trying other things.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you say:
Violent and gory :D - mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tobias already has moved on... quite some time ago left to do other projects with his own company, Studio Gigante. They have sadly had to close doors, and he is now doing freelancing. I'd actually love to see him come back and work with Midway on MK8, which is supposed to be the rebirth of the series.
- lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is foolish. the engine looks great and all, but its not the end all be all of game engines. its a closed environment shooter engine. you could not use it for an rts or a large outdoor fps. or, for that matter, a fighting game. one could just as easilymake a shooter out of an old mortal kombat engine. it could be done, but not easily or turn out very well. maybe im wrong, but id imagine this is not the best choice they could have made.
- Jemm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More Dull Kombat (รก la Space Quest IV) :)
- lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*cough* DICE *cough*
- Codename, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They were playing the Gamecube version with a N64 controller.
- DarkShroud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I rented the first MK game for the PS2 and wasn't happy. I haven't bother with the rest yet as I don't have much time for gaming. Because I was playing MK on my Genesis back on the day. As long as it's actually good I'll buy it.
And yes these younger gamers do need a good beating. They never had to ride a bike to an arcade or collect cans to get quarters when their allowance ran out. - N080dy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Alright, did anyone else get really excited for a second when they saw Sub-zero in armor with an assault rifle? Anyone?
- joenewbreed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"You have to admit, the first MK was awesome, and very cutting edge using real actors as models. 2nd one was not too bad, and 3rd was getting silly with robots?!?!"
You have to admit... um... no i don't. the first one was "cutting edge", yes... but they got better and better after that.
you want to talk about silly, lets talk about sub zero's story mode game and the deadly alliance debacle. - DryvBy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's what I thought... I guess it worked so well, they had to make another one
- DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I think I'm actually thinking of Shaolin Monks. The isometric 3d system was terrible.
What is the style of DA? - krakkinem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2ENOUGH with the Mortal Kombat games already! Jesus Christ, it has become the "Friday the 13th" series of the video game world. Anything "new" they can come up with is only superficial gloss because to fundamentally change the simplistic gameplay of Mortal Kombat is to destroy it.
Ed Boon and John Tobias, for god's sake, move on. Everyone else has. (Well, obviously not everyone, otherwise they wouldn't still be making and selling these games. I should say "everyone with taste and half a brain" has moved on.) - MillenniumX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Great. That's just what the industry needs: more glorified Quake clones. Seriously; can't any American companies make an original game anymore?
- DeepFreezed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ohh cool...
we get a Gears of Mortal War :D
one thing for sure thought. it will look better on 360. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bump for chainsaw justice!
- DiggerT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Mortal Kombat is OK but it gets its ass kicked by its rival Street Fighter, I would rather have a new Street Fighter than another MK game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4yup, and we all know how great Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the New PS3/Xbox Sonic The Hedgehog are
- noamchomskeet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Gears of war is the best game ever. I just played it on hardcore and I can say it's almost as hard as Ninja Gaiden for Xbox. Amazing graphics, especially in that rain forest scene, and storyline is solid. I forsee an entire line of games focusing on Marcus Fenix's past, present, and future.
You have to admit, the first MK was awesome, and very cutting edge using real actors as models. 2nd one was not too bad, and 3rd was getting silly with robots?!?!
Anyways, if this new one doesn't live up GOW use of the engine, then they have wasted their time. - DyDx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2That's odd, because MK: DA was the worst MK game I've ever played. Terrible deviation from the tried and true style.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3So if you like the game, why don't you want more on the way?
- cupofchino, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Fatality!
- Codename, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3NO, Scorpion is not going to have a gun you bafoon!
- SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1So, is Scorpion gonna have a gun?
- sharville, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Mortal kombat owns you fools
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4and like the New Coke.
