- Defiant001, on 10/07/2008, -1/+40Good article with excellent points, I'll be forwarding this to a few people I know who like to be negative about gaming.
- Mykal73, on 10/07/2008, -6/+44It's a good article, but it's older than dirt. (Or McCain, take your pick)
- voomfoo, on 10/08/2008, -2/+30I used this for a research paper 3 years ago!
- davengineer, on 10/10/2008, -1/+22i wasn't here 3 years ago...
- neocreo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+13Wish someone had done a research like this about the "video nasties" hysteria of the early 1980's. Back then appearantly, you could be turned into a murderer hellbent on destruction by just watching "Evil Dead". And yet even before that, lets not forget the hysteria surrounding comic books in the 1950's and 1960's. Even before then, there were "dangerous" books like Huckleberry Finn, Pippi Longstocking that caused moral outrage.
It seems that adults are constantly scared of what the next generation gets up to, and all the while they have forgotten what obstacles their own generation faced. - ernasty10050, on 10/08/2008, -0/+12That actually is only true for CRT monitors, if I remember correctly.
But dle5, what is wrong with a black background? Is it hard to read? - ColuberSum, on 10/08/2008, -2/+13The problem is that all the English Major teachers in schools that teach these myths will see that this is from an MIT professor and dismiss it as some nerd making up facts. Little do they know that people in other disciplines actually conduct research and don't just talk about their feelings.
- internetcoward, on 10/08/2008, -0/+11Halo 3 does not, in fact, rule. Debunked!
- Murdats, on 10/08/2008, -0/+11unless you use an LCD.
- Skod, on 10/08/2008, -3/+13FAIL
Darker Screen = Win - RSS14, on 10/08/2008, -1/+10McCain IS dirt.
- kday, on 10/08/2008, -0/+9Actually, I was the first to post it. 3 years and 79 days ago.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Eight_Myths_About_Vide ... - albi123, on 10/08/2008, -4/+13It saves energy.
- noahgelman, on 10/08/2008, -0/+8Where the ***** do you think you are?
- neocreo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+8It was not dugg for brilliant design, but rather good and researched content, which made excellent points.
- pnmoore, on 10/08/2008, -0/+7If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?
- baldgye, on 10/08/2008, -0/+7English teacher never mentioned video games
- quaunaut, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6Sadly, I doubt those same people could tell you the difference between a link and causality.
- FrankieG33, on 10/08/2008, -3/+9and the neon blue lettering. my eyes are almost bleeding.
- internetcoward, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6?????????????????
- WoollyMittens, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5While I appreciate the coincidence, I fail to see the irony.
- ColuberSum, on 10/08/2008, -1/+6Maybe not. But think about the people that are opposed to video games. Any science or math teachers? The people who base their opinions on facts are less likely to condemn video games than people that base their opinions on their feelings.
- hectord27, on 10/08/2008, -1/+6Guns don't kill people...video games do.....oh and bullets...and car accidents....and black backgrounds...
- Gamoc, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5Yet you're in the video game section. If you don't like video games you why the hell are you here? To dump on people who do? That, sir(/madam) is pathetic. Now get the ***** off of my internet.
- jemka, on 10/08/2008, -0/+59. Playing video games all day and occasionally tightening up their graphics accurately depicts a video game programmer's job.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ-QSJmEgHU - praisethelard, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5I'll probably use this for a research paper this year!
- dle5, on 10/08/2008, -12/+17Tempted to bury for the black background.
- Gamoc, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4What's wrong with a black background? I prefer darker backgrounds.
- hectord27, on 10/08/2008, -1/+5why so serious?
- JacksonYaya, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4People who think that video games promote violence should be assaulted with rail guns.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4Those who are against video games today will look as ridiculous to future generations as those who where against the demoralizing effect of movies in 1920s. Not to speak about the "demoralizing effect" of books in 17th and 18th century. In other words it's always the same, people demonize and will continue to demonize any new medium (those that will come in the future included), this has more to do with human psychology than the medium itself.
Videogames continue exactly this paradigm, I'm only wondering sometimes, are people who find videogames as the greater Satan aware of them being tools of a historic trend and victims of our imperfect psychology or not? - Azuroth, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4dsmx, are you saying you'd like to drill McCain? ;)
- dsmx, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4McCain is lower than dirt by now I'm guessing he's around the oil stage by now.
- Gamoc, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4Guess that makes you a homophobe.
- dsmx, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4No because oil drilling doesn't solve the energy crysis.
- eyepatch100, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4He ain't your friend, buddy.
- iamsmooth, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3It's sad when you need MIT to tell Americans not to believe in retarded media BS (namely Fox News, remember Mass Effect?); let's attack the gaming community when we have a slow news day, great idea.
- noahgelman, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3You don't need an MIT Professor to figure those things out, just some common sense
- Calinthalus, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Damn you Alanis Morissette....no, it isn't ironic!!
- wacked, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Awe... somebody gets their ass kicked when they try to play games. lol.
- TheTjalian, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3But considering you've been playing it for "years", wouldn't you also agree you generally get more desensitised as you grow up anyway? The world around us in general desensitises us.
- Gamoc, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Yeah, that's not irony, it's a coincidence.
- Putrefaction, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3HENRYYYYY JEENNKKINNSSS!
- noPCtoday, on 10/08/2008, -1/+4regardless, i hate those 12 year old whiny little bitches.
- opnickc, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2"it doesn't have any sources."
