- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Kojima is a Director at heart. He's not going to let his baby fall apart after he's built it up over the years. I imagine he's going to have a big role in the making of the film... but then again they've been saying it's going to be made for a while now.
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Indeed, all the MGS games were cinematic masterpieces.
- cgranade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19What was wrong with MGS2? It simply was much more introspective and philosophical, but I really appriciated the changed persepctive. So far, we've had the imminently modern and political MGS1, the very post-modern and philosophical MGS2 and the historical and reflective MGS3. Kojima shows by this that he can play up many different angles to a story. I think this should work well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Yeah, Kojima's not going to mess this up.
Haha, Uwe Boll was talking about how he wanted to direct the MGS movie, and Kojima told reporters that "...it is impossible..." that Boll would ever do the movie. - regyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10! (Alert Mode)
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Is it just me, or am I the only one who would want the movie to be about Big Boss rather than Solid Snake?
It will be interesting eitherway how they can adapt it to the screen. Should they film it with real actors and dub over the voices with the actual voice actors from the game? I think everyone can agree that David Hayter's voice really brings Snake to life.
side-note: For the past few months I have been really really interested in making a short film about the Cobra Unit's involvement in World War II. - cockmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9as long as he has a killer mullet, I'M IN.
- sp1keNARF, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11samuel jackson as snake!!! we got m'f'in snake!!!!
- liveinabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Logical. You make a MGS cutscene any longer, you might as well call it a movie.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You're crazy. Escape from New York is a classic.
Not to mention it inspired the MGS games. - Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://www.cinemacomrapadura.com.br/noticias/img/1663-2006-03-17-10:33:43_1.jpg Only pic I could find of Hayter with some scruff..Undecided on him playing Snake. A different actor's voice would be rather jarring, and Hayter knows how to portray the character better than anyone. Looks like he could do it, with some cosmetics. I'd be much less interested without Hayter's voice.
Then again, it's not like Michael Ironside would be passable as Sam Fisher in a movie.. - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Would be cool if Kurt Russell could be in it. Though he might be too old to play Snake.
- antipro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Well as long as it's directed by Kojima and not Uwe Bol I will probably see it
Unless it takes place in the time of MGS4 and Snake has that retarded mustache. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11As long as he learns from his mistakes in MGS2 (Dude, what the hell was that game ABOUT?), and Keeps It Simple, I think we're looking at an awesome cinematic action espionage... movie.
- DLitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm with you, I love MGS. But, no mullet, no sale
- Bigopinion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Kojima is a fascinating director, and this could very well be one of the first few video game movies that does extremely well, that is, if Hideo directs, and David Hayter is Solid Snake." (from Kotaku)
I don't think many MGS fans have done their homework on the voice behind the Snake; we're talking about the guy who's written both X-Men movie screenplays and was Captain America's voice in the 90s Spiderman cartoon. It's like imagining what your favorite radio personality looks like, then seeing them in person.
Dugg for OMG MGS MOVIE, and a complimentary [!] a la regyt. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If it does take place in MGS4... how about tom selleck?
- KYDS3K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Richard Dean Anderson for Snake!
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you learned how to read then you might understand it.
- Frinkahedron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like how you skipped over the part that says "See results for: metal gear solid" in the middle of the first page. -_-
- jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5chuck norris
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the actor from Batman Begins and Equlibrium, Christian Bale, could be a could Snake. He did an awesome job as Batman, and in Equlibrium he kicks some major ass.
If you havent seen Equlibrium, I recommend it, its kinda like The Matrix but not so geeky.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/ - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thank Vishnu for that!
- crummer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think that the only guy that could play snake halfway decently would be Josh Holloway from lost
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a313/-x-buttercup-x-/myspace/josh.jpg
http://folk.ntnu.no/jonkjeti/Lost/P-Sawyer.jpg
Anyway, I hope Kojima takes the time to make sure this is done right. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Samuel Jackson as Solid Snake:
"This isn't a training exercise. Our lives are riding on this. There are no heroes or heroines. If you lose, you're worm food. And there ain't a GOTdamn thing you can do about it!!!" - MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can see where you're coming from, what with the ten minute long codec monologues in MGS 3. No annoying game save medic lady, I don't care about Godzilla! Just lemme save!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Equlibrium > The Matrix
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the guy who played Jesus in the Passion would fit.
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sean Connery would make a bad ass Big Boss.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Kurt Rusell? Are you kidding me? That Snake Pliskin stuff didnt really fly.
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Simple? HA! I laugh in your face, MGS in its innate nature is all about complexity and a half dozen subplots going on at the same time. They could easily make a trilogy out of the MGS franchise.
Note* in case somone brings it up, Kojima squashed the rumor from a few months ago that Uwe Boll might get his hands on the license. - posure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3even in blade, he wasnt playing a serious character..solid snake doesnt really f*ck around
- jrh517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kurt Russell would be much better if featured in a cameo role, instead of a leading role. Kojima is very good at pulling off comedy as well, this could turn out to be a great scene, that is if it actually happens. It is great to hear about news of a movie. Personally, I hope it's CG because it would be awesome and because Hayter could do the voice for sure. I don't know how good of a physical actor he is. As long as Kojima directs--
- dogside, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know how you can say that. Metal Gear Solid is a classic title. It is one of the most successfull games of the PlayStation, and of Konami. MGS is a masterpeice. The story lines where inovative, the gameplay unique, and the vast amount of colorful characters that surrounds the persona of Solid Snake. In no way is the gameplay laughable, you have yet to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The gameplay of MGS3 is climactic in the MGS series, and created more hype for MGS4 for the PS3. This game is widly popular in both Japan and the US, if you are so arrogent that you have to solely rely on gameplay, and cannot see past the polygons and into the artistic flow within it, then I'm sorry that you are blind and oblivious to the whole point of the series.
- borsdy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really hope the dialogue will be as cheesy as it is in the game where snake just repeats everything he hears in a conversation but as a question.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Holy crap. Thats the funnies thing ive ever read on dig. MFSNAKES ON A PLANE
- Norante, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Eric Bana for Solid Snake!
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude Kurt Russel during the Captain Ron days would of been perfect...Im not to sure about now though.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He's retired from movies though.
- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That really is true. If he had a mullet, he'd be the spitting image of snake.
Plus he's already got a bit of the voice down since Sawyer always seems to have that gravely whisper going on. - Jacobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There you go!
I kind of hated him after Hulk, but he totally won me over with Munich. - darkdaedra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, the New York Times reported a month ago that Chan Wook Park, director of Oldboy, had met with Kojima about the possbility of directing the movie. I would be more excited to see Mr. Park directing the film than Kojima.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2(late to the party)
Why not David Hayter, the voice of Snake in the game?!
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0371684/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hayter
He even looks like snake, so why not? - m.sandstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sam jackson + solid snake = crazy delicious
- Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, and I think it's safe to say, that as of right now, this is going to be the best game movie yet (halo aside)! Ever since beating MGS2 I have thought that it would translate perfectly into a movie, I'm so glad they're making it into one, it will be very cool to see how this turns out.
- pgouy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bale would be great! He has the looks, voice and knows how to ACT.
But he's already Batman-material - and you can't have Joker on MGS :) - rfunches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stuff they put in (not on) Chinese food is monosodium glutamate, or MSG (not MGS).
The more you know™ - iamsam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love MGS. On to play Snake Eater now.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@lordsandwich No your not. Thats why that Uwe Bol can make crappy movies. Cus people just wanna see guns-ablazin and not have any coherant dialoge
- maxpower17@digg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://groups.msn.com/MetalGearSolidnet/mgmovie.msnw
