- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -3/+66As long as everyone isn't a frigin jedi this time... SW Galaxies anyone?
- Hochler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32@j4son: Umm... BioWare didn't do KOTOR2, that was Obsidian.
- j4son, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Nobody was a jedi when SWG first came out. After the NGE (New game enhancements), and the people who grinded away for months and months just to get another toon on their server got totally screwed. SOE decided to let everyone have 2 characters per server, and everyone could train as a jedi. They killed a halfway decent game....twice. The combat upgrade wasn't the greatest of ideas either, but not nearly as drastic of a change as the NGE IMO.
- minorthreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27more like... what girlfriend?
- theojanke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26KOTOR 2 wasn't made by BioWare. It was made by Obsidian Entertainment.
Edit: Beaten to it by Hochler. Wouldn't mind a delete comment option right about now... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26great, now i have to clean my underwear, thanks Bioware
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I would dip my balls in the sarlacc for this to be true.
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19please dont remind me of the great NGE disaster, 2 years grinding wasted cus of whiners. =(
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Forget real people, I like my internet friends...
- Xabora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Hopefully this will become EVERYTHING SWG should have been... and then some. ^_^

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/03/29 - falstaff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I resisted Everquest. I resisted WoW.
Between the rumored MMOs for Fallout, Firefly and KotOR, I fear I will soon break. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18"OH GOD YES.
YES.
***** YES."
Your girlfriend must feel wonderful about herself. - jakob187, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19A. Hopefully it isn't like Galaxies at all.
B. Hopefully it isn't as open-ended as Oblivion.
C. Hopefully there won't be a bunch of 9-year-old smacktards being jerks (*cough*WOW*cough*).
D. Hopefully Bioware doesn't screw up their track record with this one. - rustchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I'd MUCH prefer a KOTOR 3 to a KOTOR mmporg. Is it just me? I like a good story, not a big playground. This news actually saddened me a little.
- j4son, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Whoopsedaisy!
- jodokast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I actually would rather have a monthly fee that way there's less immature 12 year olds. Like in Guild Wars.
- Salius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11If this plays anything like KOTOR, (which will be difficult since KOTOR the option to pause in combat and put commands in your quere) it won't be as bad with everyone being a Jedi. What they shouldn't have is the advanced Jedi/Sith classes. It would really ruin the game if everyone was that strong. I say Sith because I assume you'll get to be evil like in KOTOR.
- Aliasing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I can guarantee this is not the case, or it may be a subsidiary studio within BioWare greater; because BioWare made a decision a while back to only develop their own IPs from thereon out, hence why they dropped all their Dungeons and Dragons and LucasArts licenses and gave them to Obsidian. If anything they'd develop a game within their Mass Effect universe.
- Lonecow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I hope it continues Reven's story and not a bunch of random quests.
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6oh but you are so wrong, we need a "good" MMO.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6See you in 5 years, after team turnover, publisher changes, then SOE swooping in and somehow snatching defeat from the jaws of victory (yeah, it's backwards with SOE).
- SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8KOTOR3?
Let them finish KOTOR 2 first -_- - Takfam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@jakob187
An MMO without 9 year old smacktards?
Okay, I want all of my games to run perfectly right out of the box with no patches needed. Also, I want Natalie Portman to have a twin sister that gets turned on by fat guys that play games and sit on Digg all day. Ooh! And Natalie Portwin has to have hypnosis powers so we can lure other hot chicks into three-ways.
I think my wish come true before yours does. - cosmicv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No doubt, if you cant afford to pay 50 cents a day for play -- then you need to get trained up on some new skills and get a better job. Thats not even half a tank of gas for me.
Compare this against the cost of normal Cable TV in "hours enjoyed/cost" and its an easy win unless your a couch potatoe still getting your TV from rabbit ears. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Just as long as this doesn't delay a new single player KOTOR game.
- PunchMeIBleed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i am in your same situation my friend, i will fall like a fly to the power of the force
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@jakob187
B) It's an MMO. There is no end.
C) Welcome to the internet. - eokthecow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@incubusnb
I thought KOTOR *was* D20 rules? 3.0 - Murfshay22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7yeah, sony killed SWG...
thankfully, swgemu has been working on a precu server :)
an MMO for KOTOR would be great! This should end a lot of social lives - gnawph2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think thats the problem. I wouldn't want to be anything else but a Jedi.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It is a known fact that Galaxies is being turned off early 2008.
Sony lost the lic. to run it. - zybir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Plus with a monthly fee keeps the game polished and if they have a steady source of income they can keep the servers up to date and produce more content. Well in theory anyway...
- zybir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4BioWare may not have developed the game but there name is on it, so I view that as at the very least partially responsible.
But either way the game was awesome and I'm looking forward to it. - fuzzmeister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you are willing to make a commitment, buy a long-term game card on eBay, and the price per month becomes pretty small. Whatever floats your boat, though.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Regarding Bioware's prior decision to no longer deal with licensed games, here is why that argument doesn't mean all that much. MMOs are a VERY big thing. LucasArts, and George Lucas specifically, took a chance with some developers who had big dreams and allowed them to make Star Wars Galaxies in the Original Trilogy timeline. This was all before WoW, as SWG would come out in June of 03. While the hype was as immense as any massive Star Wars release, once the game hit the problems facing a game which has no room to grow became apparent alongside the dev team's catering to the influx of paying subscribers.
During SWG beta, the devs owed nothing to anyone and because of this they made no compromises to game design. Although player cities were announced very early in the beta process, they weren't out for a long time after launch and looking back I would argue they may have been trying to scrap them for the reasons that eventually destroyed the economy. Once player demand became too much they threw half baked ideas like player cities on the servers and within 5 minutes the planetary map became unreadable, and the cities like Anchorhead that were once beautifully overcrowded party towns instantly became ghost towns as player cities took away every purpose for going to actual Star Wars cities.
SWG fell apart because it could never work. In the year and a half before WoW released it was able to survive as it was still the most recent, massive MMO and had no equal competition. But once the end of 04 came, SWG's inherent inability to progress the storyline became unavoidably despressing to many. Once the limits of the game and the fallout of bad decisions hit the community, the subscriber numbers went to hell. At that point it can be assumed is when SOE started grasping for new faces to "fix" the problem. The CU was an attempt to better match WoW's combat system, but in the end combat was the least of the game's problems. That's when they pulled out all the stops and essentially removed everything resembling the original game short of the textures to create a version of a Star Wars MMO that probably would have been the better first option, but which was too little too late and then only served to alienate the remaining players of old by dumbing down the game they had put so much time into. Star Wars Galaxies fell apart.
A STAR WARS franchise fell apart despite massive hype, and so it is not at all unlikely in my mind that George Lucas would push Lucasarts to redeem this tragedy, and considering the massive success of Knights of the Old Republic (and the odd and instant silence that came over future KOTOR projects after KOTOR 2's release) it is EXTREMELY likely that Lucasarts would turn to Bioware with loads of money to put its talent into making a Star Wars MMO that can actually work by being set in a timeline where anyone can logically be a Jedi. Normally rumors like this are too good to be true, but it makes so much sense on so many different levels given what I have seen of the original SWG that I can't give up on it like I usually would. Even if this is complete BS, it gives the community a clear vision of what a Star Wars MMO should be and thus the will to demand it.
On a somewhat related note, once I started coming to Digg I thought about writing an article on what all went wrong with SWG. There are very few original things I know a lot about, but I'm pretty sure I could make a damn good list on what the devs did with SWG that killed it bit by bit. This topic may get me to try that again. - lorductape, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5ill be damned if i see anyone in the game who's not a sith. it's so much more fun AND rewarding!
- SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No no, that's not how you do sarcasm on the internet.
...That was sarcasm, right? I mean, it has to be. - trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Aye brother.
Star Wars seems like it would lend itself to be such an awesome MMO. I think we're a few years away from a good Star Wars MMO right now. I second a notion for a KOTOR 3 (one with a good and complete plot line). - Arcwave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think I just exploded in my pants... ***** awesome!!! I know this will beat SWG ***** out of the water!
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@zybir
"Plus with a monthly fee keeps the game polished"
Obviously you've never played a MMO developed by Sony Online Entertainment. - danc4498, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like how they say "egm reports" like it wasn't in the rumor section of the magazine! And the fact that they linked to the completely unrelated Mass Effect story shows that CVG isn't a trusty source for news.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4wow is better than a game that is not even made yet?
how can you say something is better than something that does not even exist yet? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Modified D20 rules, you can't use D20 rules in a computer game directly, it would be a tedious game to play. Bioware Modified the D20 rules to work better for a CRPG, much the same way they did for Neverwinter Nights, but moreso.
- pscytzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think having starter classes (like Soldier, scoundrel, and medic (no idea on what else to say for that one)) would be a good idea, then you can get adv classes (Jedi Sentinel, Counselor, Sith, Bounty Hunter, fun things), but i don't like the idea of allowing people to drop the class at random and start up another tree. You pick your starter, then your adv, that's it.. and then they allow you to have a few more Toons on the server then just two, like WoW does.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They get pirated to hell and back. PC gamers must reap what they sow.
- KyotoWolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4KOTOR is perfect for an MMO...
Just dont include Manaan. - Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4OOOOH!
Man, I hope this is true. That would rock. KOTOR was better and more true to the star wars feel than any of the last three movies! - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wouldn't belive anything EGM says. "EGM: February; DMC4 will never ever come to xbox 360" next month DMC4 comes to 360!
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4what about Conan?
