- CLShortFuse, on 11/18/2007, -11/+86It's webcomic. It's a joke. Why do people take it all so seriously?
- xerus, on 11/18/2007, -4/+73It is the internet, and the internet is serious business.
- subwoffers, on 11/18/2007, -2/+64I never even knew about this "comic" until ubisoft spread it around with their law suit.

she is a public figure, and is up for parody.
Really it isn't so much personal against her as it is against her use in shilling the game.
didn't larry flynt already go to the supreme court for this kind of thing? - noobeffect, on 11/18/2007, -7/+51"How she was using her sex appeal to sell the game, to how UbiSoft was pimping her to sexually frustrated gamers to get them to buy the game."
Why are "gamers" complaining like this is new? G4 does it to get "gamers" to watch their programs and it completely works for them. - Extracheese, on 11/18/2007, -5/+43I'm sure nobody bought Assassin's creed because of Jade Raymond, but because it looked abolutely fantastic. Until recently I didnt even know how she looked, just the voice over for the game demos. Now though everyones talking about her...why? Yes, she is attractive...but that has what do with the game? Would more people have bought Hellgate london if she was the producer for that?
- comedianX, on 11/18/2007, -3/+38For those defending UbiSoft and Jade, I have two words for you: Amy Hennig. Hennig is a women in the games industry, producer of high profile games like Jak 3, Legacy of Kane and Uncharted. Yet, her company does not give hot photos of her to every site who'll post them. Why? Because Hennig happens to be kinda ugly.
That comic is a satire and a damn accurate one of the way UbiSoft promoted their hot producer to get press for their game. It may be offensive, but sometimes you have to go over the top with satire. - tehl3x, on 11/18/2007, -6/+37http://www.destructoid.com/elephant//ul/user/1/150 ...
- doctordbx, on 11/18/2007, -2/+33Ugh... an army of horny geeks will protect you Jade.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -1/+32don't they realize that buy threatening to sue they just cause more people to see it? yanking it from one site merely raises visibility ande causes it to be duplicated all over the web. Ubisoft fails at the internet.
- treedude, on 11/18/2007, -2/+32I like how they threaten to sue SA when it was simply posted in their forums. They didn't actually make it.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -11/+39http://www.destructoid.com/elephant//ul/user/1/150 ...
Is this it?? . kinda boring. - inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+23If only Ubisoft didnt sue and brought so much attention to it, the comic would've passed by harmlessly like all the other rule34's
- airiox, on 11/18/2007, -7/+29The article misses the point. People see a pretty girl that is associated with games and they will be included to click to read further. She may not sell games, but if you take a picture of say Gabe Newell when he was fairly unknown and attached to a game that hadn't yet received a huge following, people will tend to pass it by, "Huh, Some fat guy talking about 'Half Life'". But you take Jade's pretty face and female gender, attach her to a game that was relatively unknown and you will get instant buzz from gamers. They will see her pic on a blog and will be much more inclined to read further based on her face alone.
AC is an awesome game and deserves all the buzz its gets and would have probably garnished much of the same attention in the long run, but Ubisoft knew exactly what it was doing when it decided to put her out there as the front 'woman' for this game. Now with some digusting sap creating this revolting comic of her, Ubisoft has turned into the tough boyfriend character, trying to flex their muscles to show off. Trying to play the knight in shining armor, trying to impress her and gain some respect from her as well as others among the industry and without.
Are Ubi's threats justified, I would say yes and no. Yes, they have the right to protect Jane and their game. The comic used the logo of the game and it could be taken by some deluded fool that this was actually sponsored by Ubisoft. It also was probably the most revolting thing I have seen in a while. Seriously guys, she is human, she is an actual living breathing person, not just someone you see in youtube clips and blog postings. Unfortunately, places like Destructiod are run by a bunch of virginal, juvenile retards that have been drooling over Jane much longer than the few days this comic has surfaced. Ubisoft should have known that ***** like those that run D-toid exist and should have known taken measures earlier with action against D-toid and other sites if they didn't want things to devolve as far as they went.
Personally I hope Ubisoft Blacklists D-toid and never does an interview nor gives them advances release copies of their games ever again. - SaladCactusKing, on 11/18/2007, -9/+30The article is ridiculous. Jade Raymond is pure PR and comparing what she did to Gabe "Ate The Source Team" Newell is untrue and offensive to actual project leaders and/or morbid obese men.
- Coy0te, on 11/18/2007, -9/+30As an avid gamer the fact that this has even turned into an issue frustrates me to no end. I'm annoyed that I am even posting about an issue that is essentially about a woman with a prominent role in the development of a game. It appears that with all the media and talk of gaming becoming mainstream there's still a HUGE chunk of the gaming community that clearly have no interaction with women and don't know how to act in a civil manner when is comes to them.
- postitnote, on 11/18/2007, -1/+19Then play with my boobs.
- JasonCox, on 11/18/2007, -1/+19Wow, no Soviet Russia joke yet? I guess that guy's asleep.
- adraft, on 11/18/2007, -6/+23anyone got a link to the comic?
- Deodrus, on 11/18/2007, -12/+28I too am disgusted with some of the immature and indecent comments made towards Jade. However, I agree that Ubisoft was using her looks to try to get people more interested in the game. I also haven't seen anyone else except Jade presenting the game - which is sad.
Nevertheless, that comic did make me laugh. *feels a little guilty* - SaladCactusKing, on 11/18/2007, -2/+16Yuji Naka's a guy.
And Roberta Williams might as well be. She's scary lookin'. - HolyChimp, on 11/18/2007, -0/+14Where the ***** have you been?
- BassCadet, on 11/18/2007, -2/+16It's a slightly above average game, she's an attractive girl, I don't see how any of these things are extraordinary enough to care about.
- DavidGX, on 11/18/2007, -2/+14Guess what, Jade? You're a well known person. It's going to happen. It's the internet, rule 34 and all that jazz. Chances are, if you're well known there will, at some point be pictures of you, drawn photoshopped or otherwise, blowing someone or screwing an animal of some sort. And there's nothing you can do it about it. Obviously it's a comic, not real, not REALLY you. Anyone dumb enough to think that a comic = reality probably couldn't use a computer to see it in the first place.
If you can't laugh about it, then go hide under a rock for the rest of your life. This wouldn't be half the story it is if you hadn't released the hounds. Get the ***** over it. - stephant, on 11/18/2007, -5/+17You're the guy that goes to the strip club and tries to free the strippers of their bondage because they're good girls that deserve respect, aren't you?
- OverlordXenu, on 11/18/2007, -0/+12I would laugh. At them, and at myself.
- Zeonix, on 11/18/2007, -1/+13Looks more like a parody. No one is actually trying to say she went door to door to suck us all off.
- method3, on 11/18/2007, -0/+10Of course, the natural reasonable response to any kind of threatdown on teh internets? SUE THE BASTARDS. Anyone and everyone. That way no one will know that it ever happened. Evar. Seriously, disgusting and distasteful? On the internet? Someone grab me a gun so I may end the offender's life immediately for any and all immoral wrong-doing.
Retards sue every time at the slightest stupid *****. Freedom of speech protects the speech you hate, not just the speech you love. - danconia, on 11/18/2007, -2/+12I personally found it kinda boring. Nerd-drama. I like how the person who wrote the article cited posts made in the "comments" section like they are legitimate references or something. OMG no way somebody wrote something bad in the comments section of a website? Oh gosh better stick up for this girl.
And to the author: people won't buy the game because of her alone but they WILL watch an interview and then naturally be more likely to remember the game. - stephant, on 11/18/2007, -0/+10Yeah, I would have missed out on a rather mediocre comic that would have never made it without their help. They're kind of acting like jerks over a comic that is hardly worth remembering by anyone and now they've burned it into my brain. Nice job. Best lawyers ever!
- allisonaxe, on 11/18/2007, -1/+11dugg for calling yuji naka a girl. *giggles*
- acanaday, on 11/18/2007, -4/+14I work in game development, and there are usually MANY producers on a game. Producer can mean anything from "visionary" to simply "task scheduler". The way I see it - the only person who has a right to be talking about a game and giving the IMPRESSION it is their "baby" is the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, LEAD DESIGNER, or CREATIVE DIRECTOR. Ubisoft undoubtedly hand picked her from a few regular ol' producers to represent their game specifically because of her looks, and her background in television.
IMO, Ubi should have expected a backlash like this. The whole thing is rather insulting. They KNOW we are used to hearing from the true "creative forces" responsible for a game's development- and they tried to bill her as such. What a crock of *****. - Velnich, on 11/18/2007, -9/+17Fitting as it's an army of bitter sexually frustrated geeks that are attacking.
- allisonaxe, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8ok, it was amusing the first few times, but now its not: Yuji Naka's a dude. the female producer and character designer of Phantasy Star is named Reiko Kodama. Yuji Naka worked on the project: he created the graphics engine, and is better known for later in his career where he became the head of Sonic Team.
Reiko Kodama is also responsible for creating the popular Dreamcast/Gamecube RPG "Skies of Arcadia." - stephant, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7Being "in anger" and threatening to sue someone because they have legally damaged you is hardly the same thing (although I'm not sure anyone knows the difference anymore). I'm sure a lot of public figures are "in anger" about many things said about them but they don't go around threatening to sue everyone because they understand that using satire to criticize a public figure is perfectly legal in the United States. Sure the comic was in poor taste but that's exactly what somethingawful.com offers to those that like that kind of thing. You don't like it, don't view it.
- stephant, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7Explain to me how it is defamation please. Then explain how she was damaged. Was she fired from ubisoft? Is she unable to get another job? They thrust her into the public eye, make her a public figure then can't stand that people use satire to criticize her.
- DFENS, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8This is missing a very important point AGAIN - who gives a ***** who the producer of a game is if it's their first major effort and their game is repetitive, buggy, and simplistic.
And that is what Assassins Creed is. Who cares about some producer who's obviously got an unrealistic self-image as being 'above parody'. Instead, she should be happy people know her name. In all these comments people are referencing her alongside GABE for ***** sake. The mind behind one of the longest running and celebrating games and game engines. SHE IS NOT TALENTED ENOUGH TO WARRANT THIS PARODY. - inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7Check all of her interview pics and you decide ?

seems to me Ubisoft knew what they were doing
Yes shes hot but thats not the reason i'm buying the game tommorw !! - atomicpoet, on 11/18/2007, -3/+10Yes, it was tasteless, but it was also highlighting an important point: many gamers are talking about this game because of Jade Raymond's sex appeal. That's it.
- mtrip, on 11/18/2007, -4/+11Well, this is probably the worst site for this post to appear because the very people the editorial criticizes are the vast majority on Digg.
- Majorkerina, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7"It is well established that a person who commercially exploits the name or likeness of someone without their consent is liable for all of the damages caused thereby."
(from the original post)
Uh...since when did the drawing make any money?
And furthermore, I doubt that. Tabloids, satire works, etc... - chillypacman, on 11/18/2007, -4/+10While I'm all for the open developer mentality adopted by developers like valve where no one person has absoloute authority (or the person who does have authority rarely enforces it) produces/directors/designers are important in coordinating the development process.
When you have a development team of 90+ people you'll be bound to have people/people problems miscommunications or misunderstandings, missed deadlines, people calling in sick and other generel management issues + you need to do PR and all that. SO Jade Raymond is more than likely recquired to work and while she is the face of Aassassins Creed it hardly is because she does nothing, Gabe Newell is the face of Valve and he holds a similar position to Jade Raymond. Neither of them program but they both have comp-sci degrees and have proven to be effective at doing whatever it is they do. - werddrew, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6And they are well within their rights to blacklist d-toid. It's an unregulated relationship between businesses. But that doesn't necessarily mean they can sue the pants off anyone who reposts a silly webcomic...
- godzillaWax, on 11/18/2007, -3/+9Quick question: how many people can name off the top of their head the Producer of any other big game from this holiday? Probably just about no one. Other prominent video gamer makers --> CliffyB, Jaffe, whomever - they're all designers, not producers.
Ubisoft has gone out of their way to make the face of Assassin's Creed be Raymond's because they know fanboys will be mesmerized by her looks. That opens them up to completely fair criticism, which this comic pointed out very well.
People who call this comic "tasteless" and whatnot are completely missing the commentary the comic was making. - zeroEDGE, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6And you're absolutely right, I had no idea this webcomic existed till this digg article.
- Matt2k, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6I'm not sure. If a group of women made a comic depicting me eating a truckload of snatch.. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but I think I'd be OK with that.
- spudnic, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7Because she's female, and hot.
If it was a fat dude no one would have any sympathy. - chrispr, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6Since when is bukake disgusting? It's a beautiful, natural thing.
- wentwj, on 11/18/2007, -2/+8I love that people assume she was put in the role just because of her looks. You guys have NO idea why she was put in the role, or how much work she did on the game, and it's absolutely insulting to suggest that JUST because she's pretty then OBVIOUSLY she didn't deserve the position.
