- villainousT, on 08/18/2008, -6/+213The next level of porn loool
In all seriousness though, that's pretty flippin' awesome - dha07030, on 08/18/2008, -2/+174The specular face scared the ***** out of me.
- innovati, on 08/18/2008, -5/+150the mouth still has a way to go yet, but that is real progress, and the rendering of the eyes and hair were great, I liked the fact that there were stray hairs and it wasn't all perfect helped a lot. A little randomness goes a long way!
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+101This is why nerds have been working so hard on this.
- andypop481, on 08/18/2008, -5/+103"He said that AMD's new chip - the Radeon HD 4870 X2 - was able to process 2.4 teraflops of information per second, meaning it had a capability similar to a computer that - only 12 years ago - would have filled a room. AMD's chip fits inside a standard PC. "
So Cool. - omenmedia, on 08/18/2008, -1/+82Yeah they need to turn down the realism a notch.
- MatthewK, on 08/18/2008, -1/+74This reminds me of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie called "The Running Man." In that movie they can create videos that look completely realistic, and there is a scene where they computer-generated Arnold getting killed even though he didn't really die.
Here's another amazing thing, it's like a picture being "photoshopped" except it's for video instead: http://grail.cs.washington.edu/projects/videoenhan ...
Photoshopped pictures in photojournalism are already an issue. Faked video will be the next generation... - wazzledoozle2, on 08/18/2008, -0/+61Longer, higher quality video of emily-

- USER1236, on 08/19/2008, -1/+46I'd hit it....
- EvanVolm, on 08/18/2008, -1/+41What is it the makes eyes so damn hard to make? Overall it's pretty awesome, and was impressed by pretty much everything other than the eyes.
- LeeSoong, on 08/18/2008, -1/+41Humans obsolete in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .
- CATSCEO2, on 08/18/2008, -0/+38Why don't you have a seat over there...
- sneezy555, on 08/18/2008, -0/+37DOUCHE!
- jedinate, on 08/18/2008, -0/+34The blinking helps a lot. In general, cgi characters don't blink often enough.
- mandrakeRaptor, on 08/18/2008, -7/+38S1m0ne?
- BugMeNot2, on 08/18/2008, -23/+54I can still tell it's fake.
We're getting closer to photo- and video-realism, though. - ineptsavant, on 08/18/2008, -1/+29I dugg you up and buried the person who called you a *****. Something isn't right with the teeth and anything that is near white color and moving. It's the closest I've ever seen, but if I watched it and wasn't told it was fake I would think there was some sort of really bad filter applied to it, or that my media player was having problems with it. It's damned close, but not perfect.
- apothekari, on 08/18/2008, -3/+30"More human than Human"
- dsoldier, on 08/18/2008, -0/+24That's exactly what I was thinking as I watched. Everything else is almost perfect, but the mouth just seemed a bit off. The way she went from a smile to straight-faced/slight frown looked unnatural.
But still f'ing incredible. - bullioncube, on 08/19/2008, -0/+24Youtube is ***** that way -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
- chrgrose, on 08/18/2008, -1/+23looks amazing, but its tough to say considering the video is so god damned small. Show me that video in HD and maybe then I'd be blown away. The fluidity of the movement is clearly fantastic, however.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -4/+25The next level of porn! IN ALL SERIOUSNESS!! ANYONE GOT A CAD OF ALIZEE???
- briankoenig03, on 08/18/2008, -0/+21Did The Times Online get "sponsored" to write this article? The entire page reads like an ad.
- peligro666, on 08/18/2008, -1/+22Ummm, holy *****! Can't wait for HL3!!!!
- adinb, on 08/18/2008, -3/+22is it just me or are the lips *really* off? I guess it could be the blockiness of the video or the motioncap, but they just felt off. The eyes didn't bother me as much...
- Thater, on 08/19/2008, -0/+19Yes actually. Sexual depictions of children are illegal. Even lolicon is technically illegal in North America.
/serious - synystar, on 08/18/2008, -4/+21"AMD's new chip - the Radeon HD 4870 X2......"
It's not really a new chip. They put two HD 4870s on the same card. - venuspcs, on 08/18/2008, -5/+22I wonder if watching computer generated images of 13 year old girls masturbating with enormous animated ***** will become illegal now?????????
/just wondering!!!!!!!! - NegativeDigg, on 08/19/2008, -2/+18Can't they just say it's animated porn of a 18 year old? How can the prove age?
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -1/+16And I hate cgi hair usually. It's always waving, just to show that the technology lets minute little details like waving hair happen, even when there's no wind.
- bobartig, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15If you see the longer version of this video (some guy linked to it below: http://www.awntv.com/videos/image-metrics-emily-pr ... you can see that the hair and outfit and everything is live video. Their technology places a face model over the face of the individual. In this case, the actress was driving a mask that was pretty similar to her own. At the very end, you can see a few seconds of real video of her face.
So you might use this with a stuntman/body double performing incredible/naked feats while the actual actor drives a face grafted onto the replacement's performance. - slugicide, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15We'll never be obsolete--"we'll make great pets."
- choopie911, on 08/18/2008, -0/+14holy crap that is awesome
- Velocity14, on 08/19/2008, -1/+15...but... you can't.

- donkz, on 08/19/2008, -0/+12news title gave it away for me...
You can tell it's a gfx... it's simply not as sharp in corves, movements, eyes... and what's whith that scewed mouth?? - Mandegar0, on 08/18/2008, -0/+12easy now, one advancement in technology at a time.
Maybe one day in the future our great great grand kids can come to us and tell us how great it is to be able to run Crysis. - gcnaddict, on 08/18/2008, -14/+26Well yeah, it was kinda obvious when it changed her face to a wireframe. Regardless, congrats on being a troll.
- MrSidnet, on 08/19/2008, -0/+12Aaaand blocked! =)
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -4/+16Man that's amazing.
The way her eyes moved around as if she was looking at people, the hair moving, the basic human nervous system reacting to a real interview. Impressive. Although I've seen this before in believe it or not....Timesplitters Future Perfect. Although they don't look real, the actions they do are pretty damn good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld9uE8ZB7m4&feature ... One of my favourite scenes. - BugMeNot2, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12The movement of the face gave it away for me.
- phrenzy, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11exactly. call me when they have a 4 way split screen with asian, black, hispanic and white emily at the same time.
then make them ***** eachother. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12Sh1t M0v1e
- DyceFreak, on 08/18/2008, -2/+13thats true, nVidia's 280 is actually faster. but Crossfire is much more implementable than SLI, with a lot less restrictions, and better load balancing. So the 4870x2 is a far faster card.
- omenmedia, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12I shat bricks.
- Ramble, on 08/18/2008, -1/+11Mass Effect animation is good as well, looks realistic.
- phrenzy, on 08/18/2008, -2/+11The modeling is impressive, but, still, they got out of the uncanny valley by simply "tracing" over video of a human being. Why not just use the person in the first place? Also, she says the animation can control "any facial rig" - Yet, they only show hers with some different shaders on it. I'd like to see the exact same sequence shown with the exact same data with a totally different person. I bet if they tried to do that they'd be right back in the valley.
- twmulloy, on 08/18/2008, -1/+10FAKE. i guess that makes it real?
