- nonesupplied, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I always went for the "carefully pull the stickers off and put them back on correctly" method.
- Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Easily, yeah, my ass, the video is 9 minutes long
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I'm digging this so I don't forget about it when I get a rubiks cube
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Hes already confused me 30 seconds into it.

corners-first or Ortega's is easier and faster IMO. It's easy to move edges around without disturbing the corners, but not vice-versa; Ortega's method takes advantage of this. You can use corners-first with a minimum of about 3 memorized algorithms/sequences (5-6 steps apiece). - UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My head hurts more now than a rubix cube alone could ever cause.
I'm sticking with the "pull the stickers off and re-apply them" method. Now THAT is an easy way to solve it. - Zzyw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@plncrzy
Lots of people can. Back when it was popular I could do it in about three minutes and I'm pretty clumsy. You just have to know between 5 and 10 sequences and how to apply them. - sporkmonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4rootneg2 is correct. I used to use a similar method to what's shown in the video, and I think my best time was around 5 minutes doing it that way. I eventually switched to a very simple corners-first method that uses two algorithms of about 6-8 steps apiece and one algorithm that's 3 steps. My current record with the corners-first technique is 1:29 on an unmodified cube. It's also much, much easier to explain with diagrams than with a video or even showing someone in person. Diagrams are definitely the way to learn to solve the cube.
- stimpy2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahh! It still hurts my head!
- maf54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The 7-step solution guide that comes with every Rubik's cube is about 75 times easier to understand.
- austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I still would not call that easy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah this wasnt easy
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Let's see if I got this right. It's counter-clockwise, clockwise, clockwise, counter-clockwise, clockwise, counter-clockwise, counter-clockwise, clockwise, counter-clockwise, clockwise, clockwise.
Yup, worked like a charm. - Elfman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All I heard was "quickly walk you through the steps" and then I heard nothing but white noise for about 9 minutes.
- chojin42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4pinczy: I can, I do 45sec average, and I'm considered _very_ slow by the community.
Check http://www.worldcubeassociation.org/results/index.php for the world record times/ranking.
world record is 11.76s _average_.
10.48 for a single solve.
And on the amazing side (if these times were not already amazing)... 17.90 _one handed_.

Enjoy :) - hypnotoad32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Knife and sticker methods take too long :)
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You gotta be kidding me.. that was ridiculous. It's one thing to know how to do something, but it's another thing to be able to explain yourself simply.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now i'll be able to woo the hotties at the next party i go to!
- Ibanezfoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I usually just peel the stickers off and put them back where they go. Works every time.
- wssharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1put your main finger on the left side and your other finger on the other side and Turn it
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you really want to learn to solve the cube (something this video fails to help with), I recommend this page, it has some very good diagrams and applets to make every step clear:
http://rubikscube.info/cf-beginner.html - themarq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I preferred the "pry the sunuvabitch open with a table knife and reassemble it method." But I think it amounts to the same thing.
- ike368, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my roommate does this SO quickly. he and his cousin just figured it out over a week during winter break.
i think it's pretty cool - BillGod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would have helped if he would have edited out all the screw ups. Turn top side clock wise right side clockwise left side counter clockwise top side clockwise.. oh wait.. reverse that. WHAT? i guess you could always rewind and replay then pause the whole thing... I agree with nonesupplies.. pull the damn stickers off.
- TopBanana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why's he saying clockwise and counter-clockwise on the faces perpendicular to him? Clocks don't move in that plane. Confusing.
- ericduh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'easily'? really?
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what he said doesn't make any sense to me my head is hurting from instruction overload.
- timo1023, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't watch the video because it looked really boring. A booklet is a much better tool for solving the cube. I can solve one in 60 seconds flat, and that really isn't an impressive time in the speedcubing world.
- guyperson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.cube172.com
I got my time down to 25-35 seconds in about a few months. Once you learn the basic algorithms it's easy. - sporkmonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Caleb83:
Isn't that what http://del.icio.us/ and http://ma.gnolia.com/ are for? - resplence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great to see that this is not on slow and crowded metacafe and the guy is not making a penny out of it.
- shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now, I am definitely not bashing this guy for his achievements, he is obviously MUCH better at Rubik's cubes than I am, but please, if you're going to post a tutorial, why would you not edit your mistakes out of the video? Especially when there's already large gaps of silent blackness that you could start over at? I find Rubik's cubes confusing enough without having "clockwise - oh I mean counterclockwise" "counterclockwise - oh I mean clockwise" "er I forgot a step, let me go back" etc. I know I shouldn't be so worked up over a YouTube video, but, c'mon now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yah, just use del.icio.us ; i'm not the only one who's tagged it there either.
Just another plug for corners-first: I have 4 5-10 move squences memorized and then 5 2-3 move sequences "memorized" that I currently use. I don't really have a set algorithm, and i tend to use a mashup of a few methods; but I always do corners first. As is with my current repitiore of sequences i can get it under 2 minutes consistantly, at least enough to bet on :o) I think i probably average about 1:30-ish but i don't really bother timing usually.
I'm definately no professional speedcuber, so I can't speak to it's use there; but I think it definately has potential for it.
There is yet another method that I know is used by some speedcubers which build from a single corner (first a 2x2x2 block, then 2x2x3, etc.); I haven't tried it yet, so it might end up being even better. - NavySEAL6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nicee, gotta try this out lol
- Caleb83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm commenting so I can keep track of this thread, and more importantly, the website rootneg2 posted, without having to digg this vid.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1word.
definitely the best rubik's page out there.
Although I prefer a mix of Ortega and beginners:
Ortega for corners (minus a few sequences. only the PI for the second phase, and 0, 1, 2 for the third phase); beginners method for edges. The instructions for solving the corners in the beginners method confuse me... - UKMusicFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah he's not very clear. Just get a book and a cube and practice, that's how I learnt how to solve it.
- Zedizdead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just took the damn thing apart, then put it back together the correct way. Solved!
- chowderdick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i was hoping he would give up and take it apart.. that's what i always did
- sporkmonger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seriously, in the time it takes you to take the stickers all off carefully and put them back on, I can solve the cube twice. And it didn't take me that long to learn how to do it that fast either. Probably 20-30 minutes of looking at diagrams and playing with the cube one Christmas.
- scjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Enough with the rubik's cube *****
- sk19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The moves aren't really that difficult to do... there's only a few, and you can learn them easily enough just through repetition. But I agree that this video is insane. I know how to solve it, by his method, and I still couldn't follow his moves. There are better sites to go to that have the moves written down. If you can memorize that, you can solve the cube.
- jetlag2007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can do the cube easily.
- carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@maf54
Uh, dude, this IS the solution in the booklet. - joach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Confession: I digged it but only watched a minute!
- hitaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the solution booklet.. but shown from the opposite side. He is trying to show what to do by saying clockwise counterclockwise clockwise clockwise like he's doing something while not actually showing us the piece he's trying to solve. (I do the booklet method in about a minute and thirty seconds easily.)
- crossers, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0I haven't any problems with Rubik's Cube. it's easy for me!
