- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46It's in freaking ALPHA development stage. Did you ever see Halo 2 in that stage ? It looked pathetic and right now they don't care about graphics.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -9/+43Halo 3 gets a physics engine. So innovative! :|
- Polymira, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35yournamehere - GoW isn't a FPS....
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Bungie has already stated that they won't be going for the "hyper-realistic" look of GoW, and instead going for a simpler approach and instead focusing on other areas of the game (like multiplayer, which GoW's is lacking).
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17God dammit I think every current gen FPS should have destructible environments. I remember one of my favorite multiplayer shooters to play with my friends, Red Faction, had fully destructible terrain. it was just so satisfying blowing a chunk of ground out from underneath another player's feet with a rocket launcher or tunneling through a wall into another portion of the map.
- iPirate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I wish I knew why the person that is calling others idiots always uses "your" instead of "you're" on Digg,
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Agret: You are wrong, multiplayer Red Faction games did have destructible terrain (GeoMod).
Did you actually ever play Red Faction multiplayer? - Scynet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15He was being sarcastic.
- KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15When was there any bad news about Halo 3?
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Things I would therefore like to see in Halo 3:
Windows Vista Computer Lab
Yugo Car Plant
A Dollar Store - sammysnake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Didn't Doom 1 have exploding barrels?
- alx242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Well I guess you missed out on Red Faction or even Red Faction 2
- ungus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Honestly, Halo 2 was never very impressive.
Before you click that thumbs down, hear me out with an open mind.
Halo 2 did not have very many improvements on the original Halo. Multiple weapons and graphics upgrades limited to glowing spectral effects are hardly major breakthroughs. It was good advertising and good reputation that convinced the masses it was something special. Sorry guys, but if you really think about it, it was no big deal. In fact, it should've been a disappointment to everyone.
I'm hoping that, because this is on better hardware, Bungie will do some serious improving. - alx242, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8But it was still fun...:)
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah a friend and I would bow the ***** out of the multi player sniper level (for strategy) then once done we would snipe each other for hours! Red Faction FTW! the sequel sucked balls though.
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah, cripes. UT 07 is going to have a completely destructible, geo-mod world. Many other games will follow suit. Partially destructible environments is so 2006.
- einarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Destructibles in games are definitely not a new thing, but of course it can be done differently or with more details than before... or with another twist. New games usually never contain anything extremely revolutionary, but a few small elements that makes them different from others. (Small things can indeed have a huge impact on gameplay).
The game industry (especially the large companies) love to create hypes and spread vague information so people can fill out the gaps with their own fantasy and what suites them best creating even more rumors and hypes. You just have to wait for the game to come out to know anything for sure. :-) - yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ahh, crap..you're right
at least digg me up for using "you're" correctly - Jakerius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Two words: Hell yeah
- dodgyd55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2:( no screens
- baddog121390, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you have to say its for the wii to get dugg up
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Half Life 2 doesn't really have destructible environments, more like smaller objects within the environment.
Speaking of Half Life 2 can you imagine how fun it would be to rip out a section of wall with the gravity gun? - mysticalone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait for the Red VS Blue episodes on Halo 3, I'm sure they'll make the destructible environment funny somehow..
- sharpless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just to echo what some others have said, anyone who judges Halo 3 right now from what they've seen (both screenshots and video) so far - you're an absolute idiot. Bungie has explicitly, CLEARLY stated that everything that's been released has been without most of the bells and whistles. The game is still in alpha and, thus, still probably looks nothing like it will when it hits the store shelves. I say that not as a fanboy (though I certainly am one) but as someone who actually likes to use his brain when making judgments of things.
All done. Commence with the digging down. ;) Oh, and this is awesome news. I've been hoping for more destructible objects, shooting down trees and the like. - Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does anyone else notice he's talking about the decorators being destructible, not the environment? Decorators at the little patches of grass that stick out of the ground, instead of just the flat grass texture. The decorators are destructible, NOT the level geometry. Seriously, let's not get something like this all blown out of proportion because of a misunderstanding. Basically grass and shrubbery can be destroyed, not the actual ground. At least from what they have told us so far, who know,s everything MAY be destructible, but don't hold your breath until you actually see/play the finished game yourself.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe they'll also incorporate Crossplay© as well...
- Hitman101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn this sounds nice!
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@estvir
Alpha? LOL
Yeah they're in Alpha testing while they're releasing **BETA** versions of the game for people to try. - hungryduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This information just killed me a little inside. Because Halo 3 is not out yet
- Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Grunts... talking about coding... that was unbelievably weird.
- marcomc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FINALLY. get some cool ass red faction Geo mod ***** in there, please.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If sarcasm was born inside the tubes, everyone on Digg will be blocked from entering the home page. No wait..
Anyways, I have played RF (crap), but if the answer to my 'next-gen and same tech' comment is still one game with destrucible walls (no, FEAR and similar games doesn't count).. well, most walls that felt 'realistic', then DAMN! - Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually company of heros had really good destructable enviorments, even though it was an rts.
- iZen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, destructable props are already within Halo 2. Go look at some of the multiplayer maps that have benches, hanging lamps, and sci-fi barrels and shoot them up. They may have some new animations for larger environment pieces like rock overhangs or walkways in Halo 3 but that will be about it (I doubt they will be any better then Gears's Sofa and Chair animations). Its nothing to get excited over. They are going to have to do a lot more to win fans over again if they want to compete with the big next gen games like Gears, Vegas, and Crysis. I am excited about Halo 3 but its for other reasons not this "crap" article for all the fan boys to slober over.
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1halo 2 was suppose to have this early on in the development - but cut it saying that they couldn't do it with the limited system resources on the xbox... >_> which is bull *****, red faction had it years before on the PS2
they cut out a ton of things from halo 2 just because it was a rushed job, the ATV, the human flying vehicle. the variations of the warthog, create your own avatar, etc. etc.
people loved it, they'll love this one... but don't get high hopes for anything you see now, may be gone and then you'll have to wait for it on halo 4 >_<
RED FACTION FTW ... I'm gonna go play it now ^_^ - Zygoga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i agree
- xposedbones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2that's notting innovative, in fact, Red faction 1 got FULLY DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONMENT, go download the demo and you'll see, you can even dig a tunnel your rocket laucher and camp in it... anyways
RED FACTION FTW!!!!!! - ShadowMarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2About damn time. I was disappointed after all the "fully destructible" talk before Halo 2.
- nycterent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how can you even imagine comparing doom with something else?
- ungivenglory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree with everyone, Red Faction was an INCREDIBLE game for its time. I actually recently went back to play it, and it is still a blast. Quite honestly I'm surprised that no other game has REALLY taken advantage of a fully destructible environment such as the geomod engine.
Note : Does anyone remember the level "Piracy" from Duke Nukem 64? I modeled that level in the RED editor and just happened to find it on an old hard drive when cleaning systems, totally going to dedicate a server. - Jemulov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Didn't the makers of Red Faction have some sort of patent or copyright on destructible terrain? I heard it from someone but wasn't sure if it was true or not. If so then that may explain why we haven't seen it since Red Faction came out.
- cheesehead4life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amen to that halo is the best FPS RPG game on the market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- GSNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for a funny side note listen to the voice clip at the bottom of the page. :P
- Silt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The mother of all console games is getting destructible enviorments? Well, hello, and welcome to PC gaming.....................10 years ago.
- JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2They said this about Halo 2 as well, and we got a few walls that would look a little damaged after shooting at them for a minute, and some barrels.
Halo 2 has good multiplayer, but there's nothing cutting-edge about anything they do. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1wow. so it'll be just like Half-life II.
- TwilightThorn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@ ungus,
You say halo 2 didnt have any improvements of halo? How about the one that keeps people playing the game nonstop ever since it came out--xbox live. I dont believe halo 1 was xbox live compatible. Sure, it was probably because xbox live wasnt out yet, but it is still a massive improvement. You need to think before you go around ranting about games. - cheesehead4life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0well to consider gears of war too i think they r tied at 10/10
- cheesehead4life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0watc ur F*** language
- cheesehead4life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0WHAT ?!? HOW CAN U LIKE PC games?!?!?!?!?
