- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36For those about to wirelessly rock, we salute you.
- Kev1000000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26That had no specifcs on the new controller, downloadable content, or of it was the original game or the sequel. So really, you fail.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I hate Guitar Hero, not because the game is bad or anything.
I hate it because I work at the Digital Imaging Department at Best Buy, and the Guitar Hero kiosk is no more than 10 feet away from me.
Sorry, but after listening to "Take me out" 35 times a day, often played horribly ***** by some kids, it drives you nuts.
Like I said, before I get dugg down, I've listened to nothing but guitar hero being played for 8 hours a day since it's been out. - ltuspud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Hell Yea!!!!
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Downloadable songs for GH2 is just about enough to get me to buy a 360.
That might sound a tad crazy, but (ignoring all the other extras which are bound to be downloadable), it means that a new set of songs every month or so is really possible.
That's worth it's weight in gold as GH is the most enjoyable game I've played in years. - ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Micro transactions are all well and good as long as nothing is taken away from the full game.
If GH2 comes with as many songs as it's forbearer, and then there's downloadable songs on top of that, bingo bango bongo, Microsoft, RedOctane and Harmonix will have made me a happy man, and one willing to fork out a couple of quid for a new song once in a while. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"We believe there is no better title to feature micro-transactions than a music game."
Mark my words: This new greedy trend of incorporating "micro-transactions" and expensive "episodic content" into future games will severely hurt the gaming industry. The companies may see increasing profits, but I promise you, there are many people there like me who will purposely avoid titles that force you to pay extra for additional content (and which ship with very LITTLE content on the $50 disc itself, like the upcoming Gran Turismo). - westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Um...actually, Sony's doing just that with one of the upcoming GT games...
- Kev1000000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Here is an image of the new guitar...
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/735/735722p1.html - utch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10The site is really slow right now but Check out http://louhi.kempele.fi/~skyostil/uv/fretsonfire/ which is frets on fire. Guitar hero for PC. Dell keyboards with no top border are the best for this game!!!
- Disease, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10You just suck at it ^__^
- bushawa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It is going to be the same one as previous, except it is now red (http://www.ebgames.com/common/images/lbox/281550b.jpg). The old controllers will work with the new game as well.
- westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@skyshock21
Actually, the game features actual Gibson guitars that you can buy with the proceeds from your shows. I assume RedOctane has something worked out with them for both the controller shapes and the in-game guitars.
I also assume more guitars will be among the downloadable content on the Marketplace. - westwind429, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Damnit. The Marketplace functionality looks like it's going to rock. I'd buy a PS2 hard drive to store new songs.
To me the "console war" is all about the games. Between the new RPGs and this, a 360 is looking a lot nicer... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You have to drink several beers before starting. Then finish 1 beer per every 2 songs, playing your way down the list. By the end your rocking so hard you will have a difficult time hitting the notes right. :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Then you must think GTA or NFS is lame too. Get a real lamborghini and crash it into the wall at 200mph, get a real gun and kill people. It's a lot more fun! Pressing buttons like a gas peddle or gun trigger is for little kids too I suppose.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's not necessarily a bad thing. I *wish* I could buy more songs for GH1.
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't think it looks even half as good as the SG, it reminds me of that dodgy third party controller that was released for GH a while back.
Hopefully the difference will be purely aesthetic though. - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14Now it just needs to be released on the Wii.....
- chokeslam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3LOL, great idea dude! Turn Guitar Hero into a drinking game. Sounds like fun to me :D
- gamerage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3GH 1 never gets a break at the studio I work at and it has been that way since it came out. Other consoles are gathering dust while we struggle to keep the guitars clean.
To all the doubters, please try it again without the anger. You get an actual rocking feeling with so little effort. Then get your girlfriend to try more than a feeling duet with you. Your love will deepen. - hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3im thinking the article just based that fact off the picture and maybe the picture just didnt include a wire in it or its hiding behind the guitar or thats a prototype without. *shrug*
- nklnch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can explain the appeal.
Learning a real musical instrument is much more rewarding but it's hard. Really hard. This game gives you the excitement of playing guitar while being very accessible.
This doesn't help you play an instrument at all (maybe a *little* with finger dexterity and timing), but I bet it inspires some people to practice with real instruments. And it makes for a really good party game. - benbjamin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3actually this kind of pushes my buttons.
I have both a 360 and a ps2. I've already pre-BOUGHT (not just put down a deposit-- fully paid for) GH2. And we might be able to download new songs w/ the 360 version?
*#*@*$*%*
where can I trade in my old guitars? I think EBgames might give me my money back w/ the prebuy - Kev1000000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You do realize that there are a ton of reputable sites that say the same thing right? (ign, gamespot)
- CarbonEclectic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sure they're going to release the game with the same near 60 track list as the PS2 version. I'd be more than happy to spend up to 2 dollars per song in a microtransaction. People shouldn't complain about the cost additional content because its content that isn't required to enjoy the game. It's OPTIONAL. If you want to be a cheapskate, don't get the additional content.
- ltuspud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gran Turismo HD already is doing that. That's why Sony fails. GH2 will release with songs, but micro transactions will just be for more songs down the road.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I thought the exact same thing -- "Damn! I may have to drop a few hundred bucks on a 360!"
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sell it on ebay. Gamestop and EB are giving ***** trade-ins on GH1. One store quoted me $10, IF I promised them the guitar. I got $55 for it on eBay. Now, they just need to annouce it for Wii, and all shall be right with the world...
Ommmm.... - n0friends, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you can get your money back, i just wonder when its really going to come out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Have you never had the thought cross your mind that there are actually people who play guitar AND enjoy the game? Like you said yourself, "its not even anything like playing a real guitar"; it requires a different type of skill that some people also find fun to master.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can empathize with you. I worked at a computer store that had Top Gun playing on a media station. Over and over, all day, every day, for 8 hours. I've hated that movie since!
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That would be me playing the thing way too much less than 10 feet from the digital imaging booth. Love ya man, and once GH2 comes out I'll be able to play Freebird horribly right beside ya! WOO!!!!!!!!
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hold on, wireless?!
Rock on! - o2sk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The new red one is a matte red, the old Cherry Red was more shiny.
- tjdoom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Haha, it's shapped just like an Explorer.
- vincenzo7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First time i dugg a story with a mispelled headline....nice
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@skyshock21 - They're sponsored by Gibson, they have the rights/permission to use their guitars/designs. :)
- hellalazy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2so GH2 is set to release on Nov 7, 2006. for the ps2. i hope....no i PRAY...naw i WISH that GH2 for the 360 follows suit and releases the same day.
- CheezeMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to me it looks like your lower arm would hit the d-pad when you're trying to "strum".
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Here's hoping for the possibility that if GH3 is released for 360 (I think they already announced there are going to be numerous more games in the series, yes?) that I can transfer my downloaded/purchased songs to the new game. That way instead of having 300+ songs spread across multiple games I can just pop in whatever disc I want and play the games.
That'd be sweet. - c0dy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best news in a long time. Think about the possibilities... Guitar Hero matches over Live? Count me in!
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No I don't think GTA or NFS is lame. Just hook your real guitar up to your pc or mac with guitar rig and play away with any song you want! Much more fun than spinning something and pressing colored buttons!
- spiffyfitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@utch: i don't know why you're getting dugg down, frets on fire is new to me and i just downloaded it... it seems awesome!
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I always wanted to get into Guitar Hero 1, I can't wait!
- Archiman86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am DEFINATELY buying a 360 JUST for this game, Already pre-ordered it for PS2 but the possibilities with the downloadable content are gonna be simply amazing!
- cainrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish they would make it possible to use the GH1 guitar from PS2 with a USB adapter.
NOW i have to work in a new guitar for 360.
So come on USB adapter. - Laser1234543, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nah, wouldnt be able to do it justice.
- JustinTX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Could anyone explain the appeal of this game to someone who has devoted much of the last decade of his life to actually playing a real guitar?
Maybe this game isn't aimed at people like me (or maybe I just don't understand the game) but I have to admit that my initial reaction to even the concept of this game was rather negative.
Personally, I've come to value music education. I'm not, nor am I likely ever to be a professional musician. Having said that however, learning to play an instrument has had a hugely positive impact on my life. Looking at the controller the other day it was apparent to me that all of the important aspects of actually making music were left to the console microprocessor and the code of the software. It just seems to me that for the price of the console, the game/controller, and now downloads it would be better to go grab a cheap acoustic (Yamaha actually makes playable acoustic guitars for not a lot of money) and actually learn to play.
...on the other hand I am currently lusting after a $3600 PRS and a $3200 all tube stack and have already spent untold thousands on several guitars and related gear. -
